will there ever be a gradius VI?
the question has been bugging me since the release of five, even more so when i learned that its been on hold indefinitely.
just what is konami thinking? whats the difference between indefinite hold and canceled. just look at R-Type, at least Irem had the guts to make one final game, and we get to play it. what is konami doing? they doodle dwaddle and give us a "indefinite hold", if they're not going to make another one and want to end it there, just tell us. don't wait a few more years and tell us its canceled.
what do you guys think? did it end at five? or are they still planning to keep going. im surprised they didn't call it "gradius final" if it ended at five.

Yeah. Quality takes its time. I am glad they are doing gamers favours like Castlevania Dracula X Chronicles, including two of the best Castlevanias EVER as a mere bonus. Man, what a fanservice.cody wrote:I'd rather have an indefinite hold than a Gradius VI as bad as r-type final.
If we get a Gradius as great as V every five years that´s fine by me. Would you rather have them milk the franchise dry? Doing games like this takes its time, and considering it´s a niche genre, we should be thankful for every new shmup that comes out, let alone one of such a high quality. Gamers are quick to make demands.

the real question you should ask konami is: why did you make 256 loop in the first place" heck 100 seems a little too crazy. who can leave their PS2 on all week or longer, playing nonstop? (even the biggest shooter fan with a bit of self-preservation instinct wouldn't try) the disk would be so hot it would melt, the system would overheat tremendously, and a hefty electrical bill to boot. (do i need to remind you of your health?)elfhentaifan wrote:i cant imagine of another gradius part.
V already owned everyone, because its impossible to reach even max difficulty.
How much loops do you want.
arent 256 enough?
i want to see another gradius because five really didn't explain much. the final boss, who calls itself vendom, says its only a small part of the whole. So that means somewhere out there is still the source, and don't you need to take that out to end the whole thing once and for all (like they did in R-type final) there is got to be another, rather there Must be one. five is incomplete, period.

you're right, i guess i was a bit too quick, these things takes time, and thinking back, five was done not too long ago.FrederikJurk wrote:Yeah. Quality takes its time. i guess what got me in this situation was how konami used the word "indefinite". to me it just seems a bit too strong. if they said it was on hold i would been ok, cause i know they'll still work on it. but you add this "indefinite", it becomes who knows when. worse yet if they announce to cancel it after waiting for a long time (where if they did it with just hold at least i prepared for it)
about milking the franchise dry, is that what happened to R-Type? they rushed their developement, and ran out of ideas, decided to come up with Final and just call it a stop? everything must end, and gradius is no exception, while i don't want them to rush and develope a bad one, i certainly do like to see them make another.
In the worse case, even if the gameplay turns out to be bad, i still want to see the story end properly.

Maybe Schatten doesn´t like that Treasure put too much of their own handwriting into the game. It still is a Gradius game, but plays pretty different from the original Konami games (Gradius Gaiden with it´s "power up bar"-editing aside). It certainly is a lot less forgiving than the older games, thanks to option recover and all kinds of new option tricks. Many like this game because of this.VicViper_Mk2 wrote:why is that? please explain.
Having played all of them thanks to the PSP collection, I prefer I, II and Gaiden over III and IV. III was just absurdly hard, with a long, tedious bubble stage and not much to look forward after that in general, and IV is just bone-ugly. Gradius I still is a lot of fun today, and II really is good stuff, especially the music. Gaiden is a bit softer, with very varying ships and is the best of the series so far IMHO.

And that's why as soon as you defeat him the game starts over. You are going out, again, to defeat another "piece" of the enemy. They will never be completely defeated (unless you beat them 256 times, I guess.) The point of the game is that Gradius goes on forever, the battle never ends. And why would you want it to? Nobody plays these games because they need closure, they play them to have fun.want to see another gradius because five really didn't explain much. the final boss, who calls itself vendom, says its only a small part of the whole. well most people don't really care about the story of shooters, i however is an exception. i don't care how crappy the story is, i still want it to finish.
playing another loop to fight another "piece" of the boss, while it can be interpreted this way, there is no point. gradius final boss are known to be jokers (all you do is shoot one eye while your past self kills the other and its over) and i'll be damned if im leaving on the ps2 for weeks, at the risk of damaging both the game and the system, not to mention my mortal life just so i can gloat that i killed this joker 256 time.
Imagine RS with 256 loop, it'll make you sick with 3 or 4. (at least the final boss is a lot more challenging)

I agree with you on the loop thing, I don´t like that you can´t simply finish a Gradius game and it´s over. A second loop, okay, but the really high loops are mostly serving japanese top players to produce superplays.
What sense do looping arcade games have, anyways? If there are so many good players, why would arcade owners want to risk some dude playing this game 256 times in a row on one quarter?

well first of all, its just not possible. heck even if you play from midnight to the next midnight, you still wouldn't finish even half of it. (and good luck convincing the owner to let you in at night)FrederikJurk wrote:I agree with you on the loop thing, I don´t like that you can´t simply finish a Gradius game and it´s over. second, like you said, there is no point in looping. i remember playing dragon blaze during my lunch break, with one credit i beat the final boss and there was 10 minutes left before the break was over, and loop 2 is starting now. so either i skip class to beat it again, or just leave it. i chose to leave it, or rather giving it to a pass-by who was waiting next in line.
edit: i left it also because my hands were numb from bashing the button, no way would i survive another loop of button bashing.
VicViper Vs R9, will the eternal struggle between them ever end, only time will tell

R-Type should have Treasure do their next installment so they can get back in the game
BTW, is there a 256 loop super play box set???

Yeah, I played it last week. Pretty good, but not as good as Ketsui 2. Ketsui 2 is a lot more fun to play in Japan.Lili-Xiang wrote:

Hah, I think you could've spared the 30 seconds. Psikyo is how to do a loop. Skip right to the brutally hard loop XX difficulty level and end it.VicViper_Mk2 wrote:i remember playing dragon blaze during my lunch break, with one credit i beat the final boss and there was 10 minutes left before the break was over, and loop 2 is starting now. so either i skip class to beat it again
