I Just 1CC Psyvariar 2 Extend Edition!!!
Uhh, I think...
Its like this, Xbox import, full defaults. I've been using the female character for the last few times. Yes, thats correct! I've only played it a few times!!! (Go Me!!!)
There's the boss that looks like a potato...after a while he starts to resemble that boss from Blazing Lazers ( some 3 piece green mass with a ribcage exposed)
Anyway, his final attack is small pink lasers that fill the ENTIRE screen. After this, I was treated to the ending credits. AWESOME!!!! I could have sworn this was the 5th stage boss though, and in the high score list, well, there are default players that have reached stage 6.
So, whats up? Did I officially 1CC it?
EDIT: Forgot to mention this is part 2...

Well, depends how you want to see it. To reach the final boss you need to have a certain amount of buzz. So it could be said you finished the game with the "bad ending".
I've cleared the first Psyvariar the same way, and I don't count it as a 1CC.

No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

Well Ghegs..."bad ending" or not, it was played all the way through to the end credits without continuing...sounds a bit like a 1CC to me. Or am I stretching things here?
Oh well, how can I get a bigger Buzz...that is without drinking beer whilst playing this?
I guess we should consider that last boss (stage 6) to be a hidden level?

Well Rob, how do you get to the secret stage?
Any game in which you play through withOUT using continues (on defaults) and see the "staff/credit roll, well, thats beating it in my opinion.
I'm re-phrasing the above here, because it initially read as "with continues"...
In this case I clearly meant without.
Anyway, what about stage 6 then?

I'm with Rob. I wouldn't state it so firmly if you hadn't asked, but, I don't think that you've "officially" 1CCed it.
It's actually the level (see number in top-right corner) that has a large effect on how the game goes. You'll get a particular version of each of the first three areas based on how well you did in the preceding area (with regard to level), and I'm not quite sure, but you might need for areas 1, 2 and 3 to all be at least at "normal." For example; If you don't have a good enough showing in area 2 normal, area 3 will be set to easy, and you'll end up at only level 200 or so by the time that you reach "the incredible edible egg" (friend's words) which won't be enough to let you into area 6.
So, if you want, try to boost your level and see what happens. The girl does it mostly by shooting and the boy, by buzzing (of course). Scratch as many bullets as you can (and with the girl, also shoot as many enemies as you can), and use the invincibility/level up to your advantage (it's more useful with the boy, once you understand the game).
Edit- I need to submit posts more quickly. Yesterday, I was typing one up, and three people replied before I had submitted it, and it wasn't even that long.
So, although you asked Rob just now, I had most of this typed up before your most recent reply. I wasn't planning on answering for Rob...

Well this game is different. I think they did it this way to encourage people to learn the system. If so, it succeeded when I played it because reaching level 6 was the motivating factor in doing so. I can't recall the exact number, but I think you have to be at or above level 350 by the end of stage 5. A catch is you had to make the previous transformation at the end of level 4 (which is around 280). You'll definitely be having to make the hard stages, which aren't really hard. More hard to get (by buzzing/shooting/leveling up) than to play.TWITCHDOCTOR wrote:Well Rob, how do you get to the secret stage?

With Kei you'll definitely have to do your share of buzzing during the levels despite her being the shooting type, but with the bosses it's fairly optional. It isn't going to help you much in the way of leveling up.

So I guess, its a little like Ray Crisis' "Encrochment" meter? (in a way...)
To build these levels up, one must perform many "Buzzes"? (spinning around and touching bullets)
So, shooting enemies too quickly(before they shoot) will diminish my chances of having any bullets to buzz against?
It just seems weird to give them a chance to shoot at me for a while...try this in Missile Command/Space Invaders and see how far you get!!!
I guess my old schoolness prevents me from "getting" some of the newer shmups. Well, I take that back...I get it, it just doesn't seem like a good idea, as I'd rather shoot first and then ask questions later.

I'd call it a 1cc Twitch, but this is coming from the low-bar club. I also consider my completion of Psyvariar revision a 1cc. I kept buzz low and hence the rank low and the game was stupidly easy. There is certainly more to it, if you feel like the sort to explore, go ahead. However, if you go from the beginning to end credits without having to continue, I consider that a 1cc. Batsugun special edition is harder for me since beating the first loop actually doesn't play the end credits. Nonetheless, I consider it a 1cc.

Eugenics: you know it's right!
Twitch: Well, this certainly isn't Space Invaders.
You might not have to hold back too much. Buzzing is less integral to playing as Kei, since she's actually included for those whom would like to play the game simply as another standard shmup. You'll probably have to shoot everything to level up enough to reach area 6, though. I haven't played with ("as"! "AS"!) ... as... her for quite some time, but, I'll give it a go and see how close I get.
By the way, I thought that this was one of the most lackluster games (with regard to gameplay) when I first played it. I was using Yuhei because his MDS looked cooler, but was still playing with the focus on shooting, so I basically didn't make it past the second level boss, and thought that Yuhei was slow and weak and stupid (well, not... okay, yes). Truly though, I didn't know how I was suppose to play as him, and didn't know that Kei would be more my speed (at the time).
Yuhei draws much more from buzzing, his invincibility lasts longer, and his speed goes way up when he's invincible, all of which help you to get more buzzes and more levels and more invincibility--If you can figure out how to use it effectively.
It's almost as though Psyvariar is a "reverse shmup" (someone's probably said this before)... There are plenty of shmups where you keep a comfortable distance from enemy fire, and you want to take them out as quickly as possible, holding the fire button down as you enjoyably sweep the screen of its pests. In this one, you want enemies to shoot at you, because you can actually use it to your advantage... You draw energy from their bullets, and use that energy to plow directly through the enemies themselves! It's the kind of thing that you might wish that you could do if you get to an impass while playing other kinds of shmups for extended periods.

havent played psyvariar 2, but here's my 2 cents on the first one.
if you play it like a normal shooter, its kinda shit, and very easy for a manic.
now, if you decide to play it as its supposed to be played, buzzing your way trought the stages, leveling up multiple times in a row, learning to shoot the ennemies as they leave the screen, letting the bosses alive until their very last patterns (the hardest ones) and buzzing their every shot, the game becomes quite genious...made by 3-4 koreans in a kitchen maybe, but genious nonetheless.
i dont know psy 2, but the same should apply i think, so what i was trying to say is that you should give the game a chance as the developpers intended it to be played, and the way the game is the most enjoyable imo, before knocking it in the pile of the dust-gathering ones.
if you still dont like it after that tho, well, then you dont like it i guess.

I never said I didn't like it, I just didn't understand some aspects of it.
Don't worry, it won't end up in my dust pile too soon. Actually most all of my games see a fair "rotation", and Yes, I do continue to play even those older titles that have been 1CC hundereds of times before. (ThunderForce III/Blazing Lazers, etc come to mind)
