Valkyrie Sky(Korean MMOShmup)

Post by mainpatr1 »

Video here.

It's basically an overhead Sol Divide but done like a Cave shooter. It's only for Koreans, but I hope there would be an English version.

Nice to see Korea getting back into shmups.

You know, I've been on other sites that use that mncast place, and I can never get any of the videos there to play. Does anyone else get that problem?

Looks interesting, but i don't have any idea how they're going to deal with lag. Even 50ms can make shmup unplayable. (maybe that's why it's limited to korea)

This looks pretty innovative however it seems that sometimes there may be unavoidable shots.

No, this game is not Space Invaders.

The bullet patterns and character designs are so boring it's funny. I'd be surprised if I hear of this ever again.

Weird. Those are two genres that are so far apart from each other that I can´t see them fit together in a good way. :?

Definitely agree with that as far as bullet-patterns go.

Even for the "raid the boss" section, unless the players have massive hitboxes, Im wondering where exactly the challenge is here.

And as for character designs, this is always THE flaw with Korean-made MMOs (and I've played ALOT of them), is that there is usually VERY little, if any at all, character customization. And what you DO get for characters usually look rather drab.

Which tends to annoy the heck outta most US players (who wants to look exactly like everyone else?).

Though, MY problem with Korean-made MMOs is usually just the simple fact that they all seem to try to mimic Ragnarok Online; there's usually not much creativity as far as actual gameplay goes (click on enemy, begin auto-attack, rinse-and-repeat). Doesnt make them bad games, but....

At least this is something CREATIVE. I'd rather like to have a chance to try it at some point.....

Aye, it most certainly was, and therein lies the problem: RO is..... well, reeeaaaalllllly big as MMOs go there (and here, lol), and it's kinda like the EQ Syndrome from MMOs around here: Everyone tries to copy it (thinking it'll make them instant money) instead of coming up with their OWN ideas.

So is why alot of Korean MMOs all tend to have that same style of gameplay to them.

Valkyrie Sky has alot of inovation ( Sol Divide ) but is a blah game . The patterns look like they were meant for a two-year old .

@themachinist

Ragnarok Online is the biggest korean mmo of all times which is why everything after it is heavily influenced by it . Korean mothers + fathers used to leave their little kids unsupervised at home and they would be at internet cafes playing the game 24/7 . I also think a couple of koreans died while playing the game non stop without food or water .

I'll give this thread a bump as it is the one with more posts and postman will probably come here with the news (found this through NewStage, which in turn found this through Shoot the Core, talk about spreading the word in the interwebz): the game is out and ready for download, although it seems to have issues at the moment.

http://www.valkyriesky.net/ehome/download.php?mid=16

Screw those dodgy plug-ins, download the whole thing by clicking on the "other browsers" option.

Been playing a bit and so far it's quite meh, which is quite obvious as I'm just beginning but I would appreciate if the game stops quitting to desktop on me. The patterns are quite simple and there is a weight restriction: the more you carry on your inventory, the slower your speed so instead of speed-ups you get speed downs when you pick items. The hitbox is a bit unclear too.

And, lol at all the Touhou names...

I don't know what to think, at least there isn't much lag or I got lucky. In before jokes and the likes.

Just played it, and its about 70% MMO and 30% shmup.......so far the shmup levels are easy and unimpressive, but I hear it gets better later in the game....

If you are not an MMO fan don't bother, if you are casually into shmups don't bother, however having said that I like it overall and have the feeling it will grow on me....

I've never played an MMO so it's a bit overwhelming....

MMO
The worst thing about this genre is that it wants your money to the point of ruining gameplay and enjoyment.

Starting tomorrow, to be exact, under a new server. I quite enjoyed the last beta on gamengame *cough*, so I hope this one will be here to stay!

I have already downloaded the new client~

So, the game is out of beta now. I only played few stages, and so far, it's not bad. The fluff between levels is a bit excessive(as you would expect from an MMO), but actual shmuppin' is OK (OK as in "not completely unplayable" ).
Also, I haven't noticed any lag.

EDIT: What the fuck? Just when I started having fun, the game says I ran out of stamina, and have to fish to recover it...WHAT? It's a shmup, i'm here to blow shit up, not to catch fucking fish! This is bullshit.

I believe you've just been MMO'd.

I tried the beta earlier this year and wasn't really impressed. It features the familiar MMO characteristics -- stale gameplay, pretty effects and gallons of fetch quests.

Im gunna give this a try but since im only really into mmos with a sci-fi setting (Eve Online) the prospect of having to play a fantasy mmo that copies off wow fills me with dread

I just hope i dont have to do lots of pointless grinding but grinding due to death penalties i can put up with in small doses cos it makes the game more intresting

They've made an update to the game!

Actually, they've made two

Since january 5th, it looks to have also gained a rank system, and the game, at least up to the fourth set of stages, appears to have gained a lot more snipers and point blanking, as well as a few "unique" enemy attacks, like an enemy that causes wind to blow you character around. The Hitbox is also smaller, and they've greatly reduced the need for grinding. they also removed stamina use until level 11. This might make the agme more interesting for some people, though I am not one of them.

Anyone else still playing this game? I'm level 11 right now Bowman--Archer, if anyone wants to group my handle is Damein ...add me to your friends list.

I'm also looking to join a guild too!

I really enjoy the co-op nature of the game, plus if you're good enough you can fight bosses way past your level with your skill.

Does it still crash constantly? Or has the message spam on crash been removed at least? I'll considering giving the game another try if either of those have been fixed.
