I have no idea what's up with Nintendo's site, but the greyed out games are still available in the Wii Shop. So far the only example of a VC game being removed was in Europe, where SMB: The Lost Levels was only available for a limited time.
IIRC, if you had paid for the greyed out games, you could still download them again anytime.
I really can't see the point of removing a titles from the available list. It won't cost them much to keep a game listed.

SAM wrote:For the Japanese Wii, you might be able to buy Wii point this way, since Japanese got to pay the same sale tax no matter which province you live in. In this case, Nintendo might not required you to enter your card's billing address so you might be able to buy Japanese Wii points this way. But you would have to pay Japanese Sale tax.
That's exactly the reason why you can be able to purchase Japanese Wii Points. Unlike the US, they don't need address verification.

dave4shmups wrote:I have heard that you can buy flash memory expansion for the Wii, but I don't know how expensive that is.
It's a plain vanilla SD memory card. Price is around $25-30 for a 2GB card and peanuts for 1GB and under if you know where to look. Don't know how common the little tiny computer stores are in your area, but they are all over town in my parts.
Something like this will work.
2GB is the maximum capacity under the official SD protocol. As far as I know, Wii does not support the newer SDHC standard which allows for higher capacities, and using non-SDHC 4GB cards is a bit iffy.
Also, the VC games need to be stored in the Wii's internal flash memory, so the expansion can only be used for storage if you run out of internal space; you will need to copy your VC stuff back onto the internal memory if you want to play something you have deleted.
Ok thanks! Yup, I just read about Star Soldier R being Wii Ware. IMO, there's no way they're not going to come out with an HD for the Wii, as there have been plenty of other Wii Ware games announced.
@SAM, and others, I thought the VC was region-locked?
Wii VC is region locked. But that doesn't prevent someone to use an imported Wii to play VC games outside the region. That's is if you own a Japanese Wii, you could only connect to the Japanese Wii Store. Nintendo would prevent you from downloading anything if you set your Wii country setting at outside Japan. On the same token, I set my Wii country settings as USA, so that I could download from US Wii Store.
But yet you still can't set country to Japan for a US Wii nor USA for a Japanese Wii.
I am thinking of might be we would have to set to our real country setting when we start to play game online. Otherwise the players matching would match us to players far far away....

Yeah, that would be nice! Thanks SAM!

Still can't believe NOA threw us a bone and released S&P. Great game so far. Plus, 1200 points is a much nicer alternative to hunting down a pricey import cart and converter. Feels somewhat wonky with the CC though, will have to try it with the wavebird when i get back home.

Same here. Especially Fami Gradius II, the redone level layouts are fantastic.
Anyways, now that Wii supports USB keyboards, I need to snag one and give Raiden X a spin. Shame I don't have an adaptor for my crummy old serial keyboard.

Collecting sealed games, Professor?
Gate of Thunder is a fantastic game!
I hope to see some Japanese Duo games on the VC (Sylphia )
Well, officially the few sealed games I have are sitting there waiting for some spare time. But I do admit to enjoying that sealed look! I guess it reminds me of Christmas.
Just downloaded Gate and it is awesome. And it even looks great on my widescreen TV!
Needless to say ... but I will anyway! ... It more than justified my Wii's cost!
Never played it before, but after putting about half an hour in it, can't complain. Seems like good fun!

Eugenics: you know it's right!
I really like how Hudson has a link on their page with the word "shmup" on it. They word may be annoying and uguly but it shows that they have some connection to their fans. Also, I must commend Nintendo for giving companies the ability to put import and shmup games on the VC. Sure you can get the ROMs for free but it is still a small step towards my ideal game trend.
Some of the best shmups don't actually end in a vowel.
No, this game is not Space Invaders.

Interesting, was wondering how much diff the music would make. Definitely time for a Wii hard drive.
And speaking as someone who has owned GoT for over 13 years, it is definitely worth $8 for those hesitating. Only gripe is that most of bosses are too easy (try it on devil). Ace levels though, gorgeous visuals, huge enemies and one of the best shooter soundtracks ever. A lot of people prefer TF IV but IMHO GoT still has it beat in overall presentation.

I really think Nintendo won't consider releasing an hard drive add-on, since this would open a back door for priacy.

Well, I think most member here couldn't resist a shmup costing less than 10...
I haven't play GoT before, I just download it right a way upon it release on Monday.

Is it just me or is Gate of Thunder by far one of the easiest shmups out there? It took me 3 tries to 1cc it...never had played it before. Well it's a good morale booster if you're looking for an easy 1cc!

Or a good morale trasher knowing you're the only person who can't...
OT, nothing to do with Wii VC so don't get all excited please: I have not beaten Blast Wind either, which is also claimed to be one of the easiest shooters out there.

Set the difficulty to hard then.
I reach Stage 2 in my 1st game
I reach Stage 3 in my 2nd game
I reach Stage 4 in my 3rd game
Nothing to boot with, since the first few stages in some shmups are preaty easy.

Me too.
Should be playing that game more....

Ostragle and Gorn are pretty nasty. Hell, I've 1CC'd the game hundreds of times and those two still kill me occassionally (also, if you take path 6-2 near the end prepare for death if you haven't been practicing that route, ).
Oh how I wish the people who claim Blast Wind is too easy would play it on Very Hard though. Ostragle on that difficulty is sheer murder.
Back on topic, Gate of Thunder is awesome. If you want a REALLY easy 1CC though get Dead Moon.
