SNK arcade classics [PS2 / Wii / PSP]

Post by yojo! »

Does anybody have any info on the content of this compilation ?. Since most SNK fighting games have already been released I hope that SNK is going to focus on their older non-fighting games (Prehistoric Isle 1930 anyone ?).

Ikari Warrior, Time soldier, and such would be awesome; the dual stick could provide arcade like control.

I'm not sure much info has been released at this point. I still want confirmation that Metal Slug Anthology has gone out-of-print, following the announcement of all these other games.

SNK needs to get Ikari Warriors & Victory Road on one of their compilations. I can take or leave Ikari III, which plays more like DownTown than the other two games (you punch and kick, sometimes getting lucky and finding an occasional gun in III).

The PS2's dual shock control can handle it well with the right analog used to turn the player around (similar to what 720 does on the Midway collection), with L1 and R1 used to shoot and grenade.
Kinect? KIN NOT.

Yeah, a good aiming system for games like Ikari Warriors and Guerrilla War would be a big draw, since it doesn't work very well in MAME unless you have a specialty controller. They should also put on Psycho Soldier so they'll have both KOF predecessors, and POW is just too spectacularly crappy to not be included.

Time Soldier, it only needs Time Soldier. Most underrated SNK game ever.

Well shinsage, the compilation has already been made official, so I think there is hope. http://ps2.gamezone.com/news/09_21_07_11_36AM.htm

Unless they decide to focus on the neo-geo era, I think they are good chances to finally see a console port of ikari warriors, time soldier and guerillar war.

Even though it's obviously EONS away from the arcade one, playing very differently, the SMS version is pretty cool

Just pray the gods of arcade gaming that it does not get plagued with lags like in Metal Slug Anthology for PS2.

That will suck hard . Then I might have to get SS4 for the saturn anyway because that one is arcade perfect with the 4MB cart .

it has smaller sprites and some serious slowdown at times... i never noticed any issues with the neo cd.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

Yeah, none of the non-Neo SS games are very close to arcade perfect...

IIRC, SSIV is the only SS game on NGCD that's not arcade-perfect (missing animations, besides load times) but it's still far more accurate than any of the other ports out there.

zOMG! They're actually going to port Samurai Spirits 2? Clearly the end of the world is coming.

I thought it used the 1m? As far as I know, all of the SNK ports aside from KoF '95 (rom cart) use the 1m cart, not the 4m. I tried to find info about how good the SNK fighting games ports on Saturn are, but google wasn't much help and www.neogeo.com was much less helpful than I expected. So SS4 Saturn is far from arcade perfect? How do the KoF games and Real Bout Special fare? I need to get something for my Saturn that makes good use of the 1m or 4m. I was thinking of X-Men vs. SF or Vampire Savior. Cotton 2 sounds sweet too.

I was confused by that post at first. I was thinking SS as "SEGA Saturn" instead of "Samurai Showdown".

I'd say get Vampire Savior. Great fighting, better balance than the first two games, great visual style, every character from the series (plus hidden ones), virtually zero load times, and a few extra goodies hidden away like an English language option.

As for the announcement...
THE KING OF FIGHTERS COLLECTION: THE OROCHI SAGA (PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system)
Oh hell yes.

SAMURAI SHODOWN ANTHOLOGY (PlayStation 2 system)
Oh mother FUCK YES!

How is the Saturn version worse than the NGCD version? The comparison sprites were taken from SSF and MAME they're not duplicated. Didn't Samurai Spirits always have slowdown after a hit?

Yeah, but there's slowdown that the NGCD version doesn't have. Just play through as Gaira and fight Zankuro.

I also thought that the SS version (sorry for the ambiguity) had even less frames of animation than the NGCD but I could be wrong on this.

more people in the world enjoys The King of Fighters? I thought this was only popular in the third-world countries, like Mexico and here in Brazil, as we are too poor to have the real good games, and everyone settles for the 1000 years old Neo-Geo games.

I never hear people talking about it in internet forums, it's always Street Fighter 3 ST, Guilty Gear, MvC2 or whatever. Here where I live EVERYONE loves KoF, it's kinda weird, I usually try to make them play GOOD fighting games, but everyone always wants to play KoF.

KoF XI is pretty good though (And even better, I kick ass at it)... making a huge combo that finishes with a Dream Cancel and takes 90% of your opponent energy who had never seem anything like that is just too cool (Even cooler when you have whinings of "hey hey .. HEY HEY HEY STOP THAT! THAT'S UNFAIR WTF ?!?!!?!?"

Best CD versions of Samurai Shodown III and IV were on the NGCD.

More frames of animation were on the NGCD version. Better sound, and less slowdown.

This might be premature, but has SNK Playmore released a list anywhere of the games they plan to include?
