Well it probably depends on the game, but I remember Treasure said the theoretical maximum for Normal mode in Ikaruga was 36mil, and that was long before anyone came near that (WIZ eventually reached 36mil, just barely).
I think the designers have a pretty good idea of the max scores possible once they finish the game. I mean, they know all the math behind it. But you're right, they probably don't sit down and say, "let's make a game with a maximum high score of 1 billion!" when they set out to create a game.

I think it becomes exponentially harder in games where the bullets become points, and there can be hundreds of them on screen at one time. Sure they can plug in some numbers, but there's gotta be a little chaos theory involved in such a game.

A new update on the Cave festival site:
http://www.cave.co.jp/event/fes200709/index.html
All 5 of the players on the DVD will be at the festival along with Mihara and Ikeda, and will talk with the fans in attendance. So you'll have ISO, TAC, NAL, SWY, and KK with Mihara and Ikeda. Basically the top players in Japan all in one room. Man, now I really wish I could go to that.
Also, if you go make sure you bring your DS. That's the only way you'll be able to play Ketsui DS (it will be a timed download only available at the event, there won't be any DS's to play there).

Do any of those top players work at Cave? Do any of them have a website? I was trying to look for Clover-TAC's a while back but just couldn't find anything. Heck, even if they have a myspace page that would be cool! I'd just be curious of their thoughts on some games.EOJ wrote:A new update on the Cave festival site:

Well, they know how many frames an enemy persists onscreen, how many bullets they fire per frame and when they start firing, etc. So I think they can get it just about exact. It owuld be rally hard to calculate, but I guees if they WANTED too..GaijinPunch wrote:I think it becomes exponentially harder in games where the bullets become points, and there can be hundreds of them on screen at one time. I guess they just closed the deal on the players. The flyers they were handing out at the AM Show only said Ikeda & Mihara would be talking. Glad they have the times posted... not sure if I will stick around until 15:00.
Hmm... new Ketsui goods. Wonder what the odds of arcade osters showing up are. I'm starting to think the stuff for sale won't be nearly as impressive as last time.

The blog gionmatsuli posted in the Death Smiles thread has a nice nugget at the end. Mushihime-sama Futari v1.0 at MIkado in Shinjuku has Ultra Mode unlocked. Says that it's essentially the same as v1.5 but the character movement is the same as in the first version, which makes using Palm a bitch. Pretty wild that it is in fact in there though.

Amazing. They don't say how it was unlocked though.GaijinPunch wrote:The blog gionmatsuli posted in the Death Smiles thread has a nice nugget at the end. Pretty incredible it took nearly a year to unlock it. And Cave didn't even mention it existed.

A year seems a bit long for a time release. I'll ask next time I'm in there. Wonder if they'll spill the beans.
EDIT: Movement above is a bad translation. Characteristics is better. I assume they refer to Palm not being able to jack certain enemies quickly, or at all w/o bombing.

Very cool review. Now it gets me wanting to try out 1.0 to compare the two.EOJ wrote:For those interested, I have posted the first English language review of Mushihime-sama Futari Versions 1.0 and 1.5. Thanks guys.
1.0 kits can still be had, they just aren't advertised. Try contacting Fujita, ECL, and the like and inquire. They get 1.0 boards from time to time. They are basically the same price as 1.5 boards.
No word on how Ultra 1.0 is different from 1.5 yet, well nothing really concrete at least. I'd love to see a video of it, to look for any differences!

mushis ultra was unlocked by 1CCing maniac wasent it??EOJ wrote:Not yet, as far as I know. I think it's either a timer thing (which might take ages), or you have to clear it 100+ times, like how Mushi's Ultra mode was unlocked.
whats to say 1.0 Ultra isnt a spoof (we saw plenty before the release of 1.5), is there any proof?

No, you have to 1CC Original 100 times, or Maniac mode 50 times. Then you have to enter the code.sven666 wrote:

I doubt 1.0 Ultra is a spoof since it's sitting in an arcade in Shinjuku, and people are playing it every day! I guess GP might be able to confirm it next time he stops by the arcade.

Yes, the book came with all the DVDs. And yes it sold out in one day! I see they are already fetching 12,000 yen or so on YJ.Radiant wrote:is the guide book always inclusive or was this lim?

The scary thing is Play-asia still has not listed this, so they may not be getting copies of it this time, like they did with the Galuda 2 DVD.
My copy came today, but I was not home to sign for it. I'll pick it up tomorrow or friday at the post office. Really looking forward to watching it.
Will post some impressions for those interested.
