Cool! Will you include every single arcade STG from that time?

I don't know why, but I am entertained immensely by countdowns.

I'm excluding games I think are popular to make the list less predictable, STGT-style (and shorter for me). That amounts to about 15 games excluded. No Psikyo, Cave, etc.

Who's got time to do a countdown? We've got crappy games to play over and over.

Some people might not count this game because it is a single screen shooter, but I am counting it because this list needs to start out right. Stage 3 needs an animated gif like you wouldn't believe.

THERE IS NO TOPPING THIS. I MIGHT AS WELL STOP NOW.

No, MAME's listing is always right.

Maybe.

I knew if anyone had played this it'd be you.

Were these the preview screen shots intended for all audiences or is this as hot as it gets?

#72 Viewpoint (Sammy, 1992)
ImageImageImage
Everything I hate about shooters in one game! Action takes place at an awkward angle to facilitate the inclusion of many awful ground-based obstacles like rising floor tiles. Die on a boss and get sent back multiple tile-slinky-sliding wall-bouncing turtle shell sections. If it wasn't for savestates I would have given up on stage 2 instead of 4. Bonus: really dated, nasty looking 3D.

#71 Twin Eagle II - The Rescue Mission (Seta, 1994)
ImageImageImageImage
I was all ready to start trashing this game and then they ended it by thanking "everyone who was dedicated to the project" and even posed for a group photo, all smiling and proud giving a thumbs up. I HATE THAT. Now I can't shit on it with a clear conscience. This is the most disastrously ugly game on this list. Helicopter shooters were almost universally horrible until recent years. The hitbox is gigantic, which downgrades any action automatically and the action is like level 1-1 or 1-2 in Under Defeat over & over with TE2's 10-20 times larger hitbox. There is some sort of scoring system involving a multiplier. This is usually triggered by razing ground targets like parking lots (Parking lots? Fuck 'em!). Occasionally you will be able to rotate with your target(s), choppier than the worst stop motion animation.

Thank God it's over. ;_;

Viewpoint is terrible. What are you thinking? Also, please don't quote an entire post w/ screenshots. Less clutter. :)

I've played Viewpoint on NGCD. Thought it was impressive visually and I had a fun time dodging bullets, but didn't spend a whole lot of time on it. I'm surprised it ranks this low.

You're not the only one man.

I'm sad that it went this low.

Then again Rob is a Takumi fanboy. ;)

Poor Rob
This thread is getting Fighter17'd

Viewpoint is fair game. We have a member in the Great Lakes shoot them up club who is a master of Viewpoint -- I think he can 1lc -- I know he is 1cc no problem. For me I suck at the game and get this I play the PlayStation game ROFLZ LOL

Apologies, Rob, but methinks I'm going to have to lock this for now, until the higher-ups get the chance to have a look and decide what to do with this. Start a new topic to continue the countdown if you want. (EDIT - Looks like that won't be necessary.)

Any efforts by anyone to continue the flaming anyplace outside of PMs will result in disciplinary recommendations from me to the admins. Consider yourselves warned.

Never play Viewpoint.

I don't even want to know what it takes to one life clear the game. The game is like one step beyond an R-Type style memorizer, to the point where it doesn't even feel like a shooting game anymore.

The angle takes this game over the edge, when there actually is a bullet pattern to dodge. It is hard enough to judge hitboxes in some of these games (with a clear overhead view). The checkpoints secure its barely above Play Girls 2 ranking. But, you know, at least they weren't relying on semi-nudes covered in corpses.
