Need a good import site.....

Post by -Bridget- »

.....to buy import PS2 titles from.

Specifically, Im currently trying to find Ibara, and Giga Wing Generations.

Yet,

Finding an import store that isnt A: Play-Asia, or B: National-console-whatever, is very hard. Both are basically useless.

Ebay is also basically useless. There IS a copy of Ibara I found on there, but I'd rather not have to resort to that place. In particular I dont want to have to WAIT for the damn bidding to end.

I know there's other import stores out there, but Google, as almost always, is failing me utterly (I dont do too well with search engines, never did, never will).

Any help is much appreciated!

You won't find Ibara at any import stores these days, it's long been sold out. Your best bet would be ebay or Yahoo Japan auctions.

My fave import shop for new games is www.yesasia.com. They usually have the best prices, their shipping is FREE worldwide, and it's really fast shipping. They recently upgraded their shipping so it's faster than it was before. My last order took about 4 days to arrive. Stuff from play-asia takes 10-14 days minimum.

Wow I just checked that site. Most items I'd like are much cheaper there than on ebay! Awesome tip. I suggest everyone check for desired items there as well.

www.japangamestock.com is quite good.

Edit: just checked, and their PS2 games are almost non-existant.
For that, I guess Ebay is best.

you could check yahoo auctions japan, you'd have to use a middle man though.

ibara is gonna be a bit pricy b/c it aint new anymore. it's not sitting there in stock sealed, maybe at some random shop in japan but i bet that's even not that common if at all.

i don't think GW generations should be hard to find or that costly. i got it for like 20 bucks..... but bewarned it sucks in a major way. i sold it the same week i got it, and made a profit lol....
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

Possible point of interest if you're still looking for GWG: there was a budget PAL release by 505 that's still fairly readily available for about tuppence: this Amazon uk marketplace search includes sellers that'll ship internationally.

It needs to be switched to NTSC output every boot (possibly blindly if your display doesn't accept a PAL signal), and formats scores three instead of four digits at a time, but otherwise I assume it's the same as the JP release. Don't know if those inconveniences would be too off-putting, but it's certainly cheap as hell.

www.videogameimports.com currently have two for sale both new and used.

They are a really good UK import site, a little pricey sometimes but the ower is very friendly and reliable.

There's always www.ravengames.co.uk to try.. But I found them very expensive and their staff just plain impolite, but I haven't used them for many years so maybe they have changed now.

Both are UK based but VGI exports anywhere I think.

And last but not least, I have Ibara for sale, used but only for about an hour and in perfect condition... VGI are selling it for £45 so I'll sell for £40 plus postage at cost msg me if you're interested.

Cheers

Actually my one (and most likely only) child keeps me a bit busy. He's an angel until it's bed time. Then, he's a little asshole.

Anyways, yeah, I'm pretty reachable via PM (here, or my site), email, or the contact form on my site

Thanks for the list of sites; this'll definitely come in handy in the future.

As it is, I've found and ordered both Giga Wing Generations AND Ibara.

Lol, I actually found Ibara about 60 seconds after reading the "You won't find Ibara at any import stores these days, it's long been sold out" line from up above :P

You might be the only person that has actively sought out GWG.

Maybe, but I dont have the slightest chance of ever getting to play GW 2..... so this'll have to do.

I dont have a Dreamcast, and Im not buying one just for ONE game (there really isnt much else at all on that thing that interests me much, never was.... I had one awhile ago but almost never used it).

And if a rom of 2 exists, which I doubt, it's nigh impossible to find.

Besides, Generations was rather cheap, as these go.

I hear it's the "worst in the series", but why is that, exactly?

I think it is the wost version because of the frame rate problems which hinder you from dodging bullets and stuff . Still playable but definetly an anoyance . Hey Gaijin Punch how is life in Japan wish I could live there .

Not sure what you're into. There are indeed some great games on the system. Gigawing 2 is hardly the best game on it (although it's good).
And if a rom of 2 exists, which I doubt, it's nigh impossible to find.
That would be an image, as it's a Naomi GD-ROM game, not a PCB. I don't keep up with current emulation, so can't tell you the state of Naomi. I think the hard part is reading the actual GD-ROM
I hear it's the "worst in the series", but why is that, exactly?
Well, to be fair, all shooting games on Type-X are pretty crap, The hardware is made for bland 3d cookie cutter games. So, w/ the Arcade version not living up to the other two to start doesn't help, and the port is really awful. Bad frame rate and no TATE mode.
Hey Gaijin Punch how is life in Japan

Well, that explains the lack of a Rom for that game.

As for the Dreamcast, I dunno.... back when I had it, I just never really used it much, and there never really seemed to be much I wanted to buy for it. And then the whole thing just plain died due to Sega's idiocy. Nowadays, I automatically distrust anything that company produces.

But I think that was the main thing about it, the game selection. Dunno why it bugged me back then, and today, I just dont know enough about it to bother trying to get another one. For all I know, it might be loved because it has alot of good imports; and I try to limit my importing, cause of how VERY expensive the stupid shipping is (grumble)

As for Generations, well, Im not really gonna care too much about the graphical problems, really. I wasnt expecting that part to be all that good. And I cant see anything surpassing the original game anytime soon, so, wont be disappointed by THAT.

As for it being a bad port.... I seem to not always even notice that. I've heard quite a number of times, what a bad port the PS2 version of Mushihime-sama supposedly is (though I forget exactly why), but whatever the problem for that game is, I dont notice it myself, and still love it.

Besides, even if Generations isnt particularly wonderful, it WAS cheap, and I'll have Ibara arriving in the mail probably later this week to amuse me.

Ibara WASNT cheap, lol...... so that's the one that better amuse the heck outta me..... :P
