Nice one Mulletgeezer, good for 2nd place in the Reco chart! I see you have a good grasp of the scoring system now.

Thanks :D

I thought the scoring system on Original was stupid when I first played this game, but I love it now. Scoring well in the final stage seems tricky though. Do you have any idea what the maximum achievable scores at the end of each stage are?

Well the WR is now 525mil with Normal Reco, so that's the maximum Stage 5 end score but I really don't know where he is getting some of those points. RAM has a 470mil Normal Reco run up on youtube, each level is a separate video. Watch that and you should get a good idea of some optimal end-level scores, as well as some really good techniques!

Well, I got the Maniac clear finally w/ a really shitty score of 373,631,347. I screwed up just about every scoring opportunity on stages 2 & 3... including the stage 2 boss. I pulled it together for stage 4, ninja'ed the last big ass guy just before the boss (I always bomb there) and went into the stage 4 boss w/ 3 remains and a bomb. Perfect. I can easily go into stage 5 w/ 3 remains, but, fucked it up TWICE and went in with one. I somehow pulled a clear out of my ass, doing the first form of the last boss pefectly, bombing twice on the second form, and bombing the shit out of the third (sue me).

The run before was a slight improvement on myscore:
Maniac Mode - Reco
444,379,109 - GaijinPunch - Stage 5 (Boss) - Normal

I'd like to get an all w/ 500 mil, but I'll be taking a break. This is a bit of a milestone, as it's my first 1CC in ages (ever?) that I got from playing the game at the arcade only.

Congrats on the clear, GJP. Must have been a neat thrill to do it in an Arcade. Was anyone watching at the time?

Now you should learn how to play Original mode and go for a 300+mil clear with Reco. That's roughly as difficult as a 400-500+mil clear in Maniac mode, and just as much of a rush.

@CIT: Shibuya Kaikan on Center-gai. 50 yen arcade. They've got MMP, Galuda II, Ketsui, and DOJ as well. Galuda II isn't really playable (bad sticks) but the rest are fine. A few other goodies as well (Raiden II, Raiden Fighters Jet).

@EOJ: I'll probably play original here one of these days. W/ STGT07 coming up I'll definitely put it on hold. Or, just wait and pick up the board. If I clear both modes, I'm much less likely to pick it up. :)

Nope... the only people in the vicinity were tied up in a Melty Blood match.

Well clearing Original shouldn't be too hard for you. Getting a score over 300mil is what is a fun challenge. I'm aiming for 400mil in Original and 600mil in Maniac at the moment, but I have a feeling those are going to take me some time.

Don't forget Ultra mode! I still play that a lot and I'm learning some new tricks there. It's a lot more fun than the first game's Ultra mode because you don't have to worry about the tappity-taps while you're dodging 500 bullets coming at you super fast.

EDIT: Here's the direct link to RAM's 470+mil run Original mode vids on Youtube:

Thanks. I'll check it out. As long as there's no sick milking parts (can you milk boss 2 in original?) I'll probably enjoy it. My issues w/ Maniac were that I died on the 2nd stage boss a lot. Even now, I'd say I only pull it off w/o dying about 70% of the time, and pull it off w/o dying AND max points only 60% of the time.

There is no boss milking in Original, the Stage 2 milking doesn't work (it works in Ultra though it's hard as hell--I've seen a vid of a crazy Japanese dude attempting it). That's the main reason a lot of Japanese players prefer original. I don't like the boss milking in Stage 2 maniac much either, as it basically makes or breaks your run (I have about a 75% success rate now though), and it's a bit too long.

Original is very fast-paced and the gameplay is similar to Ketsui. You have to get close to enemies, move into gem swarms to suck them up fast, and switch back and forth between A and C at the right times.

Speaking of Original, I just played a credit today. I was rocking the gems, getting into a nice groove and jacking up my multiplier with a no-miss no-bomb up until halfway through Stage 5 where I died once, then a couple more stupid deaths near the end, and two deaths on the final boss to end my game just before the boss would have died. Final score was 315mil and I didn't even clear it!

You're getting there brumma! :D I may sound like a broken record but I really have to warn you that you're in for a world of pain starting in Stage 4 if you keep using Abnormal Palm. Stages 4 and 5 are a lot harder to score with him than with Normal Reco.

People seem to like to start with him in Original mode because he has the strongest A shot, but don't be deceived. He's easier to use in the first couple stages, but it gets harder and harder as you go along due to his lousy C shot. Normal Reco and Normal Palm are both a lot easier to use in stages 4 & 5.

The one advantage of Ab Palm in Stage 5 is he takes down the last boss faster than Normal Palm (and a bit faster than Normal Reco as well), and he can take down those big dragons fast too.

I've actually been switching off between Abnormal Palm and Normal Reco, but my Reco scores are too embarrassing to post. I like Palm's speed increase when you hold down your C shot. I'm only up to about 21M with Normal Reco. I'm definitely keeping your comments in mind as I play! Even though I enjoy these games a LOT, I'm waaaay behind the rest of you lot in skill.

Cheers,

Do you understand the scoring in Original? Basically you need to kill things with the C shot when the 100 digit on your overall counter is between 0-4 (it will be colored green at this time), and kill them with the A shot when the 100 digit is between 5-9 (it will be colored blue at this time). So you start off in level 1, and you should kill everything with the C shot until you get 500 gems, then you switch to the A shot until you get 1000 gems, at which point you switch back to the C shot, and back and forth and so on. As much as possible of course. Doing this allows you to get large gems instead of small gems, which makes your multiplier increase faster. Also:

- try and be fairly close to the enemies when you kill them, there is a proximity effect similar to Ketsui, and this makes the gems glow green for a second, doubling their value!
-Hold C or nothing to suck in the gems in the air at any time
-Hold A to suck in all the gems on the ground at any time (you just have to press it for half a second to suck things in, but you can hold it longer if you like).

For more detailed info, check out my strategy thread on this game.

Yep, I've read your FAQ--very helpful! It's just that there's a LOT going on on-screen so it's hard to concentrate on the right things at the right time sometimes. A lot of the time I eat a bullet when I'm glancing at the rank to check the color. Plus I'm still memorizing the levels at this point. I like this game so much more than the original Mushi though. There really very different games.

I like this better than the original Mushi as well (never thought I'd say that, as I love the first game, but this one really is even better). I'm sure in a couple weeks after you have a better grasp of the levels, you'll be cranking out some good scores. You only got this game a few days ago, right? Anyway, good luck at it.

I agree on that ;)

Right decided to give Reco a go today and it was my fist time on maniac;
I've been playing far to much ghouls and ghosts recently, time to put alittle effort into this game.

original mode - reco

236,765,973 - THE ALLETT- ALL (Lx0) - Normal. This run was complete arse, no miss to stage 4, left the stage with 1 life :(

MANIAC mode - reco

276,085,781 - THE ALLETT - LEVEL 5 (boss) - Normal

I've now got to figure out the best places to get the most points!
In the words of an alcholic, have another drink!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I like Original Mode better in Futari (what little I've played), Maniac better in... uh, the original. :) Although the button tapping gets a bit asinine. I think it's the whole dinosaur thing that kind of turns me off. It would've been nice to have some bosses w/ personality though, a la ESPGaluda II.

Original - Palm
GaijinPunch - 159,747,787 - Stage 5 (Boss) - Normal

Not bad for my first credit ever (since I test-drove your 1.0 PCB)

Still haven't figured out which is stronger... Palm's shot or laser.

Not bad at all! But why are you using Palm?? Normal Reco is the way to go.

The A shot is always stronger than the C shot. This is true of all characters (normal or abnormal).

Keep the scores coming guys, it's great to have some competition. :)

Not me. Palm is good, but Reco is better, especially for someone more used to her like you are. The WR was done with Normal Reco (525mil). The Palm WR score is far behind that, last I checked. Maybe because the last boss is easier with Normal Reco.

If you just want an quick 1CC, use Abnormal Palm, as he takes down the bosses really fast, and the last boss is pretty easy with him (even easier than with Reco). It's a pain in the ass trying to score with him, however. I'd be amazed if anyone has broken 400mil with him in Original. Then again I saw a Japanese dude get 750+ mil with him in Maniac mode (yes, Abnormal Palm), so it's probably possible.
