New Dreamcast shooter from Redspot Games

Post by neoalphazero »

The guys behind Last Hope apparently announced two new DC titles, a puzzle game and:

Dalforce (Sega Dreamcast)
Genre: Shoot´em Up for 4 players with 11 levels
Release: Q1/08

Well, i'm looking forward to a new shooter on the dreamcast- especially if its done by the guys behind LAST HOPE- yip, i know they couldv'e done things a bit better and it needed a bit more playtesting, but it was a very good attempt at a new Rtype like shmup.

I liked it

4 player shoot 'em up? Interesting.

Also, LOL. Those DC die-hards don't know when to quit, do they?
Of course, that's just an opinion.

Wasn't redspot games only the publisher on DC, while NG Dev team were the developers?

I'll have more confidence if it's NOT NG Dev team who is making the game.

11 levels? That's getting into Euroshmup territory. And good luck trying to find 3 other people to play shooters with.

How will it be released?? I understand that the GD ROM has stopped being produced?

I know games can be used in CD ROM format but it affects the laser over time.

Although, I would welcome a new DC shooter. I think the system is great.

I hope that actual good companies see this release and realize there's still a demand for games on the dreamcast.

Ah...Maybe the "CD = Laser Death" rumour is a load of bollocks then. Probably started by SEGA because of how easy it is to back up DC games onto CD.

My DC is still going strong

OT: The dc laser will wear out faster using cdroms than gdroms simply because a cdrom with lots of data will require more movement from the laser. Also, the laser has to strain to read the first bits of data on the inner ring of a cdrom because for whatever reason, it wasn't built to slide down that far to read it properly.

However, most games using Kos don't force the laser to do a lot of work. Usually it just needs one load into the ram and it's done for the day. Either way, as long as you aren't playing pirated games that were poorly put together on a poorly burned cdr; then your dc should live a long life.

Anyway, it's odd how this game was announced as a Goat Store game but now is coming from red spot games as one of their 3 announced titles.

Dalforce (Sega Dreamcast)
Genre: Shoot´em Up for 4 players with 11 levels
Release: Q1/08

Wind and Water: Puzzle Battles (Sega Dreamcast)
Genre: Puzzle with over 100 stages
Release: Q1/08

Wind and Water: Puzzle Battles (GamePark Holdings GP2X)
Genre: Puzzle
Release: Q4/07

Check out footage for the (tentatively called) shmup XOP on Retro Core - Dreamcast Shooting Special 2 on this website

Quite good looking stuff even if it´s a wip! :)

*edit*: I stand corrected, but XOP still looks good and you should still check it out:P

Hopefully they'll be making a vert shmup this time around. Let's just hope they actually create an original game (from scratch) instead of imitating a shmup from the past. :P That's all I care about. Oh, and another great soundtrack to go with it.

Please note that Red spot games are only the PUBLISHERS and [u[NOT[/u]
the developers. And if you´ll check out on the info I gave you, you should be able to find out that it´s at least vertically orientated....

I'll not fall for one of those homebrew shmups again. This time:

Max, big shot at both DCS and Redspotgames (sorry Max, couldn´t figure out a better way of clearing this up) wrote: Dalforce is something on its own by the way because a lot was re-written and it has dozens of new graphics.
So check it out again and then expect something a little different (well that´s how I read this anyway).

XOP apparently has been playtested and found to be quite good by some well respected members of the gaming community... so that is sounding promising for a "variation" on it,Right?
Right! :D

(Sorry if the makers of this game, who are NO doubt reading this, don´t like this kind off publicity. I just though the XoP Wip looked extremely promising and hope my assumptions are right...).

Redspot games should clarify that this game is not being made by the same people as Last Hope though. Despite the fact that it´s a wonderful game, this still has a bad buzz surrounding it.... :(
