Both Kotaku and Gamespot have confirmed a better D-pad for the PSP. The refresh rate might still be crap, though :P.

I dunno if these are realtime battle scenes or prerendered FMV, but either way, I love the artwork.

That's CG. Nothing to get excited about.

After going though more about the game, it looks like it might be fun.

But well, it is not something I would buy a PSP for. (As I haven't got one yet)

It's off-topic, but will the new PSP be released in time for Dracula X Chronicles?

For a strategy game it's certainly got the looks and peronally I love the moody music even though it's just remixes from Final.

Just wish they announce a ps2 version as I'm not fond of handheld gaming...

Yep, very nice trailer! Let's hope it won't take them ages to translate all the text.

Yeah, but who's bringing it to this side of the ocean? Eidos brought Final, and I don't think it sold well enough for them to risk another venture that's not GTA/sports/FPS stuff.

Actually, I think there would be plenty of publishers ready to take an R-Type shmup overseas. Virgin distributed R-Types in PAL countries, too. Of course, this being a strategic game, it has the same chances to arrive here that Paro Wars ever had. :?

Honestly, I don't understand your fear that it might stay JP exclusive.
I mean it's not a big secret that PSP needs EVERY game that can somehow drive hardware sales up since Nintys DS is destroying everything. The fact that it's a strategy game (or a turnbased shooter if you want) and not a classic arcade shmup makes a western release even more likely.

@Turri
Well, maybe you noticed that games like Advance Wars or Starcraft are kind of popular over here. So, what was your point again?

AH AH!! This one is too good. We'd get automatically a localized version of any PSP game because Sony has to catch up with the DS... AH AH :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

I'll just mention this:

Where did I write "automatically"? It's an interesting looking strategy game and a rather known franchise which is not restricted to the anime crowd. It even looks like it has some really cool multiplayer. Doesn't sound too exotic for a western release to me.

"Actually, I think there would be plenty of publishers ready to take an R-Type shmup overseas. Of course, this being a strategic game, it has the same chances to arrive here that Paro Wars ever had."

Either you're living in some strange parallel reality where shmups outsell strategy games or you simply wish R-Type Tactics would be a shmup a little bit too hard. I don't think Final sold very good and no there are definitely not "plenty of publishers ready to take" ANY shmup overseas.
I wouldn't be too surprised if the tactic behind the decision to turn R-Type into a strategy game is too broaden the audience therefore a western release (sooner or later) seems very likely to me.

Btw, nice emoticon fetish :)

Edit: The decision to release Genso Suikoden I and II is first and foremost the one of Konami.

Any idea what codec this uses? I get music (which is original and not remixed from any previous games, nicely enough), but not video. Since it's streaming I can't scan the file to find out.

Sorry Necronom, I forgot to replay to this thread.

Anyway, I see your point: strategy games are more popular than shmups. Fine. It's just that R-Type is perceived as a shmup brand, and so I think it's unlikely that someone would publish it in the west - because when people hear R-Type, they think "shooter" (and rightly so).
And I don't think someone would bring it here just to help PSP sales against DS. It remains a niche brand.

Two bits more:

-the r-type crowd is even more restricted than the anime one;

-it remains to be seen why a fan of Advance Wars would want to play within the limited frame of "space crafts" - when he can play tons of versatile strategic games with real armies and such. I'm sorry I still see this as an oddity with small chances of being localized. But hey, If I'm wrong I'll be happy :)

Gamefront.de reports that R-Type Tactics has been reviewed in Famitsu (31/40). Any scans out there?

Thanks for the translations and the videos! :D

I'm diggin' the OST so far! I would love to get this, but I don't know about the language barrier not being such a big deal-it takes a while to learn strategy games in English, but Japanese?? I hope this gets a Western release.

Maybe Eidos would pick it up if we mass email them? Or Agetec? Heck even THQ will do.
