Arkanoid DS-with paddle controller
Arkanoid DS-with paddle controller
http://ds.ign.com/articles/809/809948p1.html It looks like another version of Arkanoid is finally reaching home. I'm excited that they are actually releasing a paddle accessory for it, something that doesn't usually happen with DS games. Music from Zuntata too!

I was thinking the same thing. It would be awesome to see Homer Simpson's head as Doh in a parody version of Arkanoid.FRO wrote: I still think Taito should put out a Simpson's flavored version of Arkanoid...you know, Revenge of, Doh!
Neat, it looks like it has a (tated?) port of the original included.eight wrote:Better pic: http://www.imageannex.com/out.php/i3032_arkds.jpg
Just the other day I had a book about game controllers in my hands, looking at those paddle controllers , and wondering if any company is still producing them. I never was a great fan of Breakout/Arkanoid/the million clones of that since most of them played pretty slow, but adding new controllers to the DS via the cartridge slot is sweet. I was hoping for some additional hardware other than the Rumble Pak.
I really hope somebody realizes that this would be even better with Tempest.

yes, the controller carts are pictured in the scans in the above posts. I like how they are colored to match the DS Lite.pcb_revival wrote:Dial is not on the back.dave4shmups wrote:Thanks for the news, BrianC! As a huge Arkanoid fan, this sounds exciting! I only wonder how comfortable it will be with the dial on the back of the DS, unless it's on a cord.
The spinner control is a cart that plugs into the GBA port of the DS.

At any rate, it's AWESOME to see a new Arkanoid game!

See? SE hasn't killed off Taito's old franchises! (Well, not yet, at least.)

A playable demo of the game is now up here. It seems to play well. There is dead space, but it doesn't bother me as much as I thought it would since the physics are well done. Control is done with the mouse (while holding the button down) and space bar for lasers and releasing the ball. One thing that concerns me is that the game doesn't seem to have enemies like the original Arkanoid. The site for the game here doesn't list enemies either, which gives me the impression that Arkanoid DS may not have them.
After playing the demo, I can see why they do not have the enemies floating around. Due to the fact that the dead space is counted as actual gaming space that you cannot see, once one of those enemies could be floating in that no-mans-land and knock the ball back down at you, proving to be a frustrating experience.
I was hoping that the game would be played on its side in tate mode. It certainly seems to be lacking something without the critters flying around...

I did miss the enemies in the demo. They would probably not be too much of a hassle, since I don't remember them straying too far from the top part of the screen in the arcade versions. Taito could probably keep them constrained to the top half of the upper screen to avoid any problems.
So far, it looks good overall- and the Zuntata BGM is amazing.

Yes, you can.
I got the game recently, enjoy it. Love the Taito references, especially in Uranoid (which unlocks after you beat all the zones). The backgrounds are cool, love the Patoraco one (the girl from Cleopatra Fortune)

Cool beans! So, does the stylus control feel pretty good, or is it sketchy?ZeetherKID77 wrote:Yes, you can.
