Although the joke is made on Americans you have to understand its only a handful of people that made this video and does not represent the opinion of a nation.

Also, America is one of those countries where quite a majority of the people don't give a crap about anything regarding what happens outside of their borders. Where as we (Brits) have always had the perspective of caring about what goes on anywhere in the world because everything affects us.
Whoa watch it there, you're starting to fulfill the British stereotype of "pompousness" that a few Americans hold(you know the same ones that aren't aware of anything outside America's borders?). Fortunately I listen to a British online radio station at work called Fresh Air. I find it breaks down stereotypes because it gives me a daily injection of "britishness" and I'm liking what I hear.

http://www.freshair.org.uk/

You should try watching some youtube videos of the daily show sometime or maybe trying out dvds of the American version of the Office. You might find it refreshing.
As many of you know I lived in the States for 7 years and just came back. I know what sort of standing alot of Americans have. Did you know that 70%ish of Congress do not have passports because they do not have the wish to leave the country?

When I was in the States the Tsunami that happened where ever it happened (cant remember now) got reported almost 3 weeks after the BBC which reported it as it happened.

Yet for us, if a pin drops in America, its all over our TV and radio!

I've seen American TV for hours and hours. I've listened to radio DJ's who cut off the people on the phone because they have differing opinions on politics. Yet listen to those who agree for 30 minutes.

And as result (historically) Britain has faired worse being a US ally than the enemies have. Germany and Japan are now seen as economic power houses whilst Britain is seen as the country that would of lost a war if it were not for the Americans. This was the subject of my first conversation with a drunk American.

I see very refreshing things everyday.

Alright, so a friend of mine moved out to Arizona. A couple of months ago he met a graduate girl who asked him "Where are you from?"
He replied "London."
She asked; "What language do they speak there?"

I have repeatedly asked him "Is this really true??"
He swears "Yes".

I used to hear from some whacked out northerners that Islam was going to take over Europe, just like "white people were going to disappear from the United States!"

So I assume they all share this information among each other and rumors turn into facts. Then these rumors turn up on CNN with Lou Dobbs proclaiming the death of Europe...curiously no one bothers to ask a European what's going on and these idiots just get dumber.

It's not that these people are dumb, they just don't have access to information, for whatever reason. That or all they watch are news sources they "trust." I still get the occasional company phone call where I get asked, in a paranoid voice: "you don't speak spanish? I heard that's all you hear in TX." Then in my best exasperated voice I ask if Mr. Paranoid Rush Limbaugh freak would like to be routed to a Spanish support person....

Actually is IS here in London  .

Like in every major city; London, Paris, Brussels...the locals move out of the city.
Ealing, where I live now, is Polish, Arab, Indian, Pakistani and Japanese.

I've lived in Europe, the US and Asia, and I can tell you there are amazingly stupid people everywhere.

In Taiwan I was once asked if we still hang portraits of Hitler in our houses in Germany.

On the other hand here in Germany somebody once told me Hong Kong is the capital of Japan.

In America I was out with a Russian friend once when somebody asked her where she is from. When she said from Russia, she was asked "what state is that in?"

The people in this world who regularly read the news and follow up on world events are actually a very small minority. You can't really blame someone whose main purpose in life is flipping burgers for not knowing who the president of France is, it's not like it makes any difference to them.

Having lived extensively in Asia, I can say that there are indeed morons here, but just in different ways. Japanese are far more aware of world issues than Americans in general (even if they are amazingly secluded spiritually and less so geographically). Most of their idiotic comments stem from ignorance (that's lack of knowledge...not stupidity). Same thing in the states, and that video, just in slightly different ways.

Other things in this thread:
1: Yes, Bush was elected by the Red States (that's actually how they became red) and they have much lower average IQ's than the Blue states. The Blue states are the more "urban" states, whereas the Red states are often comprised of countryside. That definitely has some effect on the numbers.

2: Japanese cars (and craftsmanship in general) is better than US. I know US cars have gotten better in the years, but it is not odd to find an old Toyota/Hondo w/ a few hundred thousand miles on it and still run fine. I'm very jaded on US cars. Spent lots of hours and money I didn't have as a college student fucking w/ my Pontiac.

3: One of my bosses was swimming in the ocean in Honolulu and bumped into some young locals (high school kids skipping school). Here's how the conversation went:

Them: Where are you from?
Him: Chicago.
Them: Where's that?

I was in a Tesco minimarket the other night and the checkout girl asked me to use the new automated checkout till. I said I'd rather not and she came back with "You should, I like them". I replied "How the Hell can you like something that's designed to take your job? "
"This thing is here to replace you and take your income!"
She smiled sweetly and blankly  .

Thick.

That's debateable.
I still think I would blame them.

Does it even fit in there, maybe if you squared it in with a forklift

Note - In Italy it seems perfectly acceptable to knock a around whilst parking. You will see millions of cars with dents and pieces missing.

That's why you never see Ferraris and Maseratis on Italian Roads. They are Italian Cars, but you just can't risk it.
Rome is cram packed full of tiny smart cars for example.

On that theme, try the quadruple parking in New York.
There's some scary driving there too. A certain myopic section of the Brooklyn population make driving quite hazardous there  .

I always thought Russia won WW2 or at least the European theater. The British were too busy fucking around and hiding on their island while the Americans came in right as the war was winding down and stole the credit.

Really pretty soon we're going to get some French people in here claiming that they were ready to "make their move" just as D-day happened and could have won the war by themselves.

It was more the timing than the statement. In a time when we are friends and allies. When Germany did not even enter Iraq and Japan withdrew from Iraq, Britain cemented its position to support GWBush. I won't say America because I don't believe its Americas war.

If one day America becomes ground zero, I wonder how many nations will come from their safe lands to support you.

Britain was not tooled up enough. We built our technology as the war was underway. Germany had years on us, they started the war and prepared for it. Hiding on an island?

If there was one thing I did not want this thread to be, is personal. Is that how you want it to be? Could you not have a laugh about this over a beer in a bar? Or maybe its affecting someone else more than its affecting me! I'm just getting value for money on my Broadband thanks.

I know the chances of someone asking me that were very slim, but when I worked flipping burgers I *knew* that Miterrand was the president of France, and that was from the Simpsons. (When the kids try to get Krusty and his father to reconcile.)
