Just got my ST-V board & Terra Diver!
I just received my ST-V board today and have been playing Terra Diver.
I must say I am very happy with it and the gaming experience is completely different from playing the Saturn and Playstation version. The Saturn version is pretty close to the ST-V version but the PSX version suffers some major slowdown.
Now, I understand why people go for original PCB for some Cave shooting games instead playing the PS2 version.

I just got Souky for Saturn and love it. Pretty dang hard though, the 5th level or so destroyed me lol.
It's weird sometimes how PSX and SAT/ST-V versions are better than each other. Most SAT 2D games are far better, DoDonpachi and others being the exceptions on PSX

Don't be so negative all the time. Relax, nobody wants to deliberatly offend you by not mentioning the full names of every game. So now we have to be on our guard for your type of responses whenever we post anything? Another nice little thread hijacked by evil. Maybe it is just me, but your post comes across as angry, negative and hurtful. Maybe it wasn't intended that way at all.Ceph wrote:Sou kyu gu ren tai
You don't say R-Ty instead of R-Type either, do you?
Soukyugurentai is a great game with a slightly unfortunate rank system.

Most of my posts are completely void of negative emotions, like the one above. Just a neutral explanation how the name is written in kana, 'coz calling the game "Souky" irks me; hence the comparison with "R-Ty". Maybe I should use 10-50 emoticons in every post to prevent misinterpretations by the easily offended.
On second thought, maybe not. Don't be such a wuss.

Y'know, a lot of Ceph's posts come across as arrogant and confrontational. But that's okay.D wrote:Don't be so negative all the time. Perhaps he is just unaware that:
- a lot of people might like typing Souky instead of Soukyugurentai to save a little time
- a lot of people might have trouble spelling Soukyugurentai
It's okay Ceph. We know you're ignorant.
You don't need to continually point it out to us in every post you make.

Wow, I didn't expect my little thread would turn out like thisIcarus wrote: a lot of people might have trouble spelling Soukyugurentai
I am one of those people who have trouble spelling Souky, so that's why I wrote Terra Diver in the title
I used to dislike playing shooters on PSX since most shooters on SS version are better (ie Darius Gaiden). But PSX has some great 2-D exclusive titles such as Harmful Park and Raiden DX & Project.overkill55 wrote: It's weird sometimes how PSX and SAT/ST-V versions are better than each other. Hey ____, yes I saw the Cotton 2 and Groove On Fight carts for sale. But I am after Cottom Bommerang. I am actually looking for some other low end ST-V carts as well.overkill55 wrote:Hey Kit, did you see the Cotton 2 ST-V cart for sale on the neo-geo.com forums? There's another shooter if you are after one, though it is a lot different than Souky.

I thought it was exact? The Saturn version is pretty close to the ST-V version
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

In what way? There's been a lot of discussion about wether the SS version is better, or pretty much the same as the PS game, and those few members who had actually played both versions couldn't agree with each other. The Saturn version is close to the arcade game, what about the PS version?kitkit.com wrote:I used to dislike playing shooters on PSX since most shooters on SS version are better (ie Darius Gaiden).
Off topic, I know, sorry. I just figured the harm was already done.

Yes, the kyu (きゅう) is a long syllable, but when transcribing long vowels from kana into Roman letters a macron is used (that means a diacritic mark is placed over the vowel): āīūēō (Hepburn romanization; traditional and revised/modified Hepburn). Otherwise it would be impossible to tell where one kana syllable ends and where the next begins just by looking at the romanized Japanese. Using JSL (which is unpopular) it would be "Sookyuugurentai" - but after all it's not pronounced So-o-kyu-u-gu-ren-tai (which one might mistakenly assume when reading "Sookyuugurentai"), but Sōkyūgurentai. Because diacritic marks are sometimes unavailable (or simply out of laziness) they are at times omitted, as is the the case with "Soukyugurentai", which appears to be the official transcription and which I therefore use.UnscathedFlyingObject wrote:It pisses me off is when people correct others with a wrong correction...Ceph wrote:Sou kyu gu ren tai
