Psyvariar 2: The Will to Fabricate vs. Under Defeat

Post by Maikeru_Rocks »

Dudes I been playing theses games on my Japanese Dreamcast like crazy
I want know which game you think has the better graphics and gameplay. Also who's a better developer SKONEC Entertainment or G.rev?, the last thing who's explosions in gameplay is dead-on point?, Psyvariar 2: The Will to Fabricate or Under Defeat for me it's hard to decide.

You can't really compare the two games, the gameplay is so completely different.

Personally I like Under Defeat better, and I think it has better graphics and explosions.

That Psyvariar 2 is even mentioned in the same breath as Under Defeat baffles me. P2 has a somewhat lovely system, but lacks...well...flair. When I was playing it I couldn't shake the feeling that I was playing a doujin with a really interesting scoring system.

I have a problem with Gyrodine 3D. Border Down is cool.

Well, I love Under Defeat. Psyvariar 2 is ok, but I never dug the way the spinning+buzzing+level-up-timing thing was done. The games really are opposites though, with UD being practically a survival-only game while Psy2 is pretty much scoring-only. For bulletsploitation games, I have to go for the Takumis instead.

Both games are gorgeous imo.

+1

Under Defeat is a good game- VERY pretty.... but as far as something I'll come back to play a bunch and to master...nah. I show my friends this game- sure- but everyone that has seen it asks- "what else is there to this one?". Eh- I'm going to stick to Zero Gunner 2 :) As far as Psyvariar- I liked it- but I must also +1 the others- it's a fun little game- but really reminds me of a homebrew type thing. Just something about that game I can't *quite* put my finger on. The super duper tiny hitbox makes me feel cheap- and kind of takes away the thrill of things just a hair, too.

I agree. As much as I want to like Under Defeat, it's always struck me as bland. I like Psyvariar's bullet sprays and music a lot more too. Under Defeat has better explosions though. Also, robots are much cooler than helicopters, unless they're helicopters that turn into robots, of course.

Does anybody remember that guy who would make dozens of topics which were all like..

"Hi guys!

(very short and/or pointless question)

Thanks guys!"

Not saying the questions here were pointless. Well maybe a bit. Combined with the overall structure of the post, there is a striking resemblance.

And for the record I like both games, but I need to be in a certain mood for Psy2 whereas I can play UD almost any time.

Psyvariar 2 is like the bus stop outside the arcade in the interesting part of town. Sure it looks appealing and you'd like to go, but then you realize all that arcade has is video poker and Big Game Hunter. That and it's a short ride to the stop.

Under Defeat even if it's old school has more appeal. Not all scoring gimmicks are good or interesting.

Buzzing is one of the best scoring gimmicks. We are not talking about Chaos Field here.

Exactly. Although I should update my own post.
I think Under Defeat has more appeal, even while it's old school in gameplay. Not all scoring gimmicks are good or interesting to everyone.
Besides, I flew through P2 and was shocked at how short it was, even with buzzing. I'll say it's well executed but without any interest factor on my behalf.

Duides I try like crazy to get to Area 6 on Psyvariar 2 is it a secert level because I notice the high score on the main screen what do I do?. This is a silly question what does SKONEC's name mean anybody knows?. Last where can I get the soundtrack to this game the music is freaking awesome mixture
of Techno and Trance which I love to death.

I was addicted as soon as I saw a vid of how a person REALLY buzzes in P2. It was liked playing tetris on the old B&W gameboy as a kid. I fealt some bizzare need to get better and further. I get some sort of rush when I manage to keep myself buzzing almost all the way through a stage.

I like under defeat quite a bit for being an excellent meat and patatoes kinda game that looks great. It gets me vote for best explosions easily though out of the 2.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?
