Plok is a shmup.Rob wrote:Poor Twinbee.DJ Incompetent wrote: No you're not "shooting your fists"....jerkass...
cause you see Twinbee is also a platformer, and involves shooting fists, and plok is a platformer about shooting fists and feet, then obviously Plok is at least as much of a shmup as twinbee is, and c'mon, no one would would wanna argue twinbee isn't a shmup right?
sudoku is a shmup too.

Alright let me break it down for y'all.
SuperKilla is not all that off base. Heck compare a shmup to an older Madden Football game, first downs could be like check points in a shmup, players bullets, whatever, other then purpose and style what we do with the controller is almost exactly the same. The point is that Video Games don't change all that much, not only that but were talking about 2-D ones witch are even more basic. I say whatever we defined a game as when it first came out we should still consider it, we don't need all these definition debates all I know is I'm pressing buttons and stuff I like is happening.
And what is this Space Invaders is not a shmup shit, I bet people are saying Galaga and Tempest aren't shmups too. Let's just keep it simple folks.

Re: Beat-em up's are Shmups
I too sometimes make a thread and then while writting I then too answer my own question. Then i just not post the thread at all. Perhaps you should do the same. I dunno what all the hostility is all about. We can have crazy threads from time to time. I do have news for you though.thesuperkillerxxx wrote:The only strike is that there is no forced scrolling

it's states the game genre as shooter. I consider it a beat 'em up.
It does however have 100% true shmup stages.
I'm sure it's somewhere in this video.

Haven't checked, but it should be in there considering the length of the video. It's in the Megadrive/genesis port too!

AND (my thoughts regarding where this thread is going):
Dr. Peter Venkman: This city is headed for a disaster of biblical proportions.
Mayor: What do you mean, "biblical"?
Dr Ray Stantz: What he means is Old Testament, Mr. Mayor, real wrath-of-God type stuff.
Dr. Peter Venkman: Exactly.
Dr Ray Stantz: Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies. Rivers and seas boiling.
Dr. Egon Spengler: Forty years of darkness. Earthquakes, volcanoes...
Winston Zeddemore: The dead rising from the grave.
Dr. Peter Venkman: Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together - mass hysteria.

Your misinterpreting me. All I'm saying is that are heavy similarities between all 2-D genre's of games,I'm not saying their all shmups, just similar. I wasn't totally agreeing with Superkilla just kinda defending him because the similarities are their.PFG 9000 wrote:^^^So games really began with shmups, since Pong is obviously a shmup.
