Was Ketsui in there too? I thought it was just a non-working Dodonpachi DOJ. Anyways, Mihara really hates emulation. Before this he had Tetris Grand Master 2 removed. And before that he went apeshit on his blog over Fighting Layer being emulated, though I guess he didn't have lawyers ready so it stayed in.SFKhoa wrote:Cave might not give a shit, but Arika still do, apparently. Yeah, I read about it...probably here. I would gladly pay for a port but since it seems that a proper one won't happen anytime soon he should maybe relax a little bit.Cave might not give a shit, but Arika still do, apparently. Also, pretty sure there are a lot of people out there who got into this whole cave frenzy after playing one of the older ones emulated so being antiemulation is after all very shortsighted. Never saw a cave game in an EU arcade. Not that there are many arcades across Europe...

Notice the Flyer/Decal at the top of the pic is for Giga Wing Generations, which was in the arcade for 3 weeks before the Type X decided to blow up. The Type X was returned, the Banner remained.
There are a few in my local arcade in London. Namely Ketsui (now with a Sanwa stick in a large sit-down cab), Dodonpachi, Mushihimesama, Progear.Never saw a cave game in an EU arcade. Not that there are many arcades across Europe...

Wow. Nice selection. Last time I've been to London was late 2002. I think I've been to 2 or 3 arcades, must have been somewhere near Picadilly though I'm not so sure any more. They had a lot of fighters and light gun games but when it came to modern shooters there was only Raiden Fighters and DDP2. Btw, where is your local arcade? I guess the owner enjoys shmups also.

Its really only luck though that we still have such an arcade, it could have easily been turned into a cafe (which is another thing that John mentioned).
Problem is, arcade orientated shoot'em up players are few and far between these days. You'd be surprised at how few
. The owner also knows this, and he really only keeps it open for London's fighter players.

I'm pretty sure it's both. If you know the specifics about the TGM2 incident, you'd realise it does go beyond what affects their bottom line. It was a 5 year old game, with a sequel far surpassing it, and a well known simulator freely available (that could even simulate the sequel, for shame). To add to this, the holder of the Tetris name had been refusing to license the rights to a PS2 port for years, with no sign of that changing.GaijinPunch wrote:Don't mistake hating emulation for hating having your copyrights infringed upon. It's not like Arika's pockets are that deep.
I've got the PCB so I don't really care about getting it for free, but it's time to be emulated had come by most reasonable assessments.
...that said I can totally sympathize with protecting the sales of their Cave ports.

Bump, just for the heck of it...
Found this today, and it´s kinda old already, but what I found interesting is that the player doesn´t push a single diagonal move:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=05mS2rmJ ... ed&search=
I played Gradius via the Konami Arcade Collection for some days, and what concerns me the most about a (possible) DS port of Ketsui is the quality of the DS d-pad. I still have to test another DS Lite system, but I really have to PUNCH the pad on my system to make diagonal moves, and since it´s so unreliable I try avoid it alltogether. If this port is really happening, I might have to buy a used fat DS again.
So, any news on this matter?

Do you have any information regarding this, becuase it certainly doesn't add up.SFKhoa wrote:Cave might not give a shit, but Arika still do, apparently. First of all, there was never a Ketsui driver in MAME. I think people might be getting it mixed up with Dodonpachi II: Bee Storm, which was WIP in MAME for a short time, but dropped because at the time PGM hardware was still being used in new games, and MAME didn't want to go further with it.
But Guru is requesting someone to load a board for Ketsui so they can dump it and emulate it, so as far as I know this isn't true, or if it is, people at the center of MAME's development don't seem to be aware.

He meant DDP:DOJ. There was an intial dump of it that didn't really work that got put in mame, and they were asked to remove it.

Oh shit, I assume that is in Tottenham Hale. That is where my brother used to live. I wish I had time to visit arcades while in London last time and the only time I was there. I will definitely have to make it out for the shmup meet. I need to play this damn Ketsui every body raves about.DEL wrote:Yes you missed my local arcade that time, its called Casino Arcade and its just off the Centre on Tottenham Court Road.

No, Casino is located in London's West End next to Goodge St. Station. Tottenham Hale is located in North East London and there are no arcades there as far as I know.

i've got a Lite and so do 3 friends of mine. i've played on all 4 of those and never had any d-pad press not registering. if yours is unreliable and requires punching, then there's definitely something wrong yes. a healthy DS Lite d-pad works mighty fine for shmups, says me who just played the hell out of Recca on said DS. ^_^

Yeah, maybe there really is something wrong with my Lite. It registers unidirectional presses without problems, but diagonals are just a matter of luck to be registered. I never got the chance to compare it to other ones, only to the classic DS. I´ll check if I am still in the warranty time. I wanna be prepared if Nanostray 2 comes out!glitch wrote:still got warranty?FrederikJurk wrote:I still have to test another DS Lite system, but I really have to PUNCH the pad on my system to make diagonal moves, and since it´s so unreliable I try avoid it alltogether.

My DS Lite has behaved exactly this way too, since day one. The classic DS seems to be built with better d-pad diagonals.FrederikJurk wrote:maybe there really is something wrong with my Lite. I thought the problem lies in the non-clicky d-pads, as opposed to the ones on the DS fat or GBA SP, but the one on my Micro is pretty much the same as on the Lite, but plays a lot better. Gah, whatever.Thunder Force wrote:My DS Lite has behaved exactly this way too, since day one. I'd lay down money it's 5+. The roms aren't even unencrypted yet... w/o that, they can't even work on the driver other than based on system specs.I think it's safe to say that someday in the near future (2 or 3 years from now), we'll see Ketsui on Mame

you could definitely put that money towards a down payment on a car or house, medical expenses, baby food and clothes, etc.

umm my previous response was sarcastic..
i just dont see the point of some people always trying to fight the futile battle of telling people what they should do with their money.
if you can afford ketsui and want it, then buy it, if you rather want a macbook then buy that instead (it doesnt make you a wiser consumer).
if you dont have any clothes, got evicted, your cars empounded and you just broke your leg trying to steal food for your starving baby then i guess its time to reconcider such a purchase...

yes, spend your money as your heart is content
I like to think of forums as extended blogs
I was just stating that I'd rather not, but more power to you if you can buy it
I wouldn't have been able to play it had a friend of mine not bought it
fantastic game, really
fuck the house and cars, I'll live in a box if I can play the game at will

I doubt it. Ninjas aren't very effective when they're on crack. Speaking of crack, glad to see that a habit is mandatory to work in the japanese gaming industry if the Mihara DS news is any indication.moonblood wrote:also people trying to get ketsui closer to emulation will probably be killed by arika & cave ninjas unfortunately
