PCBs??? What?
Ok, so,
time for one of those newbie-ish questions that every board is gonna get now and then.
What I wanna know.....
......is what the heck a PCB is, exactly.
What it is, and what is required to use it, and where to get it?
Normally, I play these shmup games in one of two ways; on my PC (for a huge number of them), and some on my PS2 (like Mushihime or DoDonPachi Dai-ou-jou).
Now, finding out that apparantly Cave isnt wanting to port their games over to the PS2 much anymore (argh), apparantly the only way to play them is with these PCB thingies.
But I dont really know a dang thing about them.
Of course, the main thing that draws me into this is Mushihime-Futari's existence, and the fact that I dont own it yet. I probably wouldnt have even bothered looking into this otherwise (yet).
That, and Im a total die-hard shmup fanboy, and a total Cave fanboy as well, haha.
Anyway, any help is appreciated.
Some sort of detailed guide on this would be awesome......
This isnt something I'd be doing particularly soon, as Im aware at least of the extreme expense of these things, but it's something maybe I could do once summer ends. Maybe.......

A PCB is basically the arcade original board (Printed Circuit Board), otherwise known as a JAMMA board.
You can view a PCB as a Cartridge that can be plugged into a Supergun.
A Supergun is like a console for PCBs.
So....you need
1. A Supergun with Joystick and preferably a monitor with a Scart socket.
2. A PCB like Futari to plug into it.

it's the latest drug fad... we use em to get high and play shooters.......is what the heck a PCB is, exactly.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

Oh great, another dude with a girl's name. OK, I want to change my name to Sabrina or Maryanne or Ginger or Sillyputti or some girly-sounding name. Maybe I think I'll start dressing like a woman and flirting with men because Dad never hugged me or something. I wish I was Sailor Moon.
BTW, welcome to the Shmups forum, I guess.

It also is the term for the Brazilian Communist Party and the Pakistan Cricket Board, as Wikipedia tells me.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCB
So whats better - the circuit board of an arcade shooting game or the Pakistan cricket board? You be the judge!

Yes, I can confirm that. "Partido Comunista Brasileiro." I've worked with them in the last elections here, as I am part of PH "Partido Humanista" or humanist party and we were supporting their candidates.
We have 2 communisty parties here PCB and PC do B.
Not that anyone is interested... I just want to keep derailing the thread....

The character Bridget, whose name I am using, and who is in my avatar, is a boy.greg wrote:Oh great, another dude with a girl's name. I like the character, so Im using the name. I usually use this name.
Please dont make assumptions.
And I just hate Sailor Moon, lol. Never could stand that dang show or it's annoying characters....
And thanks all, for the info on these...... thingamabobs.
And yeah, Im perfectly aware of how much Futari costs..... Is why I wont be doing this till well into autumn
I do wish, though, that these blasted companies would port the dang games over to the PS2 more.
Not that we GET any of them here in the stupid US.
No, what we get is endless clones of GTA, because it's "kewl" *grumbles*
Well, my angry ranting aside, thanks for the help

Beh, just before I started posting here tonight,
I'd been busy freaking out at DoDonPachi Dai-ou-jou for a time, which generally had me in a bad mood.
Blast that game for being infuriating......
Playing Mushihime some brought my mood back up, though.
That, and the computer Im using tonight isnt the normal one I use...... and this thing is a TOTAL piece of crap.
So I apologize if my ramblings get a bit angered tonight.

Haha, well, there's plenty such as myself that find him way hotter as a boy than if he were a girl
The Japanese seem to like that type of character alot, the femme-boy type, and for plenty of good reason, if I say so myself. And with the way I myself am, using that name and avatar is fitting.
Besides,
It never, ever gets old, this kinda thing happens on every message board I join
Hoboy, this topic is indeed completely derailed. I got the info I needed, but....
Next thing I know, this'll go into an extremely detailed conversation about different types of cheese. Just...... because.
Haha, I just love this board already.
