I know I've not replied to everyone via PM (I've been juggling this with a ridiculously tight deadline0 but I just wanted to say a big thanks for all the help and support you've given me.
I know I'll probably get some people's backs up with my definition of a shmup, but it's nice to know that so many of you were willing and able to help me out with all the nagging questions i've been asking you over the last few weeks.
Right, just have to write the damn thing now
Thanks guys

Just go with "2D-Gameplay Auto-Scroll Shooters" and you'll do fine.

I knew use of the term "anti-gravity" would be contested. It sounds way cooler.
Auto-scroll goes away. Atomic Runner vs. Fantasy Zone.

The overwhelming majority of "our kind" of shooters do auto-scroll. Games that don't are either an exception or evolutionary ancestors.

If this keeps up, the Space Harrier, the ship from Galaxy Force, The ships from Tac-Scan, and the cast of various other pseudo 3D games will be joining us shortly.

I guess this addition, while true of all shmups, doesn't really serve to rule much of anything out that isn't already ruled out by appeal to gravity and auto-scroll.

Looking at that quote pyramid gave me the mood to play some Galaxy Force.

More controversy: auto-scroll is 2D "on-rails" (OMG I can't take it!)
It's just you, also.
