The Car Thread

Post by EOJ »

So what's your ride?

I just got a 1996 Nissan Maxima SE a few weeks ago. I really love it, maximas are my favorite cars (my previous car was a 1993 Maxima GXE).
I frequent forums.maxima.org quite a bit.

Anyway, use this thread to discuss all things automotive. :D

A car takes you from point A to B.
That's it purpose.
I've got an old VW Golf 3 that I got a bit cheaper then my Egret 2 :)
I don't care about cars but I wouldn't want a very old car where you need to have the radio on to avoid going mad of the engine sounds.
All errors are intentional but mistakes could have been made.

I have deep passion for cars. My other main hobby.

Currently I have:

2003 Sonic Blue Mustang GT 5-speed
1990 White/black top Mustang GT convertible
(my wife is drive the 2003 Focus)

I used to be deep into Thunderbird SC's -
My best one was my 1994 Moonlight Blue SC 5-speed
I placed 2nd in the MN12 nationals in 2002 and was the Super Coupe Champion in 2003 at the Morana V6 Challenge. A dissapointing showing in 2003 at the Carlisle Nationls was most devistating and I had retired the car
I also owned other Super Coupes from a 1989 XR7, 1993 AOD, and my first - a 1990 Red SC 5-speed.
I was an active member of the SCCoA and also still visit the forums at the Thunderbird Underground.

My (former)championship SC
Image

I have now made the switch to Mustangs and am currently seeking a 2003/04 Cobra.
Image

Also for a family car I desire a nice BMW M5 model 2000 and up

2006 Ford Focus ZX3

Great little 2-door hatchback with good gas mileage and a good sound system. (MP3 compatable 6-CD player!)

Oh, and it's a blast to drive as well.

someday i wouldn't mind driving around a silvia, watching the d1gp makes you want one. s14 or s15.. here in the states we're limited, we can get an s14 and outfit it to look like an s15..

Bought a Honda Pilot brand new when I moved to Hawaii. Biggest waste of money I've ever spent. Had about 30 miles when I bought it, 6600 when I sold it (2 years and 2 months later).

My new rides(s):
Main: <-- one of 3 bikes in the whole fucking country that fit me.

For rainy days, or when I'm too loaded:

And let's not forget:

Props to bay for knowing how to dress and looking like a well-kept man. Seems it's always a crap shoot when someone from the internet posts a picture of themselves.

My current ride: a beater '84 Toyota Camry with a trunk that won't open (got rear-ended on the freeway about five years ago), a drivers side window that only opens if completely dry (and that's after I jury-rigged it to do so after the mechanism broke) a hole in the exhaust, an automatic oil change (which is a nice way to say that it burns oil,) over 222k miles on the odometer (in fact, just about a month ago I got a picture of when the odometer hit 222,222.2 miles.) missing door trim on one side, increasing amounts of rust, a key broken off in the ignition and ripped-up upholstery. In spite of all this, it just keeps running, otherwise I would have replaced it years ago (this is my first car, which I bought fdor $2,000 and I've driven it for almost 10 years now.) I don't have any pics right offhand, but I can post some later. I think I'll probably be replacing it sometime in the near future though, so I can take girls out on dates without the need to provide a paper bag with eye holes...

Most likely replacement: a 2007 Volkswagen Rabbit (AKA Golf.) I'm trying to save a down payment for a new car now, and this seems the most likely candidate I've looked at so far. I've also looked at the Mazda 3, although the insurance is surprisingly expensive on those.
We want you, save our planet!

1992 Sc/ed Vette, autocrossing 2k MX-5, 82 Vette 30k miles- sold/lost (in a fire) everything but the Miata- going to sell that soon. too- looking at a 1098s to replace my 636 :) too many toys, not enough time. You figure- if someone works 80 hours a week to get money to pay for things, when is there time to actually use the things that get paid for? : P

Nice cars bay. I actually used to drive the same model FC when I first got my license a few years ago.

Looking at purchasing an Mazda RX-7 FD sometime soon.

FDs are nice... gotta finish up with the FC first... it is in pieces on the garage floor. i'm in the middle of a motor swap (rear rotor is blown), dropping an s5 block with a haltech or wolf3d.

any more rotorheads?

Some of us wish that was a reasonable option. ;) Public transit really, really sucks in most of the US.

My thoughts exactly, which explains why I drive a Toyota Corolla. It's a great car for people who don't give a rat's ass about cars.

Rotary FTW! I'd have bought me a FC long time ago as a first car (loving them since I first sat in one) but with no people around who know anything about the engines it's hard to keep 'em running.

lol...and the purpose of a supercharger is to have alot more fun doing point a- point b. Yeah, it is silly money- but if you want to make comparisons- I like these kinds of toys (even thought yes- it IS silly money) and I love R-Type and Salamander over Radiant Silvergun, Ketsui, Batsugun, etc. Everybody has their own little cup of tea. I do sometimes wish that I could be content driving something more affordable- I'm a little jealous of ppl that don't have car payments or stupid insruance rates : D

'96 BMW Z-3, blue.

3rd-hand hand-me-down from a family that likes to drive BMW and Benz, so I can't really complain, but I'd have been happy with a Corolla :p I am definitely not a car enthusiast, though it's nice not having payments but my insurance kills me.
It's covered with a thick layer of tree pollen since I haven't driven it for almost a month.

My new ride that I am very happy with:

It is SLOW and I love it to bits. Just look at the gear ratio!

Lately it's been all public transit for me though. I would take my little bike with me, but the rear tire is so enormously wide that it won't fit on the bike racks. I hate walking, even for 10 minutes.

I really like walking, weather permitting. I used to walk to work at my old job whenever it was decent outside. It took about 20-25 minutes, as opposed to a 2 minute drive. It woke me up in the morning and let me wind down after work (I sit in a cubicle programming all day). I'm close enough to my current job to walk there, but there's no sidewalks and I don't trust cars and semis, especially on bridges.
