Garegga bootleg :(

Post by Geezer »

I'm totally unimpressed with ECL, this piece of shit arrived yesterday and is an obvious bootleg. They've been in the PCB business for years so they really ought to know what a Garegga PCB looks like.

The board itself:

Some pics of the PCB in action:

To top it all off, the PCB outputs no sound and doesn't recognise any inputs. It looks like ECL just recieved it, slapped their warranty sticker on it and sold it to me, without bothering to check it even works or inform me it was a bootleg.

Good times

Btw, an original board should look like this:

NEW PART 2 TURBO EDITION - THE NEW GALEGGA CHALLENGERS!

sorry to hear of that, i don't deal with ECL without picture confirmation for their pcbs.

i picked up a garegga last month, cool game. only had played it for like 15 minutes on a saturn prior.

on a side note, collection of bootlegs are pretty cool if you're into that sorta stuff. dumping the roms and analyzing the code, if its the same, and the chipsets on the board to see if they are using some FPGA or other chips to emulate the original Uproc..

too bad the inputs aren't working.. or sound... dang. you should look at getting this fixed cause i doubt ECL is going to entertain a return to any sort of benefit to you.

By picking up bootlegged Batsugun PCB, one will definitely see an "un-keyed" Jamma edge connection interface + no confirmation of "Made in Japan Toaplan (C) 1992" printed directly anywhere on such PCB. Some Korean produced bootlegged Batsugun PCBs run the original JPN Bios setup + "Licensed for use in Korea" notice in main copyright screenshot of said arcade shmup title. ^_~

As always, ask for a JPEG or some JPEGs of the respective arcade PCB before shelling out your hard-earned $$$...will save you a lot of heartache & grief in the long run when it comes to dealing with such rare arcade shmup PCB titles such as Battle Garegga and/or Batsugun PCBs, etc. ^_~

It's recommended that one knows the difference between such an original & bootlegged version of the respective arcade PCB before making such expensive splurge... ^_~

Get "burned" once by purchasing such a "bootlegged" PCB will force the unsuspecting arcade PCB gamer to seek out such original arcade PCB version -- always settle for original JPN Bios versions of said arcade PCBs, accept no crappy substituted "bootlegged" PCBs whatsoever! Just be prepared to "bite the bullet and pay through the nose" for such original JPN Bios version as it will be worth the high monetary cost incurred for such PCB..... ^_~

I will definitely be more careful in future. Depending on how ECL deal with this problem, I may never deal with them again :?

that sucks, i fucking hate bootlegs.. but the hack is kinda cool on the other hand.. any differences in gameplay etc?

you should demand a new original board, ECL arent impossible in that regard..

Just FYI the patch wire is there to supply video ground.

Have you tried the different dipswitches? Can you get into the operator menu? I'm really curious what is different about this bootleg.

I'm going to try messing around with it a bit more tonight to see if I can get it to work. I'll report back with my findings 8)

I'm going to try and send it back for a refund/exchange for a legit one. If they can't find one I'll just swap it for Batrider and stick with the Saturn version of Garegga.

ECL have agreed to refund me, I just need to send it back. I'm going to post it on Monday so I'll have time to check what the dip switches do over the weekend.

I made a slight mistake earlier by saying it refuses to recognise inputs. It doesn't respond to pushing the credits button, if I can somehow work out how to set it to freeplay it should be alright.

Thats good to hear, as ECL have been pretty good to me before, although I was surprised that they sold bootleggs without telling people, that is poor business practice....
