Sure they've been around for eons, but nobody ever really talks about them. Hell, bots don't even spam them. I wonder why that is? ..besides...the whole..."they're targeting the braindead"..thing
When they started appearing back in years ago, I went to set that stuff up, found out nothing I was reading at the time offered them, then forgot about it. A week or so ago I revisited setting things up.
Things have improved.
So do you hit-up the RSS and let the tubes come to you? Or do you go to the tubes?
Where do you guys subscribe to anyway? xml links ForTheWin

Put me firmly in the "don't get it" category. Back when I first heard of them the impression I got was that it was some kind of news ticker-tape that would run constantly in the corner of your screen. After a quick look at the Wiki entry, I guess it's more like an inbox-style format that queues up an alert every time a site you subscribe to posts an update. If I'm close with the latter then it seems like a lot more hassle than just browsing the website. If you're subscribed to frequently updated feeds that you only have intermitent interest in, then I imagine you could quickly find yourself having to wade through hundreds of unsorted update entries.
Is any of this sounding familiar, or have I completely failed to grasp what RSS is?
I use RSS and I feel it is a lifesaver. I think I have about 18 sites I use it for. Really cool you can get updates without giving out your email, etc.
RSS was something I stumbled upon back in (I think) 2005 and thought it was one of the best ideas out there, but back then not too many major sites had a feed. Things have changed a bit since then, haven't they? Damn near every component of every site, forum, wiki has at least one RSS feed now.
Although I do like the ease of using an RSS reader, I still like to manually browse sites most of the time.
Using RSS since 2005 as well. Saves me trouble of checking each site for updates manually, which is very important for sites offering wanted and/or rarely updated content, like new releases of certain software products (I'm subscribed to the updates of Opera, DeSmuME, Miranda, etc.). As for game-related sites, I'm subscribed to SuperPlay!, TASvideos, and SDA, as well as Royalflare.net — the Japanese Touhou replay uploader I get all my high score information from.

Theres no way I could keep up on gaming industry news without my feeds. Theres simply no way. It takes at least an hour or two a day even to clear them out (I get over 1000 new feeds a day).
I use Google Reader. I'm not sure if I could live without my feeds. How would I know everything that happens in the gaming world without them? I'm not sure how many I have.. but its at least 100, if not more.
You can even get feeds for specific searches on Ebay and Yahoo Japan auctions. I've found a couple good buys that way.
I've got RSS feeds set up for the Blogs I read on my Outlook here at work, but when I'm at home I usually just go to sites. Most of the Blogs on my RSS feeds are infrequently updated, so it's easier to catch updates that way.
I use Smart Bookmarks in firefox to quickly browse the top stories on the blogs and news sites that I reed, and also have Liferea constantly updating to check a few select feeds, mostly my Facebook/Flickr updates and stuff like that. Personally I think it's great to be able to quickly browse through information without all the graphics-heavy stuff.
We here shall not rest until we have made a drawing-room of your shaft, and if you do not all finally go down to your doom in patent-leather shoes, then you shall not go at all.
