? don't you have a 200M+ score in DDPDOJ? You should be kicking this games' ass all over town. BTW: keeping that doj highscore thread a top 10 only is total BS...I'll never make it in there!
Well, that's pretty good after like 1 day of play.

Anyhoo, new score lol.

I don't chain... I abuse the max bomb bonus!
Lost about 10 bombs on this run though. T_T

Finally...

Post by jeremycarrier »

I've been waiting for this day. 2(1/2) years of weekend nights spent playing DDP on MAME...and I FINALLY broke the 100+ million mark

Note: I have NO IDEA why my intials are messed up. This is been happening for all of my MAME roms for awhile. Its quite annoying. My intials(if you are interested) are JPC, hence my username is just my first and last name(easy to remeber).

http://img124.imageshack.us/img124/8274/ddon0005hl0.png

Lengthy post ahoy!

When I first discovered DDP, I couldn't believe it. How could an arcade game be this damn good? It had the perfect challenge in my eyes: easy to get into, very very hard to master(which honestly, I don't think I ever will). Its strangely addictive. That feeling you get when you dodge and weave through a giant maze of bullets, twisting your body along with the ship, is simply incredible.

At first, I merely enjoyed playing the game. I used A-S(which is still my favorite to just mess around with) and just blasted anything and everything that got in my way. As my helpers twirled around in thier psuedo 3d blur effect ways, I felt the power that this one Raiden-like ship was causing; single handingly turning the tide of a futurstic war.

The more I played, the better I got. I started to get mad when I had to resort to using a bomb, and I constantly restarted the game because some pink bullet wanted to home in on my hitbox. Frustrating, but still fun in a different way. I learned the patterns, I visited this website(lurking FTW), I looked at guides(Bernard Doria, your guide is perfection), I watched videos(Big ups to AST-BR1, I studied your video religiously almost); anything I could to get better. I learend the positves of using certain ships with certain shot types. I memorized the time and what places I had to do to get chains(although honestly, I'm not that great at combos. The highest I ever got I think is around 500+). This was proberly one of my most dedicated games I have ever attempted, right alongside Ninja Gaiden Black and Time Crisis 2 & 3.

I not done with DDP; far from it! I will attempt to reach 120 million, because I see it can be done. Don't know how anyone gets 150 million...that just seems impossible. Anything over 200 million is...you must be a robot or something. I can't fanthom just how you can get that dang good.

I will also attempt a video recording. It seems everytime I put on the recording on something like WolfMAME, I mess up terribly. I completly break chains and miss alot of bonuses. I plan to overcome that sooner rather than later.

In conclusion, I have to thank everyone who has ever posted a strat, video, or guide. Trust me, I've seen them all pretty much :)

JPC 107299010 C-S 2-5 413 (I'm really dissapointed on my max hit :( )

possibly the wrong place for this, but anybody else completely confused about the story in this game? I always wanted to ask that. I've been killing my own men? Fierce Fier Power? Killing tens of thousands of people without noticing it was your own guys? WTF!? That was some wacky stuff.

When the general was like "psych!" and said "See you in Hell!" I couldn't stop laughing the first time I saw it.

Oh yeah, I find it lollish too. But the second loop is your revenge, or something like that :P

Yeah, I know you're not suppose to take shooters' stories seriously, but that always struck me as odd. I like how the pilot at the end was kinda like "Well, look on the bright side...no more overpopulation of immigrants!"

Welcome Jeremy! All I can saw is WOW. 2 & 1/2 years of dedication to DoDonPachi and you've never posting anything on this forum until April Fools day, with a 100M+ score no less? Also strange how your initials don't come out. Thats enough to make people question your score...but I know its completely possible. A wolfmame replay would be best if you can manage it. I have the same problem where I have great strategies for each boss and level chaining, but can't seem to string them all together into one complete run without seriously screwing it up somewhere early. Hope to come back to DDP soon and give it another shot.

That's why I haven't added jeremycarrier's score, because it seems dubious to me that it would obscure your initals, but not the others below #1 spot?

Yeah, I think its pretty strange...I need to do something about that.

I'm been trying all night to get back to that score. I got the rest of the day off, wish my luck!

Also, the reason that I never posted on these boards is because I never got around to getting a real email. I tried signing up with Gmail and Yahoo, but it wouldn't let me. I knew that I had to post up this score, so I used my dad's email.

Don't be afraid to post your scores & replays leading up to 100M. At least we can get a sense of your ability/strategy. Also try downloading the latest wolfmame to fix that weird problem with the initials.

Well after spending more time today then I care to admit(about 12 hours...don't make fun of me and my lack of spending time wisely >_< ), I came close to my origanal score of 107 million.

Here the scoreboard, WITH my intials clearly visable this time(JPC)

http://img133.imageshack.us/my.php?imag ... 011ki3.png

http://img133.imageshack.us/img133/1766/ddon0011ki3.png (If that link doesn't work for some odd reason)

That max hit is SO embrassing  Its really irritates me that I forget to laser this tank, or forget to delay killing everyone at once...ugh. EASILY let a chain upwards of 500 get away from me on 1-6.

I'm a maximum bomb whore by the way. I love to abuse that little bonus, so I train myself that after I get the bomb on 1-2, I don't use one until 1-5. I tried that on the second loop, to no avail. Its funny: I'm pretty calm on the first round, but I lost a life on 2-1 almost immediately from carelessness

Overall, I'm pretty happy with that run. I know I can do alot better, esciapply on chains(seriously, I suck at linking combos).

I plan on staying around this forum for awhile. One of the reasons I didn't join before is because you guys have ALL these games from Japan and such, and while I would like to buy a Japanese PS2 and import some games, I just don't have the money for that. What I wouldn't do to get my hands on DDP DOJ... :)

How did you get a score like that with such a low chain, no no-miss bonus on 2-1 and area reached only 2-4? You must´ve kept you maximum bomb bonus (no missed/no bombed) well into 1-6 or you´re just bloody good with the green ships on stage 3 and 2-3.

Either way; good job! I´m getting reaquainted with the game in MAME, it´s a bit harder than the saturn-version.

I had a several 350 chains here and there, plus I had the maximum bomb bonus up until the boss on 1-5. I was at the boss on 2-4 untill those damn missles start exploading on my ass. He had like...10 pixels of health left too...

shoe-sama - 33'228'400 - C-L - 1-6 - 173

First run where I got X4 max. I lost a few seconds later though. >_>

I've been exploring A-L lately. It seems that sweeping the screen with laser is a pretty good strat for most of 1-5 and 1-6 (my bombfest stages). Of course, there's no reason why B-L and C-L can't do the same.

I think its easier to go with C-S for survival really

but A-L got good style ;D and scores well, which is what we're aiming for anyway

I have problems with the 3rd and 4th boss with C-S though XD

When you're a max bonus abuser like me, any advantage rocks.

I might switch to A-L if I can figure out the stage 2 chain with it though. There's 1 point where it's guaranteed to break off and 2 iffy break points for me right now.

I can make you a replay of me chaining stage 2 with A-L if you want, using wolfmame for example.

That would be helpful, even though I don't even care about chains half the time XD. I should stop being a lazy bastard and watch some replays though, since I haven't bothered checking any recently.

After trying C-S, I kicked butt. Lots of it. Wtf free stage 5 200+ chains OMGWOAHZ. Then I died with max bombs twice in stage 6 =X. I was way too psyched up by then and kept going OMFG THIS IS SO EASY TO DODGE

shoe-sama - 38'292'860 - C-S - 1-6 - 228

Might be able to reach the 50M req for the loop.

I'm telling ya, C-S is the only reason for my decent chains. Free 350 chains here and there + Max Bomb bonus through most of the first loop = 100 million. Honestly, I'm not all that great at DDP, but those two factores lead to the score I can get today.

Here is the replay, recorded with wolfmameplus 99 :
http://www.mediafire.com/?03mdk23idbm => emulator + input file, compressed with 7-zip (needed to unpack).
http://www.mediafire.com/?9zhnzngignr => input file alone.

and I actually did a high score at the same time so... ;D

PROMETHEUS - 99.571.760 - A-L - 2-4 - 488

area 1 / 2 / 3 chains, and like half of area 4 chain :p the rest is random --a

Do one of the following:

1. Don't lose more than two fighters (lives).
2. Depending on the fighter used, have a maximum hit count of at least the following:
Type A: 270 hits
Type B: 300 hits
Type C: 330 hits
3. Score at least 50 million points.
4. Collect all thirteen bees in four of the six areas.

Honestly, use Type C with shot type. Chaining stages become really easy.

Also, great replay there Pro! So close to 100 million >_< I never really got around to getting really good with A-L, although it suppose to be the best ship.

Wow, pretty nice job with that score. I suppose I'll check out the replay now. It'll be interesting to see how A-L works out at the level of play you're at.

Man, I'm pretty wimpy compared to everyone getting these awesome 100M+ scores.
