RQ: Levelling weapons in Radiant Silvergun

How does the weapon levelling up work in RSG? I am assuming that the Weapon Levels A, B, and C, are my main weapons. How does that apply to the other three weapons?(The ones that use combination buttons). Also, how do you level them up the fastest? I'm really enjoying the game, and I just want to know more of the kinks of how it works.
