As sven said, but i chose the Japanese version because -
wikipedia wrote:The Japanese version has more content than the European and American versions, here are some of the differences.
The Japanese version has a more advanced options screen.
The Japanese versions has a real ending sequence that brings conclusion to the story.
Neither of these reasons really matter and any version can be used for this thread. Honestly i just prefer the name Aleste over Space Megaforce - which sounds cool too but you know... purist and yadda yadda.

*edits* - adds seperate scoring section for short game mode ^__^

Cool. Just wanted to make sure. I was almost certain the two were the same game, but I wasn't positive if there were any major scoring differences. So, here's my first score...

I assume this thread is intended for "Normal" difficulty...methinks it might get more activity if you included some of the other difficulty settings, since the game isn't very challenging, and not intended to be played for score in the first place (can you infinitely milk bosses?).

Still doesn't stop it from appearing in my personal Top 25 though. :)

Cool, I might submit something.

Not to be a pest, but there are two other difficulties available ("Tricky" and "Wild," IIRC) which add in suicide bullets...also, the "short game" can be played on all 5 difficulty settings, in the same manner as the full game. In case the first post isn't crowded enough already, you might want to add those. ;)

OMG  lol

I just thought the other two version where easier than normal modes since they appear before default on the options menu. They are also written in Japanese so i didn't really know what the names where.

Heh, yeah, quite a few seem unaware that "Normal" is the easiest difficulty that the game offers...apologies for gumming up the gears so much, heh heh.

I'm out of time right now and i'm not sure where in line the tricky and wild modes you mentioned go. When i get home later i can load up the U.S. version to see the differences and make amendments... until now at least it's more thorough than before

A few entires to start, I'll have to delve into the tougher settings some other time:

Normal Difficulty:

Full Game: BulletMagnet - 6,613,050 - All

Short Game: BulletMagnet - 1,347,150 -All

Hard Difficulty:

Short Game: BulletMagnet - 1,205,580 - All

I made several dumb mistakes along the way in all the above runs which cost me a few points...I wonder if it's possible to make 7 million in the normal game. I also discovered that, at least on some bosses, you cannot milk infinitely and they will time out. Not sure if that's the case with all of them though.

I'll guarantee it. There were a few areas I botched, so I wound up just missing it.

Edit: The Coop - 7,200,970 - All (Normal)

RFP - 2 257 080 - 5 (Normal)

Old score but figured can post it up.
How anyone can survive Stage 5 without bombing is beyond me. I never found a single weapon that's helpful there, but then again I never played much.

Also, what the hell is up with Break Time...

I actually rather like the Power shot in that stage, since it can go through walls and nail enemies before you could otherwise get to them...the Circle can do this too, to a more limited extent (just be careful that they don't kill the tunneler bots before they dig you a passageway). The MDS and multiple shot aren't bad choices either, since they can shoot in multiple directions and get enemies hiding in various passageways.

That one's a question for the ages.

Great score Coop: looks like I have a new goal. :)

So, 6 3 4 & 1 respectively?

EDIT: It's also worth noting this game destroys retinas.

Heh heh, I recall one review which called some of the backgrounds "visual LSD" or something along those lines.

I used the homing laser as much as possible the whole way through. I really prefer the default shot though but it's just not as safe.

I've had this game a long time, it'll be fun to play all the different modes for score. To start off:

ED-057 - 6,300,970 - All - hyper

The 2 shot... if you switch it into it's second mode the middle shot turns yellow and starts homing in on your enemies at breakneck speeds. It's an awesome weapon and once your around level 6 in power it really starts tearing things up.

The homing laser is my prefered weapon as well. At level 6 you get two blue forward shots and two yellow homing shots, one from the front and one from the rear. Pressing the L or R trigger should allow you to switch from weapon modes.

The laser is good for getting used to the game, and I used it a lot for quite awhile myself, but at this point I honestly find it on the weak side...on the harder difficulty levels this becomes even more of a liability. Still not a bad all-around weapon, but not the balance-breaking uber-weapon that some claim it is.
Homing Laser? What on earth are you talking about...
This might be part of your problem...were you aware of the L/R function? Depending on the weapon, in some cases pressing it switches your shots between two or more different "modes," while in others holding it down can have different effects. Mess around with it, it adds even more variety to the game.
