My Fangame: PW RUSH

Post by RisanF »

Hi, I'm RisanF, and I confess I'm not much of a shmup fan. Though I respect them (they tend to have good music), play them (Gradius minigame in Mystical Ninja rocks), it's generally not my cup o' tea, for reasons that may be pointless to discuss with hardcore fans of the genre. So why am I here? Because I have ulitized TGF to make my own shooter fangame that I would like to share with you all.

This is a demo for PW Rush, a game that combines shooter aspects with the theme of the NES game "Adventures of Lolo," a game that is almost the anti-shmup. In PW Rush, you play as Lolo, and blast enemies with your eggifying Magic Shots to build up power for your special PW abilities. It's a pretty tame, easy-going game, so don't be expecting a seizure-inducing onslaught of enemies. I guess the best thing to compare it with are the segments in Kirby games where Kirby goes flying off into space of content with some super bad dude.

There are currently three different versions available of the demo. The first pits you against an onslaught of Snakeys with only one PW ability. The second definentely overshadows the first by giving you three PW Abilities, along with two secret codes that are revealed by playing. The third throws Snakeys, Gols, Leapers, and Skulls at you, and has a different secret code in place of the codes in the second version.

Also, there are a few glitches in the game that I should inform you about. The game is still quite enjoyable in spite of these, but it's best if you about PW Rush's little quirks:

1. The energy bars do not usually register the correct amount of energy left.
2. If you try to use your PW while firing a Magic Shot, you'll blow your PW meter without anything to show for it. Similarly, if you try PW while sleeping, the same effect will take place.

That's it. Come on, and give it a shot!

V1: The game is easy to pick up, but gets a bit repetitive after a while.
V2: The hammer was very funny :D
V3: More variation, but also much harder lol. I can't survive for very long here, without a lot of practice.

I'm not familiar with this genre, but it's very easy to get into, and the gimmicks are great :)

BTW, what does PW stand for? (power?)

Hmmm... why an installer? My advice, for indie stuff drop it. Anyway, I still tried to install it, changed it to a different directory and was told "Invalid Directory". I didn't bother after that, but I'll certainly try it if you just zip it up rather than what you've got now.
