Forgotten Worlds (MD JP) Weirdness

Post by Ceph »

I recently got a copy of Forgotten Worlds which seems to have a weird bug: I start the game, the opening is shown, then the screen goes black for half a second and then the "Game Over" screen comes up - unfortunately I don't get any game in between. I'm playing this on my PAL Mega Drive with region switch and 50/60hz selector. I also tried playing the game with Magic Key III in case this is some sort of weird region protection, to no avail. The result is always the same, no matter which setting I use. The attract mode works fine, by the way, and the game seems to run normally.

Has anyone else experienced this or is my cart faulty?

Magic 8-ball says "outlook not so good".

I have this exact arrangement, and mine works fine.

Edit: actually - I remember some weirdness in /some/ games with aftermarket (and/or 6 button) pads. Does that apply to you?

If you have a 6-button pad, you have to hold down the mode button before turning on the game (the button along the top side of the pad). The glitch you have is caused by the pad being in 6-button mode.

Yes! You guys are great! I'm always playing my MD with a 6-button pad because it's one of the best pads ever made, in my opinion. Holding down the mode button did the trick. Thanks a lot!
