SMB Lost Levels Famicom Mini for GBA
SMB Lost Levels Famicom Mini for GBA
I have had Lost Levels unlocked on my SMB DX cart for a long time (which is renamed to "SMB For Super Players"). But it only has 8 levels. For anyone who owns the Famicom mini GBA cart: I'd assume obviously it has all 9 levels but does it also have the A-D worlds? And are they easier to access than on the Fami rom (I read you have to beat the game 8 times before A-D can be accessed)?

If the Famicom Mini version is the original Famicom game stuffed on a GBA cart, you can bet you'll have to beat the game 8 times in order to access Worlds A-D (and most likely it is, a pain in the ass yes, but keeps one playing).
I save stated on the original SMB LL Famicom, that way in case things didn't save after beating it, I believe you had to be hardcore and go through 8 times without stopping, I'd always start with one extra star on the title screen each time. It's believed the worlds A-D are on SMBDX, but the only way to access them is through a cheat device, the worlds aren't finished and there are no enemies so to speak, the game is impossible to beat in these 'extra' stages.

Thanks, Bloodreign. Here is what someone on TNL posted from a faq on the GBA rev:
I think after I get a little extra money I'll track down the GBA cart since it'd look gorgeous on my SP 2.
Interesting info on A-D apparently being on the DX cart though unfinished. It's a shame they didn't go ahead and just stuff all 9 worlds and A-D on it. So I guess instead of it being a matter of space on the cart (as speculated elsewhere) this may indicate it was due to a deadline.
My brother in law enjoyed playing the Lost Levels on my SMB DX cart so much that I bought him his own copy of the game and unlocked the extra stages for him.
That doesn't clarify though if you have to beat it 8 times in one sitting or if it's saved to the GBA cart's flash allowing you to get 8 stars gradually over time (please let this be the case)"After the ending is over, the game will save, and the screen will show a box
with Japanese text telling you that the game was saved. Press B, and either one
of two things will happen. If you beat this game without warping, you'll be
taken to World 9 with one life, and beating 9-4 will take you to 9-1. If you
warped, even once, you'll return to the title screen. You'll likely notice that
there is a star flashing next to the "Super Mario Bros. 2" logo: This
represents how many times you have beaten the game. You can get up to 24 stars.
Once you get 8 or more stars, hold B and press Start to start on World A-1!"

Awesome. Thanks for the info, Cecil. I will definitely track down the GBA cart then. My only other question is to get a star, I assume you have to beat the game without continuing?CecilMcW00t wrote:The GBA port is worth every penny. And yes, the game data is saved to flash so you don't have to do it in one sitting.

OK, Saturday I finally beat "Super Mario Brothers For Super Players" on my SMB DX cart. The same day my Famicom Mini SMB2 arrived which was a nice treat.

As you can see, it came in a slick little box. Excellent port which looks great on my SP2. Gotta love the enhanced jumps and ability to play as Luigi. FYI for those that don't know, the higher jumps were taken out of the SMB DX rev along with no Luigi, no graphical quirks such as faces on the mushrooms and clouds ect. And now I can look forward to unlocking world 9 (someday, ha)
It cost me though. $42. But so far it's well worth it to have a legit copy of the game in its original form. Unless some cosmic force occurs and this is released on both Japanese and U.S. Wii VC for $5-6. But we all know that isn't likely to happen anytime soon.
Thanks to Cecil for recommending it.

Re:
Is it me or the continue function doesn't save your lives? I used the koopa trick at 1-1 but whenever I save on a certain world, I'm back to regular x3.CecilMcW00t wrote:You can continue (thank gawd), but I personally didn't warp. I'm not sure if warping is allowed or not. Maybe I can test that out...
