Need a PS to DB-15 converter

Post by Ganelon »

I just purchased a Sigma supergun with DB-15 inputs and JAMMA kick harness. Is anybody able to create a DB-15 to PlayStation converter (perhaps 2 of them)? Specifically, I'd like the following mapping (designed around an HRAP2 layout):

Output button - PS button
1 - square
2 - triangle
3 - R1
4 - X and L1 (this way, I can easily play both SNK and Capcom games on an HRAP2)
5 - circle
6 - R2
Start - Start
Coin - Select

IINM, Sigmas use a standard JAMMA with kick harness setup; there may be a pinout somewhere. I know an existing Neo Geo to PS converter exists (such as the one at Tototek) but which only maps 4 buttons and has too short of a DB-15 port to work on superguns without an extender. It may not be that hard switching the wires around, but I don't feel comfortable doing it.

If you could let me know whether you're able to create this converter (or 2 of them), and if so, how long it would take and how much it would cost, I'd be grateful. Let me know if you have any questions.

Also, Sigma may have their own PS to DB-15 converters as well (and I now realize that the latest Sigmas with the 12-pin controllers definitely have readily available PS converters as well, which won't work with DB-15). If anyone can procure these converters, I'll happily purchase 2 of those.

EDIT: Changed the title to reflect the actual order of conversion

Thanks, but as I mentioned, that converter only supports 4 buttons. It should be easy for somebody to rewire it though.

Sorry, should have read further, are these the same ones Twe has?

Thats the problem, on a NEO you only need the four buttons, but with a supergun you might play a fighter (SF) and need all six, i see your point.

On the old Shmups.com forum, I had Matt mod a 3rd-party Kiki gamepads (Sega Saturn knock-off gamepads) that were mapped out for 6-button gameplay for use with his Supergun setup (DB-15 ouput setup) so I could play a 6-button setup of American Sammy's Daioh PCB with buttons 4, 5, & 6 mapped to a custom-made kick-harness. Works like a charm, indeed. ^_~

Too bad Matt wasn't around, he would gladly offer his services to help you out..... ^_~

I was going to offer to pick one up for you but I just realized you have an AV6000. Theoretically, the easiest way would be to buy the cable for use w/ the AV7000, rip off the end, test the leads, and solder it into a DB-15 connector. The Sigma controllers have no programmer in them.

The other option is to buy a DB-15 connector, a 13-pin female DINN connector, some cable, figure out the leads, and make a little converter. This is probably the easiest to do, although soldering to a DINN connector is indeed a challenge.

Yeah, it also doesn't help that the PS uses a decoding algorithm to separate the data from its 9 pins to determine button presses. I'm assuming that's why nobody has jumped on this thing yet, since IINM, it'll actually involve some programming work on the part of the converter.

Also, wow, I just looked into that PS converter for the AV7000 again and it seems that's for using the 9000TB on a PS (as opposed to using a PS controller on the Sigma). Looks like I'm totally out of it. I'm guessing 8000TB sticks (new or used) aren't readily available anywhere in Japan, or at least for under $160 shipped out?

Cheapest/best option would be to either buy a pad or stick modded for 6 button use from D-lite (www.multimods.com) or have someone mod a DC agetech stick for 6-button supergun use. Tons of people have one of these two setups or something similar (I'd bet most superguns are used to play fighting games, after all), you should really poke around the neo-geo.com or shoryuken.com forums if no one here will help out.

Wait... you wanted to use your PS pad on the supergun?

Yeah, sorry, poor sentence structure there, GP. I was looking for a PS-to-DB15 converter. To use an HRAP2 on the thing.

I really don't want to use a pad although the modded DC stick seems like a good option once switched with Seimitsu parts; hell, I'm pretty sure I could do it myself (just rip the DC port off and connecting the wires to the DC-15 pins, eh?). However, how do people do the coin button? Cut one up?

The only supergun I've seen in real life uses Mas sticks, which just aren't for me. What I have learned though is that PS-to-DB15 converters can't be found anywhere (including at Neo-Geo and SRK).
