sorry for the OT, but this seems a good place to ask - some months ago someone was working on translating an old/short interview with iso. has it ever been posted anywhere? (i tried the search engine, but that thing hates me). if not, its okay, i just had to ask.

..

anyway, i imagine this is common knowledge, so apologies in advance for wasting precious forum space . . .

a) iso did have the record for mushi's original mode for ahwile (jan.05)
b) one of his first arcadia submission was for mr. driller (you know, everybody's favorite non-shmup)
c) he used to use the prefix 9wp (like hige-sadam, of SNSII fame)
d) "currently" he's the only player to hold a country-wide record on a cave, a r8zing, a psikyo, and a takumi shooter (not that is matters)
e) "lately" it seems he has been "branching out" to fighters as well (MVS breakers, hokuto no ken, ..)
f) every now and then he submits scores as zna (there seems to be a pattern to this habit, but i dont want to bore you with the details)
g) doing a google search using ISO and DOJ is quite interesting (not really)
i) GFA is/was the name of the ikaruga dvd "advisor" (hmmm)
k) baka americans = unskilled ( )

I just found this French site's report on the festival, but thought I'd mention it because you can spot Gaijin Punch in the video where the cameraman is walking down the stairs showing the long line (he's the white guy towards the beginning with the beige leather jacket). You can also spot sven666 in one of the other videos in the background playing the Futari score attack version.

I was wondering the whole time what the deal was with the other white guys who were there. Far too nerdy to not be on the net, figures they'd post about the event somewhere.

At long last, my secret identiy is revealed. Remember, the camera adds like 15 pounds. (A pregnant wife sucking the life out of you adds a few as well!)

The funny thing was... I would've bet my house Sven was who he was. I spotted him across the room. Funny dat.

Man... that video on the french site is freaking awesome. But to highlight the awesome, I got a screencap that I think is a spectacular display of these shmup-os... I mean, just look at them! :D

Although I guess the japanese like to line up? so they're probably not all fan boys.

I was about 10 people behind GP in line, so at that point in the footage the cameraman is rounding the corner and not filming faces. I also spent much of the time sitting down reading manga, since after the first 30 minutes I was getting the feeling it might take a while.

I don't think you see her in the footage, but there was a nice-looking girl in line who was standing right next to GP the whole time. I figured she was with him until I noticed him checking her out periodically. Why there was an attractive girl waiting in line by herself for the Cave festival I will always wonder...(although the likely story is her salaryman husband was too busy and sent her to score the merch).

Normally I would just concede that I was just checking some chick out. But, I was not. While I was scoping her out from time to time, it was not in admiration of her hotness (she wasn't bad... for a video game festival, she was smokin'). Anyways, as I had been in town once a week, I was pondering over two things:

1: Something I always ponder over, but can never quite write a nice piece about it. Why the fuck Japanese people can and will line up for anything. (Cave, Sushi, donuts... for the love of God people, DONUTS). This chick, the whole time, was just sitting there "train sleeping" style. (standing up, neck down, comatose). She never made a peep.

2: Her spaced out shoes. I kept "checking her out" b/c I was trying to get a nice shot w/o her noticing. Couldn't use the flash... too obvious, and it was kind of dark.

Don't believe me?

I guess there's not a separate thread for this year's Cave Festival. So...let's just add on to this one.

Here is my writeup

Got pictures and vids of the special Ketsui.

Btw, for those 'special' games they don't need to spin a whole new PCB. It's probably just code changes, so they can just burn a new ROM and slap it in an existing Ketsui/etc board. And depending on the boards, they could probably convert some other PGM-board game to a 'special' Ketsui.

So is there any way for us scrubs to buy the Futari DVD?

Aah, true dat.

Assuming the limit is similar to what the OST was (10), you can PM me. I'm about at 10 though.

EDIT:
Here are the items:
http://www.cave.co.jp/event/fes200709/goods.html

EDIT again:
Can MMM, Valgar, or any of the pussies that have never made it to loop two but have watched many vids of it comment on the Ketsui version? Seems a bit different from what I remember...and I'm too tired to go digging for my replays.

GP, did you happen to catch the official name of this Ketsui 'special' version? Was the title screen changed or anything?

Nope, nothing. The only thing different was the move sticker which had some goofy Engrish on it w/ the Evac sign. In fact, during the Talk Show portion, Mihara said, "Did anyone notice anything different about Ketsui out there?". That was when he gave his spiel about IKD being such a rock star.

Ahhh ok, thanks GP. I'll just list it as [Ketsui : Festival version] in the Chronology then. ..unless someone has a better idea.

If anyone could tell specific differences in gameplay between the two, that would be spectacular as well.

Besides the switched shot types for the ships, it looks like loop 2 difficulty but without the suicide bullets.

The Stage 5 patterns looked the same, but Stage 1 for sure.

Yeah, looks a lot like the loop's bullet patterns without any suicide bullets. Sure makes it look easy.

You also need to get really close to an enemy to get the 5 chips. It was pretty much always 1 or 2 chips unless the player was pointblanking. Did they take out 3 and 4 chips?

EDIT

Nevermind, I saw a 4 chip in one of those videos at least.

From Gamegai:
NAL said he tried to do it in under 20,000 a month, but went way over. Yusemi spent a whopping 150,000 yen the first month! He also said though, that every time he played, he played it through to the end (continuing even) to learn the harder patterns. So, that obviously got expensive.
So much for the "Japanese players never continue, ever" attitude (if you know what I am referring to).

Mihara mentioned something about this in the meaning. I was still trying to process all the other shit though.

It had been established before, but if anyone wanted more proof, there it is.

See? Credit feeding is only evil over here because all the casual gamers think the game is too easy as a result. If you have practice, the 1cc, and a higher score in mind, who cares whether you credit feed or not? =/

Edit: Or are just having fun =) The most important part.

I use savestates to practice bosses. That's like 1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000x as "bad" as credit feeding to practice, though ports have the option to let you do that.

I keep thinking I need to start using savestates to practice stage 5 in DDP, but never care enough, so I just have wait ~10 minutes before each practice run of Stage 5 -_^

I know. Someone had better explain to these douchebags the point of arcade games. And quick!
