Actually had one a few weeks ago...I dreamed they made a Biometal II, and there was some huge argument about whether they should or shouldn't luse 2 Unlimited music for the US soundtrack...nevermind that 2 Unlimited hasn't existed for almost a decade now...
Thank God. I got tired of hearing that the roof is on fire and that I should follow the leader. :P

I once dreamed of playing a sit-down Gradius arcade in freakin' AMAZING 3d. I dreamed it after seeing a photograph of something like that in an old issue of Diehard Gamefan magazine. I think that game actually came out in japan but i think i remember reading that it suck goat balls. That's right goat balls. Anyway, in the dream you had twin sticks to control movement with different buttons to switch your options and abilities. I think there where thrust pedals on the floor like in a car.

I was just standing there while a horde of bullets went towards me, and somehow the bullets hit my arms and legs and go through them unharmed... I was just stnadthere too and no bullet even hit me in the chest... o_O

... I guess these new-style shmups with small hit-boxes are really getting to me. It's funny though, hehe, I wish that really did happen in real life.

Last night, I dreamt I found a copy of Gradius for the Apple ][! It was really awful, though, I got one power-up [which gave me Double?], which I immediately lost because there was a literal WALL of enemies I couldn't get through. Never gave me any other power-ups, either :(

But a Vic Viper made of four-pixels! Wow. :P

I've had the dream about finding a rare shmup at a store, but for some reason, I can never play it in the dream! I wake up frustrated! I think I've also had dreams about being a pilot getting in a ship...

Had a dream the other day where I was back at school, and there were arcade cabs on both sides of a long hallways. It wasn't the student center, but actually in an academic building itself. There were students playing games, some waiting to go into class. I expected the games to be fighters and what not, but they were mostly shooters. I remember seeing ESP Galuda, Dragon Blaze, DDP, and a whole bunch. I remembered saying out loud : "I am gonna spend a lot of money here."

I tried out this Giga Wing-ish game. I remember fighting this boss, where the background is similar to Giga Wing 2's stage six(the background's rotating and spinning). After reflecting I slowly moved to the right and waited for the reflect gauge to charge. Then the boss released a friggin tornado(It had a height of the whole screen) at me. I didn't see an opening and my RG wasn't charged, so I had to bomb. I remember the bomb was a typical Giga Wing type bomb and I remember overlapping the tornado to get to the boss. I can't remember what happened after that.

Ah! A couple of nights ago, I dreamt that a new ABA Games title had been released, and it was the most full-fledged title to date. It was vertical (sort of? Dreams are weird), starring a cute little girl-witch, and actually seemed more reminiscent of a Shanghai Alice release (with opening and menu system and character design) but the overall gameplay system and appearance was a highly-attractive hybrid.

The backgrounds in particular were very dark yet featured areas of vivid color, with very little repetition (if any) and visible wireframe construction of the background objects (mostly plants, grasses, flowers and such from the perspective of a fairy/pixie/sprite/mountain dew) which blended seamlessly with basic texturing for a synthetic-yet-organic aesthetic.

I remembered an actual progression through the level, and some neat bullet patterns, but most of it has become fuzzy since dreaming the dream...

I also dreamt today that I ate a bunch of colorful bullets, except that it actually happened, and the bullets were actually two year-old Warheads, and now my tongue hurts. :P

"Darn, I want to know where are all these dreams coming from in just one day. I've had another one, and this one is SHMUPS-related. It started with me inside a house, most likely in Santo Domingo because in here we hardly care about our neighbors. There's a lot of merriment in the house across the street and people started coming out of that house. They came nearer and nearer the house I was in and entererd the house next door. Soon, videogame music started to play, and I wondered from what game it was. I started humming along the tune (there were no SFX, strangely), and it seemed more and more familiar. There was no doubt; it was a Thunder Force song! By the quality of it, I thought it was from TF3, even though I hardly play that game. I was very happy and derived from the lack of SFX that the player was very good. If he died, there would definitely be a "BANG". I really wanted to go next door and wondered what my parents would think, but heck, I wasn't going to miss this chance. I started to go, and I started to feel funny and hot. My subconciousness knew what was happening, so I jumped outta the bed, undressed myself from waist down and took out my bed's cover 'cause I F!@#$&^ing wet my bed, for real."

-As written in my journal a few mins ago (sans grammar errors).

Disclaimer: I really fecking wet my bed . That will teach me not to drink 8 cups of water a day.

Last night I had a really fucked up dream, made up of little bits and pieces of nonsensical crap. The bits that kind of made sense was that I was playing a really interesting derivative of Blazing Star, with a few of the levels being Space Harrier-style, and at time there would be just as many bonus items as there were bullets. o_O I got 100% rankings on the 12 levels that I played, but then lost all my lives on what I think was the final boss.

It was a huge Gorilla-type beast. So huge that the screen of the cabinet I was on all of a sudden grew to quadruple it's size! And this guy literally covered 85% of all that screen area with bullets. The patterns had absolutely no rhyme or reason to them. AT ALL. Bullets came from all sides, from behind, they swirled in circular motions, they split, and my own shots which hit the boss released these flashing blue bullets that bounced all over the place like psychotic Pachinko balls. Un-fucking-real.

Then I started running down a tube, and came out the other side in this really bizarre place, that looked like a setting in a Dreamcast game. There was water flowing where the roads were supposed to be, and elevated train tracks overhead. On the tracks was a giant-screen projection TV that showed an image of the water. As I stared at it, the entire environment became cel-shaded. I walked around, and then a bunch of ther stuff happened.

The last part I remember of my dream was that I was battling an enemy from Trizeal (the ship that emerges from the mud when you clear the BREAK OUT! phase of the Omake Stage)

But it was kind of in a cocktail/open-shoebox cabinet. And..instead of shooting it, I was pissing on it.

...dunno.

^ Skyline, that's nuts. Great reading, though, and sounds like it was... fun?

That TV-on-tracks-displaying-image-of-water part sounds especially surreal.

Also a bummer to hear about that incident, UFO. I guess that when you gotta go [to the neighbors'], you gotta go!

Use the restroom before bed next time!

I usually go to the potty before going to bed--at night. This particular incident happened during a nap after lunch. Though, I have to admit that the prospect of seeing someone totally pwn a SHMUP could cause that sort of accidents even when awake.

I am in the process of reading the dreams in this thread now. Maybe I'll post some impressions later.

Ah! Hmm. Well, at least it wasn't a nap on the couch at work, or anything. 8)

Maybe not totally shmup-related, but a couple of nights ago, I dreamt that Super Laydock came to visit me, and he was really loud.

Plus, I think that it was last night that I dreamt that there was some sort of problem with Moss, and that there was a serious scoop stating that we shouldn't look forward to a home port of Raiden III at all. :(

I even had this visual of about five games in DVD-style cases (Ibara was on the far left, I think), with one fading away in the middle--Raiden III. Thank goodness that dreams are rarely prophetic.

I mean... I'm sure that S. Laydock isn't that loud.

Edit 2005-05-11: I thought that I'd edit, instead of adding a new post.

Last night, I had this dream (after one similar to NOLF) that I was "in" this sort of fantasy shooting game, which actually had some "rail shooter" elements, but it was mostly at this one point where the enemies I was battling (angels--they looked good, but they were... evil? Or maybe I was evil. I don't think so, though) were far away, and shooting these arcing manic bullet patterns, and it seemed almost like a rail shooter because it took a while for them to arrive on my "plane."

At one point, there were so many bullets coming (in wave after wave of patterns that seemed like they would emerge high, but then would almost "home in" so it made things challenging) that I hit the panic button (bomb) and seriously, it took about five-ten seconds for all of the bullets to be cancelled out. I remember being stunned at how many there were (up close, approaching, in the distance) and how they seemed to "pop" newest-to-oldest (being that the bullets closer to the angels in the pattern would sequentially "pop" as the effect of the bomb traveled across the pattern, towards me).

I then realized that I should probably be shooting instead of simply dodging, and that I could probably get through this. So, I did, and took out two of the angels, and the bullet density thinned accordingly. The angel then came up closer (probably to balance the difficulty) but I was able to take it (him?) out. Then... I was fighting what seemed like the final boss. :|

It was this evil doctor dude, and I was taking a beating. I noted that I could change my character (RPG-style) on-the-fly, and that some of my characters had more health (or "HP" and "EXP") than others, so I actually went back to the one that I had been using--Sort of a girl in a mechanical cat outfit (reminiscent of powered-up Ayane from Power Stone, except... catty), whom had four bars of health and a powerful shot.

At one point, though, the boss got in very close, and the camera rotated a bit to show that he was practically standing in front of me (in terms of my character standing on the "Z" axis), and he followed me around the screen like a reflection--He wasn't shooting, but I couldn't get away from him, and he... pulled out this big, rusty bolt cutter (best way that I can describe it) and he was cutting my heart out with it! :(

Talk about "horror shooter." And the sound that it made! :o :x

(Sort of a dull grinding, nails-on-chalkboard effect.)

Anyway, so I think that I was able to get a bit away during one of his switching between attacks, and could see through this mist behind him that there was a platform with a large red button--I then thought that he was some sort of mechanical puppet, so I maneuvered around and shot the button with all my might (ha), and... the dream went into another sequence.

Phew.

Okay, I know that no one cares, but this is like, my favorite thread.

Sorry, I had to tell someone that would actually have an idea of what I was talking about. First, I dreamt that the ship in Radiant Silvergun was actually this low-poly, shiny 3D guy, riding (standing on) a giant crow. (Karous, Milestone?) It wasn't exactly a rail shooting game, but kind of, as the camera followed behind him as he went through the very dark and ominous stage. There seemed to be places with pyramids (Rez?) but mostly it was outdoors, high up in the sky, which was completely overcase for as far as the eye could see. Extremely dark. Enemies could be seen in the distance, which would sort of 'gravitate' up to the 'screen field' that the guy was a part of, in which case he would 'switch modes' and it would be similar to a standard scroll shooting game.

The guy could switch between three modes, each of which had a different sound. The first sound was almost imperceptible, the second was sort of a low warble, and the third sounded like that giant elevator in Maken X when it's trying to go up but the big heavy robots land on it (hard to describe otherwise). The three modes were the free-flying mode, then the second mode where he would shoot the enemies on the screen, then a third mode where you could dive down, loop up over and behind the enemies, and jump and drill dash (NiGHTS style) off of the crow, which would swoop ahead and catch you after you completely drilled through the enemy. It was neat.

Secondly, I dreamt that Last Hope was actually built in a 3D engine (what's with me and the dreams and the 3D?) so in addition to showing the side-scrolling gameplay, the camera could pan around cinematically in between areas, like a cut scene. I remembered that I could shoot while the ship was on the "track" that would automatically bring it to the next area, which was past a huge swarm of popcorn enemies, which I probably would've run into, had I not pressed the shot button.

I probably had that part of the dream because I watched FAKK2's stage 1 video yesterday, with the cool cut scene animation. :D

I had a dream that me and Pirate had a perfect Ikaruga (for GC) run.

Sadly, when I woke up, it wasn't true.

I just got out of bed and I actually had a dream about shmups for the first time ever.

I dreamt I went to the library, but for some reason it was partly condemned or closed down, but right at the main entrance there was a new arcade that had opened. There was a bunch og machines right as you walked in. Can't remember what it was but further back they had Tiger Heli 2 and Gigawing. I clearly remember seeing the Tiger Heli 2 title screen.

Didn't play them though as I went further into the building which had more cabinets but they were turned off. Woke up shortly after that.

I've come to realise that if you push the snooze button on your alarm clock and is able to fall asleep in those odd 10 minutes you dream a lot and is able to remember it.

Hell yeah, i get this same thing after almost every heavy bout of shmupping before bed. It's like i'll be laying there dozing off and suddenly all around me are little glowing blobs and there almos-!!!!! WA! And then i look around for a second and laugh. After the first time they don't usually make me really wake up, but i'll still feel a few jolts of me pulling my 'ship' out of their way, usually this eventually turns visual like i'm looking at a vert screen and just trying to dodge. I sometimes notice that hit detection doesn't work all the time, and certain things don't make sense and that tips me off that i'm dreaming.

This is not a very shmup related dream but I kind of have the same thing. Except my alarmclock always wakes me up from my dreams, or maybe it just seems that way. And most of the time I curse that clock for not letting me finish. The dream, well.. I found out I could walk or crawl through small spaces in what seemed like solid walls...

In the eighties, I used to dream about incredible sequel for tehkan's starforce that was merged with exerion somehow. It had incredibly smooth animation and high resolution.

I also dreamt of some rtype clone with massive resolutions and detail (I mean we're talking about '87 here).

I have a permanent, private arcade where I usually always go when I dream.
I've visited it countless of times.
It has a sequel for toki, dragon breed and house of the dead/space harrier mixup and huge, enormous cabinet version of after burner with surround sound.

Last night when I visited my arcade on my dream, I found again my PCB board of Xevious/raiden DX crossover, which was the only prototype copy, and played it few times.

When dreaming recently, I've been also pillowing through genesis/turbographix /pc-engine games and thought when I wake up 'I gotta buy those consoles some day'; well they are presented in virtual console now

I'm not making this up.
