Media player classic, vlc, and maybe GOM (not sure) have ways to rotate it while playing. Dig around the options.

To permanently rotate it you'd need to re-encode it.

I have virtual dub but it won't let me open this file because it is .MP4. How do you do it??

Thanks for that. I couldn't find any option in Media Player Classic to rotate it, but I downloaded vlc and clicked on the "transformation" option and it rotated it properly. It automatically rotates it when I open that file now too, which is great.

In MPC, if you have one of the accelerated renderers selected (I think you need VMR7/9 renderless under 'directshow') and have 'use texture surfaces and render video in 3D' selected (options->playback->output) you can rotate/zoom/etc the video in real time.

I generally do Alt-3 to double size the video, then Alt-numpad 1 to rotate it 90-degrees. Then just normal numpad-1 to zoom out so I can see the whole thing.

You get black borders, but you can see the whole video without turning your head ;)

Twe was right, I've tried Original 1.0 and it's a good load of fun :)
The system seems senseless but it works, that's the important thing, and the game is not that hard, actually. Maniac is hard, but I've got no positive feelings from it in 2/3 runs.

Videos for Ultra 1-3 using Abnormal Palm

They're in the top two posts on that page next to where it says DLkey: urutora (which you need to enter when prompted).

He dies 3 times in stg 1, 4 times in stg 2, and 14 times in stg 3...but hey he doesn't use any bombs. Good job, fella.

Still, check out how fast Abnormal Palm wastes the bosses when used correctly. That turtle mid-boss didn't know wtf happened.

Bring on the stage 4 and 5 replays, plz.

Finally got back to Hawaii last night and picked up my Futari 1.5 kit at the post office this morning. Here's the extra stuff the 1.5 kits come with:

Letter describing the contents of the package:

Instructions on where to put the extra ver 1.5 stickers
Image

Mini POP and two ver 1.5 stickers
Image

I played each mode a couple times, and yes, now the game is perfect. Thank you Cave! I credit fed through Ultra mode and stages 4 and 5 are obscene, especially 5. The Stage 4 and 5 bosses have the most gorgeous bullet patterns. The last boss was fun, but alas, no TLB after it. Probably have to beat her on 1 credit to see a TLB.

If you guys have any questions, feel free to ask.

EDIT: I noticed a very cool change that no one has mentioned yet. Unlike the original Futari and Mushihime-sama, the High score on the top of the screen when you play is not the "today's high score", but the ALL-TIME high score, just like in Ibara! I like this a lot better, as you always have that top score on the screen whenever you fire up the game.

Also, on the boot-up screen it says Ver 1.54, not just 1.5.

I figured out the key to high scores in Maniac mode. :D Those clever Cave bastards! They managed to find a way to make Futari 1.5 feel more like Mushi without using all the tap tap rapid fire stuff. Here's the key (note, this is new to ver 1.5 and was not in ver 1.0):

Hold C and try to kill an enemy. At the very last moment while the chaining bar is still red and while still holding C, press the A button and finish off the enemy with the A shot --do this and you'll get all the bullets on the screen converted to large gems. This increases your gem counter 2-4x more than just killing the enemy with C while the chaining bar is red, as when you kill an enemy with only the C button only the gems from the enemy's body are large gems, the rest of the converted bullet gems are small gems. It requires really good timing (you have about 1 second before the chaining bar turns to blue), and is best used for large enemies, just like the rapid fire skyrockets in Mushi 1. This technique is necessary to score high on all the bosses as well.

So basically, the A button is the key to scoring in Maniac mode. You need to use it when the chaining bar is flashing red to get maximum large gems, and press it when there is no chaining bar to kick in the multiplier.

I tried this out just now and got 40 mil on Stage 1 with normal Reco. You can get a TON of points in stage 3 using this technique, probably even more than in Stage 2.

Could there be a similar techinique in Original and Ultra modes? Maybe. I'll have to fiddle around with them. Might explain how a few Japanese players are getting crazy high Original mode scores.

The stage 2 boss in maniac is a wealth of points to be had if you're good enough, but it's really difficult to get used to. twe, you posted a video of a player attempting the milking technique it but not fully succeeding. I've seen guys at the arcade pull in over 150 million from this boss alone.

I'm interested in hearing what the current records are for all modes. The best I've seen:

430m+ in Original (how?!)
650m+ in Maniac
400m+ in Ultra (someone is bound to have hit the second extend by now...)

Best Ultra mode score I've seen this far is about 620 mil. In a few months I expect to see the Japanese gamers get 2 bil+ scores in Ultra. You can probably get over 1 bil in Stage 5 alone if you no miss up until that point and don't die throughout the stage.

I keep playing like a bag of dicks on stage 4. And yeah, the 2nd level boss is a shitload of points, but I usually settle for 30 million. I'd rather get the clear first. Still not got past stage 4 mid-boss.

Some more info I've discovered (I'll eventually compile all this into a FAQ for the strategy forums):

-In original mode, the stage counter maxes out at 9999. The overall counter continues indefinitely.

-The scoring system in Ultra is not exactly the same as in Original mode. Instead of being based on the hundreds digit with the counter changing from green to blue every 500 points, it changes every 2000 points. So starting from zero you need to kill enemies with the C button when the thousands digit is from 0-1 (green), but use A when it is from 2-3 (blue), and then C when it is 4-5 (green), A for 6-7, C for 8-9, but then A for the next 0-1 (so note that with every 10 thousand added to the overall counter the buttons are reversed!). Also, unlike Original mode the stage counter does not max out at 9999. It continues indefinitely like the overall counter.

Seems to be working again.

Ultra stage 5 is stunning, especially the last boss. The TLB must be the scariest thing ever.

NTSC-J: would you mind uploading that to some site like megaupload or yousendit? I tried again on that link and no luck. Might be restricted to Japanese IPs (which would explain why you can download it).

Shouldn't be... I've downloaded from him in both Hawaii and Japan. Try it again (or use an open proxy).

That upload service is definitely using some sort of IP restriction. Doesn't work from home for me or my dreamhost shell. If i find an open JP PHPproxy, it tries to download but the proxy denies it due to size.

Luckily, it appears whatever they're using to determine what to allow doesn't catch one of my shell boxes at work. Downloading stuff now, I'll edit this post with links as they come in.

Thanks a lot zakk, I'm downloading right now. :)

On another topic, did anyone else trade in their ver 1.0 board for a 1.5 board? I know there were over a handful of people here who bought 1.0 boards. It's pretty empty on the ver 1.5 scoreboards here, unlike the ver 1.0 ranking, which makes me wonder if anyone else did the board swap. If you haven't traded your board in, I highly recommend you do. After spending two days with ver 1.5, I never want to play 1.0 again. 1.5 is so much better in every way.

in a future i will want buy also 1.5 but i want 1.0 in my collection

Original mode in 1.0 is real pretty and is another challenge various and is realy hard to realize a no miss (no bomb is impossible above all in 4 boss especially in the last pattern)

i hope in version 1.5 to find a solution or fix for a problem antialiasing i have find in version 1.0 when play it with my egret2
and i hope cave have know to lesson and in a future dont release many game with bugs like 1.0

I don't think these videos will be of must interest to you, they're just demos to show off Ultra mode for those that haven't seen it all. He dies at every pattern just about...

Today I saw a guy no-miss Original mode with normal Reco. He got up to 55,000 on the counter and had 356m at the end after bonuses. Still, the top score on the board was 466+! twe, I'll leave it up to you to experiment with this mode to find out where all these points are coming from because I simply don't have a clue and few people at the arcades seem to either. I'm guessing a score like that would involve getting the counter up to 75k, but how this is done I can only imagine.

NTSC-J: you're right, I downloaded the stage 5 vid and I should have guessed it was no "superplay". It's good for people who haven't seen stages 4 and 5 yet though. As for the 466 mil scores in Original, I currently have no clue. You mentioned awhile back how there are gem fountains in Stage 5? I can't seem to find them anywhere. Where are they, and how do you trigger them?

In other video news, here's a great stage 1 Ultra mode Normal Reco No Miss No bomb vid:
