Twin Cobra/Kyukyoku Tiger/Tiger Heli

Post by chtimi-CLA »

The new high score thread for these games can be found here.

pcb, mame and psx versions are ok.
everything default (extend 70000/200000 every etc..)

game speed = arcade in the general options, if you play the psx version

POST THE GAME AND DIFFICULTY. IF YOU ALREADY HAVE A SCORE IN A BOARD, QUOTE IT AND EDIT IT.
GOOD LUCK!

DEL - 3,645,000 - End Stage 20 - Arcade Default

Not a good score, but it is correct. Area not noted, I measured my progress by Loops and Stages. Died on the Final Boss of the 2nd Loop ST20.

Cheers,

he del that's pretty good! also what weapons do you use? i use the blue shot in stages, red on bosses , green on st4 and 8 bosses to kill one fast, and yellow only in stage 7, at the carriers with many big planes that go toward the bottom releasing aimed clusters.

Hi chtimi,

Weapons wise, we used to use blue spread for the whole game except for 1 change = Green laser for the ST4 Bosses.
On the previous forum I posted the location of the 'Safe Spot' for the Final Boss ST10. As long as you can reach the last Boss with 4way blue spread or more, plant 1 bomb as you arrive and use that time to position yourself in the grey box directly in the middle, below centre of the screen. This is a blind spot where you can stay. the nose of your helicopter should be aligned with the top of the grey box. The blue spread will take out the constantly appearing tanks from both sides of the last Boss. Just sit there firing until it dies.

great, i remember consistently reaching the 10th boss without dying on the PCE rev a long time ago, only to get butchered and thrown back to the last checkpoint so that will come in very handy
does the difficulty continue to increase in each successive loops? or does it eventually max out? (i would not be surprised if it was like in ghosts'n goblins where they simply increase the difficulty setting until it maxes out at very hard)

Rank

Post by DEL »

Well, I never pushed Twin Cobra past the end of the 2nd Loop, so I'm not sure if the Rank increase stops at the 3rd Loop, as in Truxton.

However, you can't use Truxton as the Rank barometer for Toaplan shooters. Because my friends ARC and ARM tried an experiment on their Jap Fire Shark Board. One night they put it on 'invincible', put a book on the firebutton and left it on overnight. When they woke up in the morning, the game was spitting Bullets like you've never seen before, simply blurring down the screen at an incredible rate
So...there was no limit to the increase.

Oh, so rank system in this game is just a linear increase with stage progression, and not a factor of how often you lose a life or pick up bombs/powerups? i.e. there is no way to "manage rank" in Twin Cobra?

it's not that, there is no rank system that i can see in twin cobra. what DEL calls rank here is the increase in difficulty from 1-x to n-x (1 loop=10 stages)

Difficulty

Post by DEL »

Yep, sorry I wasn't thinking straight on that one. There's no Rank, just difficulty increasing per Loop.

Well someone needs to command the lower teirs of the high score thread, so here is mine:

Cmoon - 302.490 - area 58 (stage 3) - arcade default (actually toaplan shooting battle on the psx)

Hopefully I'll have much better scores soon!

Got no miss still stage 3, and then make my way to stage 4 with the reminding lifes.

Consider it is $0.25 a credit in the acrade, this must be the game got it value payback the fastest in my entire collection. I orginally paid $70 for the "Toaplan Shooting Battle 1", and I have already played 200+ within a week... Got "game over" in stage 1 for at least 100+ times.

If I take into account the trade in value of the game, I am already start making money on it...

4,141,340 stage 21 boss area 503

My first highscore! Set just an hour ago on my new TC pcb (played quite a lot in the arcade back in the day and i've kept my skills sharp with MAME.) Had an awesome first loop, almost a no-miss finishing with 2,400,000ish, then played terribly on the second, losing lives on almost every stage. Limped on to the third loop and succumbed very quickly to the ridiculously fast bullets :(

mmh, sorry yojo i don't think it's worth it, maybe if others submit very hard scores.
for now i'll put your score in the common board.

What is the final boss in Twin Cobra? Errr...actually, what does it look like? I'm not sure if I looped this puppy (probably meaning that I didn't).

The final boss of each loop is the twin immobile turret fortresses of Stage 10.

Here's a Stage 5 and Stage 10 boss comparison (from a non-serious play of the Genesis version--this is what I had laying around).

but it's more complicated, my (original) PCB says kyukyoku tiger and doesn't have check points.

I think we need a separate board for very hard, here's my score:

2846340 area 366 pcb, very hard

It's tricky! For my first 3 or 4 games i got hit on the first level for some reason, but then i raised my game for this nice score. The 2nd loop is very mean.
