563,590 Stage 6 easy, rapid fire on
By the end of stage 5 those kamikaze planes were beginning to be a pain in the ass to beat because not only were they fast, they were consistent, lasted quite awhile with them, but ultimately fell short of beating stage 6 (they'd loop around to try and ram me, goodness!).
And Ed that scene was the start of stage 3, absolutely hilarious that the guy tries to hide.

Aha! Managed to beat my previous highscore first time I played (to 448,620), then had a few bad rounds, then had a very good round:
1,605,400 Stage 9 Easy, rapid fire off
Man, there was a spot where I died like six times in a row and my plane counter was stuck at five, I started to wonder if it'd ever go down
What can I say...the right weapon for the job.
Edit: And I hadn't ever passed stage 5 before, so a lot of it was completely new to me.

Damn so close to looping this game, yet so far. Still last, but looking a lot better, and after taking a month or two break from it, I come back and post my best score yet. Bought the game so this is practice for me in anticipation of finally owning this little gem.

No only on the one player side, now that I own the real deal for Genesis, I'll need a new Genesis pad first as my old one is literally on it's last legs. I do hear the second player side is easier, but I figured Fire Shark for Genesis was one player only (the box says so), I could've sworn Same Same Same was the exact same way on the MD.

Yeah on emulator I was sticking with the Japanese version for awhile (seems about the same difficulty as the US version), I've noticed the arcade version is tougher because the US version has inst-respawn on it (damn I'd love to see a superplay on the real deal PCB, just to hear the music and see a pro go at it).
Also helps that I cranked the difficulty to normal mode, and getting absolutely wasted in stage 4 (enemies bullet speeds don't seem to change, just the amount of tanks and how much more they fire), can't drag myself to do easy mode anymore for some strange reason, either on the Japanese versions rom of Same Same Same, or on my Genesis copy of Fire Shark.
It also seems the Genesis Fire Shark may have the Twin Cobra Genesis syndrome, not only did it retain the checkpoint system, it also retained the difficulty of the Japanese arcade version. One good thing about this is it'll help make this game last much longer for me, in time I'll be getting as far in normal mode as I do in easy mode (used to not clear stage 1 in Normal mode, can now get to stage 4 consistently).

That sums this game up quite well.Andi wrote:You just get so cocky and used to killing everything instantly with a full powered fire beam that then, when you fuck up and die, you don't know what to do with yourself.
