For our arcade shmup PCB hobbyists, please indulge me in the positive & negative merits of Cave's Ibara arcade Jamma PCB compared to the later released PS2 Ibara port. I'd like to hear what our more informed Ibara PCB owners have to say about that particular version compared to the latter.
Yes, I do have the Japanese PS2 import of Ibara for the record & would like to know if the arcade PCB version is the one to play/own... ^_~
The local arcades in the Modesto, California area really don't much of a selection of arcade uprights with shmup titles...except for the occassional Gunbird 2 arcade cabinet at the McHenry Bowling Center -- yep, that's still there, alrighty. And the orignal Psikyo produced Gunbird arcade Jamma PCB kit (sans the original factory box but other than that, it is, indeed, complete) which I already have -- is a classic arcade shmup title in it's own right.
So much for the XSGames release of "Mobile Light Force 1" on the USA Bios version of the PSX/PSone consoles -- they fucked it up big time! At the very least, one can still listen to the cool Gunbird BGM tunes used on the actual arcade PCB and is presented in true Redbook audio format for playing on a standard music CD player -- can't do that with the original Gunbird PCB, right? ^_~
Perhaps, it's time for another round of that good ol' Gunbird PCB -- shall we fire it up? Are you up for the challenge? ^_~
A big thanks in advance for your input and or suggestions... ^_~

Cool Darth Vader pic...

just kidding..
I had a feeling that you were going to say that an Ibara PCB wins hands down but chose otherwise, hmmm? ^_~
As for Darth Vader in his classic stance & engulfed with the power of the 'Dark Side of the Force"...I give him my regards. ^_~
Makes me wonder what Episodes 7, 8, & 9 were going to be about if George Lucas decided to continue on after the turn of events at the end of Episode 6: Return of the Jedi -- the world may never know...
A new Star Wars theaterical movie would be nice -- not that Mr. Lucas needs to do another one though but it would be nice..... ^_~
May the Force be with you...

A few things I remember hearing...
PCB doesn't have Arrange mode, obviously.
PCB doesn't have load times, also obviously.
PCB has more slowdown, though most see that as a good thing in this case.
The port requires you to select ship type in the options menu, annoying.
A few minor enemy placement differences.
The scaling/filtering thing, if that matters to you.
That's all I can remember offhand.

What BulletMagnet said plus:
-The PS2 version was slightly censored, the final boss pics in the PCB after level 1 and level 6 show more skin.
-The trains in stage 3 in the PS2 version are all one connected background. In the PCB each segment of the train moves separately (and is a separate sprite?).
The major differences are the slowdown and enemy placement. These affect your score. This (along with the crisp, clean non-filtered graphics)is the main reason why the PCB is desirable.
Anyway, PC Engine Fan X, you have both the PS2 version and the PCB, so you can compare them yourself.

Thanks again to Bulletmagnet and twe for listing the pros & cons of Ibara PCB vs. PS2 versions and a special big thanks to twe for his generous offer of a complete Ibara PCB Kit to me -- it arrived safe & sound..... ^_~

It's barely anything, AFAIK...IIRC Meidi's crotch is more fully covered, and Teresa has some semi-transparent mesh over her chest area in the PS2 version, but otherwise I think it's pretty much the same. Just compare the original arcade version artwork with the PS2 art, it's hardly worth mentioning.
