pal PSX essentials?
Sorry, the search function on this board doesn't allow narrowing down on topics.
My question is: Which PAL shmups are worth picking up for the PSX? I just purchased 'R-types' for 5$ brand new, and I'm looking to expand my psx library.
Otherwise: What is the best psx review archive on the internet? I'm having a hard time finding any good ones.

Geki-oh
Raycrisis
Raiden Project
Sonic Wings Special
Dragon Spirit (Namco Museum 5)
Strikers 1945 II
Raystorm
Capcom Generations (1942,1943,1943 Kai, Exed Exes, Vulgus)

Viewpoint
Mobile Light Force
Xevious 3D/G
Thats all I can think of atm
Of these, Raiden, Gekioh, Raycrisis are what I'd consider essential, avoid the last 4

Then get an import PS1; otherwise you'll miss out on the best games (in no particular order):
Gradius Gaiden, Thunderforce V, Zanac X Zanac, Image Fight & X-Multiply, Gradius Deluxe Pack, Salamander Deluxe Pack Plus, Darius Gaiden, Harmful Park, Raiden DX, Donpachi, Dodonpachi, Toaplan Shooting Battle No 1 ...
And yes, it's worth to get a Japanese PS1 just for these.

I've not found a PS1 boot disc yet that will play DonPachi and DoDonPachi properly. The propblem with the boot discs that I've used is that they will not re-read the TOC on the disc and so any games with Red Book audio (like DP and DDP) will not play properly (sound is really messed up, glitches, etc). A mod or import PSX is the only way to play these properly as far as I know. Maybe there is a boot disc that will work - I just haven't come across one yet. Import games that do not use Redbook audio will play fine in a PS1 with boot disc (Zanac X Zanac and Radien DX work fine, for example). If you want to play the best versions of the 'Pachi's short of an arcade board, I'm fairly sure an import PSX or mod chip is the only way it will work. Has anyone been able to play those games properly with a boot disc?Mikey wrote:The PS can play imports with a boot disc. Another boot disc can force PAL games to play at 60Hz. So there's no need for an import PS.
