Side Scrolling- What are your favs?
Well, I'm kinda new to this forum, but wanted to get some ideas on which side scrollers you guys like best around here? Personally, I'd die for R-Type 3, Delta, Final, and most of the Gradius series
(lol..metal slug and Contra if you all are willing to let that slide for a little bit
). I'm looking to buy (saturn/segacd/pce/ etc etc ) /download (in the case of games that can't be purchased-freeware and the like) some new games to keep me occupied. Post Away!!

I still havnt played FINAL, but I definitely enjoy III/Super a whole lot these days.
Also, there's no beating my enjoyment with Thunderforce V (and its glorious soundtrack).
Another you could look out for would be Progear. The only "manic" Side-Scroller I'm familiar with (are there any others?).

Not a huge Horizontal fan, but Border Down definitely wins me over (not sure if it is worth the 100+ dollare purchase, but still...) Given its connection to G-Darius (another great horizontal), it might be best to check that one out before throwing the money down for Border Down.

Yeah, I heard that Border Down was good. Now to buy that DC....
I like the Darius games, all that i've played are pretty hard though. Progear is nice. I like it. I like the setting they put the game in. The R-Type games are pretty good, but a little frusterating. Personally I dislike the Gradius games, although I would like to try V if I had a PS2.
EDIT: Well, you're 'kinda new' to the forum, so I'll give you a 'welcome to the forum...kinda'.

Border Down is good: I wasn't thrilled with it when I first tried it, but after spending a bit of time and getting into the scoring system it became more enjoyable for me. Just be aware, this is one of those games where you pretty much HAVE to play for score at least somewhat just to finish the thing...check the ST for more info on that.

Thunder Force AC
Thunder Force V
Border Down
G-Darius
Darius Gaiden
Einhander
Gley Lancer
Macross Scrambled Valkyrie (still the best Macross game?)
Hellfire
Zero Wing
mmm... that's about it really. R-Type and the like have never clicked with me, and I'm not much of a Gradius fan. Somehow I still like the hori levels in Salamander and Salamander 2 though.
I still need to try Gate and Lords, seeing as they're allegedly somewhat Thunderforce-like.
re: Progear, Sengoku Blaede - from developers that should have stayed exclusively vertical.

QFT. I too am not too hot on hori's, but love Border Down. I only spent about $40 on my copy though =/ I actually had to go check e-bay to make sure after reading your post ... when did the price on Border Down skyrocket? I mean, I could almost see that for the special edition thing, but there's a non-special edition copy up for $113 o_OCMoon wrote:Not a huge Horizontal fan, but Border Down definitely wins me over (not sure if it is worth the 100+ dollare purchase, but still...)
