Been a fan of shmups since they first came out. Used to bug my mum for 10p's to play 'Scramble' and 'Defender' in the arcades that have long since vanished.
Always on the look out for new Shmups- feel free to suggest any you think i'll like.
Massive fan for horizontal Shmups- like Rtype- Xmultiply etc etc

This community is a bit vert-centric, but you can't go wrong with Gradius V.

You'll never get past the lazer defences and Bydo engineered guard dogs.

Border Down, Bakuretsu Muteki Bangaioh N64, and 'Shadow of the Colossus'? What the heck!
You're a fraud!

Otherwise, very nice set.

If there is one thing I'll give you props for it's this: Attack of the Mutant Camels. What a name.

You get bonus points for those five Jaguar games. Seems most collectors completely overlook Atari's later systems.

Nice to see someone else who favors horizontal shmups more than vertical ones. I was starting to feel a bit like a lone outcast

I've always favoured the horizontal ones- quite like multidirectional ones like 'Strikeforce' from Midway 0running through MAME. Also 'Cyberun' on the Sinclair Spectrum. -There were some nice wee shooters like Zynaps and Uridium on the Spectrum.- Very good for their time and still very playable too.

Horiz for me too (or Gradius more specifically). There seems to be very little variation and originality in vertical shmups.

Yes- i've always found horizontal to be more graphically diverse- with each level taking on a different scene.
I'm not averse to the verticals totally- some of the Saturn Shooters are excellent- but mostly they seem to be about flooding the screen with bullets and trying to dodge and weave to survive.
That sounds a bit negative- its not meant to be.

Think it probably comes from the early days when a lot of the games i played were horizontals- i always wanted to know- what happened next...

I dont feel the same about verticals.

Nah, there's a few of us out there :) One of my favorites is Gleylancer for the MD! I generally find horiz shmups more of a challenge and more interesting than verts (excluding stuff like Image Fight 2) because of the level designs. How many verts have you played that you have to dodge scenery in the same way you do in horiz shmups? It's much less common in verts.
