Beginning to like this game, especially needing to ram myself at enemies 4 times a stage to bring rank down.

The 900k score is from a run before the comp started. I'll get it again.

Normally, I don't like Psikyo, but I really like this game. The one hit boss kills are frickin' sweet.

At the moment I'm mainly trying to pinpoint the locations of the coin spweing thingamabobs without using an FAQ or the like...that ought to be enough to keep me busy most of the week, since I'm never going to get beyond stage 5 in this thing, if I even get that far.

Why this act of heroism BM - I mean, without a faq or a webpage or someone telling you, you wouldn't even be aware of their existence, would you?

Turrican - Team Old Schoolers - 390,700 - 1-4 - Quaid - PS2(yoko)

Might as well be my last score for day 1. I'm pretty satisfied to have learned at least three stages out of the initial four.

As with all Psikyo's games, I absolutely hate the random stage thing - I must learn not how to survive four stages, but sixteen. :?

EDIT:
I suppose if you put it that way it seems like a great task, but really it's not that horrible.
I try not to think about that so much, once I'm down with a stage, difficulty isn't a big deal.
In the end the memorization comes down to 14 for me.
Currently I'm not even 1/4 of the way through though.

Heh, it's not exactly "heroism," though you're (probably) right that I wouldn't have known the things existed had I not heard about them someplace earlier (I might've happened upon one eventually by chance, but who knows). Still, I haven't bothered enough with the game to know exactly where they are, and prefer to figure it out myself, if for no other reason than giving myself the illusion that I'm accomplishing something as I play, since there's no way I'll ever seriously contend at this game, heh heh. I don't mind if others study up on the game or whatever, but since I'm not looking to win anything I don't mind taking the scenic route.
14. Very Happy
Dragon Blaze goes to 1-7 only.
Rinse and repeat.
I think he means that he has to learn the first 4 stages at 4 different levels of difficulty, depending on which order they appear in, for a total of 16 "stages" not counting the final 3, which are always in the same order and at the same difficulty.

They're not that different. Just practice the versions of 1-4 a few times.

You understood me, yay! :)
Rob wrote:They're not that different. Just practice the versions of 1-4 a few times.
Different enough as I often no-missed the first two stages (whichever they were), only to reach stage "3" and "4" when it becomes pink bullet hell and poor Quaid is wasted... :x

Maimana and Alger are a little easier than Shaba and Haradh, but what really sets the difficulty in the end is the order. "Fourth" is sure tough to beat.

I assume it's clever for a coin-operated machine, but I'm more fond of a traditional "choose your stage" a la TF.

While not different, the paths you can successfully take through a level get fewer and fewer the higher in rank you go (stages 1 through 4).

And stages 5-7 strategies vary based on the current rank as well. The book spawner enemies shoot wickedly quick when rank is cranked. It is pretty satisfying to dragon shoot the demon and the spawner.

Honestly I liked Ian much more, but switched to Quaid because Ian's smart bomb... is too powerful. It always kills the boss when I use it to cancel some pink garbage and reach the core...

edit: but since the week is long, I won't mind to dedicate a day to each character if I see it profitable... Like BM said, let's take the scenic route ;-)

I honestly can't say why my Quaid runs keep getting me the highest scores when I play...I don't particularly "like" him any more than the other characters, but somehow I always end up with more points when I play with him, and I have no clue why.

To Edge: One more question. The PS2 version of this allows you to set an autofire button, but I have no idea whether or not it matches the "delay of 5" setting when playing on MAME. As such, is autofire allowed on the PS2 version?

Bomb lasts long, deals little damage. Clears screen. Ideal for technical bonus.

Low speed loss when not on dragon, allowing for convenient dual-area collecting.

To Edge: One more question. The PS2 version of this allows you to set an autofire button, but I have no idea whether or not it matches the "delay of 5" setting when playing on MAME. As such, is autofire allowed on the PS2 version?
What's the difference if you're using a supergun with a stick that has built-in hardware autofire.
I think the question should regard autofire altogether.
