What's different about "fixed" ver. of Ketsui PCB?
Ever since Cave produced a number of Ketsui arcade PCBs, unless you sent yours in to have it "fixed" by Cave themselves, your Ketsui PCB is the "buggy" version. Cave also requested 20,000+ yen upfront for this service on "buggy" Ketsui PCBs.
My question is this: What are the differences between a "fixed" version of Ketsui compared to a Ketsui PCB with bugs still embedded in the ROMs?
If a fellow shmupper were to get ahold of a "fixed" Ketsui PCB, then EPROM burning services would be possible to fix the rest of our fellow shmuppers' Ketsui PCBs as well. Don't you agree? ^_~

The "fixed" version was a very insignificant fix. The original print boards had the kanji of 絆地獄 reversed in a mirrored sense. If I've been informed correctly, you had to mail in your EPROM with the sticker to CAVE for a fee and they would reprint one for you with the correct kanji.
On a side note, there's a "fixed" version up on YAJ right now.

Isn't this kind of a no-brainer? "Bugs fixed" = no bugs. Or are you looking for description of what the bugs are? There's a few, but it's nothing that will crash or break the game, just annoyances.
I wish you had posted the question/topic in this existing thread:

I have some other things to clear up, namely about the EPROM label. guess I'll post later
p.s. The "switch of death" on the PCB is a myth. The switch is just for power reset and doesn't change the appearance of bugs in any way.

Actually, the free play bug does sort of crash the game. it locks up hard, at least for me.oxtsu wrote:Isn't this kind of a no-brainer? "Bugs fixed" = no bugs. The 'freeplay' bug goes like this:oxtsu wrote:Yes, I think it does vary. I've never had it lock with freeplay. The only thing I've gotten with it is a continuous and rather annoying continous credit feed sound. Unless this bug is unrelated to freeplay (?).
Put the board in freeplay
during the attract mode, when it's doing the 'demonstration' press start. You will start a game, but be unable to control anything; it will select a ship for you and start the first stage. You will be unable to control the ship here; it will still be running the demonstration 'macro'. When it reaches the end of the demo macro, it will lock up. Music will probably still play for a bit, but that's it.
If you press start outside of 'demo' mode, things work just fine.

No. I don't even set my board to freeplay because of the lock-up bug, I'm too stupid and impatient to wait until demo mode is over to hit start. I think I've had the credit sound repeat once or twice, but it would go away when the game started.oxtsu wrote:So you've never gotten this grating credit feed sound in freeplay?
If your board doesn't lock up like I described in freeplay; time to dump that rom.

I've updated my original post with an image of a doctored label since it had expired from the image server.oxtsu wrote:I wish you had posted the question/topic in this existing thread: http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?t=9528

If anyone has a complete bugfix list please post it in the original thread.

This thread still alive?
What about the demo-play crashing bug? I've never heard of the bug that zakk describes. I have, however, witnessed two boards that will crash (dump some error code on an otherwise black screen) during auto-play if the board has yet to be played since the last boot. If you play a credit, then let auto-play run, it's fine.
There is, of course, the stage 5 sound bug, where the music plays at half-speed. That, is fucking annoying.
