Default settings for Tecmo: Arcade Classics on XBOX is VERY EASY. I'd be happy to play at that setting; it's still plenty challenging. I assume, though, that I should crank the difficulty up.

Default difficulty in MAME is Easiest which I assume correlates to Very Easy in the port.

But Autofire is on by default and I don't see a way of turning it off (it may be obvious and I'm just dumb, I dunno).

Is the autorate on the ports equal to the standard rate on PCB/MAME? Or is it blazingly fast?

I think most of us would be happier if that were actually the case.

I'd like to inform everyone that Auto Fire is accecpted.
BUT ONLY if you change the Auto Fire delay settings in MAME. You have to set it to the value of 5. Otherwise you'll get an inhuman fire rate, which is a violation of the tournament rules.

Image
(Simply switch this "P1 Autofire Delay" in the Auto Fire menu to 5, thanks.)

Apologies, in my euphoria I actually got the digits mixed up, that score was 363,500!

Never mind though, because I started using the trick to get the 50000 bonus successfully, so:

CIT - Team Germany - 638,000 - Iota (9)

Image

I'm having trouble getting the 80000 bonus from the arrows though. Does it only work with the long double columns of arrows, or also with the arrow rows that are aligned horizontally? As in: If you shoot just one horizontal row (top or bottom) and do this for 15 arrows without missing one, do you also get the bonus?

I have absolutely no idea what's going on. From CIT's post I figure that there are lots of secret bonuses to get, but all I found out so far is the use of the B and b icons. What do the others do? (The Smiley faces, the arrows, the H.)

Is there rank in the game? I seem to notice that the enemies shoot more and faster when I pick up the powerup. Or is this just coincidence?

I believe it's only on the long double columns.

I see. So what does one do with the horizontal batches then? Just make sure to nail em all?

B/b are Bonus panels, you get extra points for shooting all of them in one level, and points are subtracted for missing one.
With the smileys one of them in the batch is a 1UP, so make sure you shoot as many as possible.
The arrows get you a nice bonus of 80000 if you shoot 15 in a row where there is a vertical column of them (you have to stay with one column though). Not sure yet what to do about the regular arrow batches.
The H is a hidden Bonus, don't remember how many points exactly.

You're right about the rank going up when you pick up the Purser (the power up). You really need that Purser though, to unlock the game's biggest secret. ;)

question for users of MAme32Plus: is there a "save highscores on exit" option?
Also do I need the highscore.dat file to save highscores?

I've had some good runs but forgot to take a snapshot. After exiting game and booting it up again my scores are gone. :(

Early score for Team Loser...

Don't have MAME Plus, so no autofire for me...

Am I the only one who wishes you could access the top 25 percent or so of the screen? Doesn't make avoiding getting trapped any easier...

I don't mean to doubt your honesty in posting scores, BUT this score is not possible in Star Force as the game only awards points by the straight 100s.

Every score in Starforce has to end with two zeros.
