Yeah, there's plenty of us around. Don't feel so bad. Maybe we should all start a self-help club for people who for whatever reason can't get PCBs? :D

Thanks for the links. You should have warned people to mute the volume, unless they want to be treated to something worse than "its a small world after-all" in japanese. :?

I think I saw the word "box" in there someplace too...too bad I couldn't read anything else, heh heh.

Thanks for the link, though every oddball cosplay sequence I see from Cave makes me wonder anew whether some of 'em should be committed.
They say they've decided to make a DVD of the Promo vid with 'extra special' content of the cosplay girls. It will be full of "special" content "we know you want to see". At this point, I really wouldn't be surprised if it's some lesbian softporn vid.

I don't think anyone has asked yet. How big is the hit box?

I can only guess it's similar to that of the first game...seeing as more stuff tends to be thrown at you I doubt they're making it bigger, and on the flipside, I don't think it could get much smaller even if they wanted it to, heh heh.

Reko must be jealous, since her beetle doesn't come with E-Z-Grip handles on the wings like Palm's dragon does, heh heh. Also, am I the only one reminded of one of Kenta Cho's games by the little triangle thingies coming from the dragon's wings (sort of like the circle things that come from the beetle's wings)? It even has the hitbox dot in the center.

awesome sprite usage, i wonder if this will run smooth on a ps2..

did nobody notice that in the last two posted videos the games runs on a 16:9 screen in fullscreen, all known tate shmps run in 3:4.
maybe this is the first 9:16 shmup.
or they just scaled the picture.

I'm pretty sure there won't be any more Cave PS2 ports. Whether they decide to start porting to a next gen console is anyone's guess. We could be entering a new period of 'no ports' similar to what happened in the late 90s (with Esprade, Dangun, Guwange, and Progear). I hope I'm wrong though, I'd love to have a Galuda 2 port with practice modes to use!

Agg, that T-Rex is so lame. I'm not feeling this game, it just seems cobbled together.

Has something changed since ibara was released?

How come a port isn't likely to happen?

It's pure speculation, but ESPGaluda II was very successful as an arcade game. Far more than Ibara ever dreamed of being. We're just nearing it's first birthday, and no mention of a port.

Looks very promising, I think that T-Rex boss looks pretty badass too.

but what is with the INSANE amount of point numbers during explosions (like in Galuda II)? They're just asking for slowdown which it looks like these games are suffering a lot from (though I've only seen videos). Slowdown works in some cases for 1P shooters but that kind of slowdown will murder the 2player mode :(

Slowdown is fine...

Are you on drugs; two players!!!

This looks brilliant, the art looks nice too - why did they put the logo over the dragons head though... that seems like a pretty basic design error!

Yeah that does look odd, they should have shrunk the logo a bit or something...

It could be Cave are waiting for the game's popularity in the arcade to start dipping before a home port is announced? They would want to sell as many arcade kits as possible after all. But I think I'm just doing a bit of wishful thinking, a port to a next gen machine looks the most likely/only hope. :(

i'm hoping for that too. and it does seem like a sensible strategy for at the moment they announce the port the popularity of ESPgaludda II in arcades would proabably decrease rapidly. also thought it was hopeful that the OST came with a full-fledged arrange(d) disc. oh well, guess we'll see if it comes around or not. :/

back on topic: i think mushi 2 looks mighty nice. the more i see it the more i want to play it but unlike many of you i don't like the flyer artwork at all.

i saw that as well and i've been wondering about it. the location test vids look like 3:4 to me but neither that one or the promo vid looked deformed so i'm guessing the 9:16 is just a special render / capture for the promo. would be cool though to have a 9:16 game shooter. though Star Soldier on the psp runs in tate on a 16:9 screen so there is atleast one 9:16 shmup.
warning: a huge warning sign is approaching fast!

I actually doubt this. Cave are going to aim for the largest market share, which is obviously PS2... and that isn't going to change for at least another year.

We can always hope that they're trying to convince Mihara and Arika to come back into the fold.

That's most likely what it was. Just a special re-render for the show.

What on earth does re-render mean? The monitor is obviously stretching the image.

edit: Moreover, those two crappy LCDs were displaying games in-progress, coming from two of the six cabs at the show. The image was stretched beyond belief and looked horrible.

At least at the AOU the LCDs they used for PinkSweets were 4:3.

Why the hell did they use widescreen monitors this time?

I bet its the same one guy who is responsible for upscaling the ports. He has to be put to death asap.

Ok, from the video, the stretching really isn't all that apparent. As you stated though, being there and seeing it firsthand makes all the difference.

Hey, check out the official website. Looks like there is more back story and the bio for the new boss character.

I took the liberty of translating it for practice. I welcome corrections and suggestions; translation is hard! I really want to get better.

Larsa

Queen of the Ephemeral Temple and mother of Palm.
Assuming that her son Aki was killed by Reco, she burns with anger.
With her power she holds back many terrible beasts to protect the temple.

"Oh ho ho ho, kill, kill, kill Reco!"

Prologue

Reco, a daughter of Hoshifuri Village (the village of falling stars) defeated Aki, and inhereted the position of custodian spirit of shinjugamori.
Kiniro recovers from his wounds there, and Reco regained her heart*, but lately there seems to be an uneasiness.
One day, while Reco was taking her usual stroll through the forest, she happened upon a lone boy.
He had collapsed while leading along a large animal.

"Hey, are you alright," asked Reco, looking into his face.

Opening his eyes, the boy gazed at Reco.

"Where... am I?" the boy asked Reco.
"This place is called Shinjugamori, but I thought that humans couldn't enter this place." "I'm Reco, the goddess who protects this forest."

At Reco's words, the boy appeared shocked, and his words began to flood forth like a burst dam.
He must go to the Ephemeral Village in the depths of the Crystal Sea.
That is his village, which is in danger, under attack from shelled beasts.
The name of the boy who said all of this is Palm.

Palm: "If you are really a goddess then you should be able to stop their schemes."
Reco: "Does that mean that you want me to help you?"

Palm nodded vigorously.

Reco: "Hmm, that's a problem, isn't it. On the one hand, if I leave this forest unattended, there could be a bad situation. On the other hand, I can't just ignore someone who's in trouble..."

Reco thought worriedly until she came to a conclusion.

"OK! I've decided: if my power will be of use then I'll cooperate with you.
Anyway, Aki would surely understand."

Reco: "By the way, whose the big guy behind you?"
Palm: " Oh, that's my friend Hirow, a dragon. He carried me this far."
Reco: "Oh alright, how do you do, Hirow?"
Palm: "So, you'll go for me, g- godde-..."
Reco: "You can call me Reco! Palm..."
Palm" "Um, uh ok then, Ms. Reco, he he."

And so Reco and Palm left Shinjugamori behind them, and left on a journey.
However, Reco had no way of knowing the ill fate that would befall the forest
that had been left without its god.

*I don't know what this means. Maybe it's a reference to the ending of the first one which I've never seen.

I was wondering if anyone had a Reko animated gif?

I've been trying to find the gif of Reko walking on the "Now Loading" screen but haven't had any luck :(

I'm just wondering if I'm the only person who figured out that you can make her run by doing 360s on the joystick (or joystick wiggling)...? Get her all the way across the screen and she collapses in a tired heap.

I usually just tap the joystick right and left real fast while hammering the A and B buttons. Quite a few of us figured that out way back when the port was first released. It was discussed in the original Mushi PS2 thread.
