Quick stupid question: I don't usually use savestates in MAME, but for this I'd like to, as suggested in the voting thread, just to start with the default rank down...since I've never done it before, what buttons/commands do I use to save/load a state in MAME? Thanks in advance, and best of luck to all. :)

Shift + F7 = Save State (press a number from 1 to 9 to save into that position)
F7 = Load State (same as above, 1-9 to load from)

Make sure you let the game load up fully from bootup before reloading a state, or the game gets mangled.

F10 = Throttle
Speeds up the emulation by quite a bit, useful for letting the attract sequence cycle through faster.

in mame, press TAB, select "User Interface" and voila there are all the mame options you'll need and more. F7 is the correct button in this case iirc..
And good luck to everyone indeed! :)

I'll start us off, since there were a lot of complaints during the Blazing Star week about namakoteam not posting until the end. Have to get reacquainted with this game, since I haven't played it for a while.

Oh, and I HATE YOU ENVY!

ADVANCED COURSE
5,057,720 - Icarus - Stage 5 - Strawman (A) - [WolfMAME]

Come and get me.

EDIT: Added the format I'm playing on to the score post.

Ha! Couldn't at all do with the fact that you have experience with this game already and feel confident in the fact that few can hope to catch up.

I see right through you. 8)

Actually, the nice thing about Batrider is that its very open-ended with respects to scoring - there's a ton of secrets available, and most have been documented in the GD thread - unlike Bakraid and Great Mahou which have very rigid scoring structures. Whether or not players are capable of fitting them all in one credit is another matter entirely.

I think it'll be a good week. ^_-

As for experience with the game... well, I have experience with all Raizing games (given I'm one of the few 100% Raizing fanatics on this board), so I would have been comfortable with whatever was selected anyway. ^_-

Good luck everyone! I'm coming for you, Cigs! ^_-

Thanks to Icky et al. :)

Just as a side point, though it's probably obvious, you might want to make a side point regarding the "invincibility" and "bullet speed" secrets (perhaps others? those are the only two "exceptions" I can think of) when you say ALL secrets allowed...

First blood for Team Loser...threw myself at the mercy of Random Select and ended up with the best score of my first attempt:

BulletMagnet - Team Loser - 2,496,780 - Stage 5 - Silver Sword(B)/Wild Snail(C)/Miyamoto(A)

So much to love about this game, but so much to hold it back, at the same time...

Lost medals once in level 1, then kept them all the way through level 5. I've never made it to level 5 before so I got excited and started taking screenshots. I lost both of my lives while I was reaching for the screenshot button. What a waste.

ADVANCED
5,551,440 - Landshark - Stage 6 - Strawman (A) - [Mame32PLUS!]

So glad I did NOT draw envy.

BTW, I have no idea how you guys get save states to work with this game. I've tried waiting for it to boot and everything - I always get a corrupt screen. One of the times it had a constant flow of enemies that never ended flying down at me and collision detection was off (and the statue liberty was in the back). I sat there for 5 minutes or so killing them and stopped at 500k. Theoretically, you could counter stop it =) It'd take a few days though.

Woot. Now to practise stage6 again. -_-;;

Took on Blunt and Envy again, and came out unscathed. Got taken out by the first turret wall, with an inaccurate dodge through the last rotary pattern.

Pause the game at the title screen before saving a state. When you reload the state the title screen will be fubared. Just insert a coin and press Start and the graphics will fix themselves.

Envy is a god damned whore. If I draw him, it's game over. He's stopped me everytime on boss rush as well.

Old friend from Battle Garegga had to rear his ugly head with a bullet pattern you have to bomb past. Also am I the only one who notices the Raiden Fighters influence?

There are no secret commands that influence enemy bullet speed. There is, however a command that changes YOUR firing speed, which is basically the same result as using autofire.

(For shits and giggles, always set the firing rate to #60 and hold the fire button down. You'll max rank out by stage 3!)

You should explicitly specify which revision, since there are differences. Likely we should all be using japanese rev B.

Is this true? Does increasing your firing rate increase rank?

It's true in Garegga, Bakraid, and Ibara so I don't see why it would be any different for Batrider, which happens to be the easiest of the four.

Ok thanks for that, I wasn't aware of that fact. I'll try it out tonight, Cheers :)

So I guess I'll be chasing your B score then  ?

So I guess I'll be chasing your B score then  ?
Don't get me wrong here -- scoring well in this game is much harder than completing it, but it's not as horrible a task as it is in the other three (you get one and a half bombs added to your stock per death, for one)

The best I can eke out of Garegga is 7.1m, and that's after several dozen hours of play time. Now, not even playing this game for months and getting st6/4m right off the bat...
so long and tanks for all the spacefish
unban shw
<Megalixir> now that i know garegga is faggot central i can disregard it entirely

Yeah, I think my best score on this was around 2 million (on normal course), but I've 1cc it a couple of times (Again, in normal course). By far the easiest Raizing game, though it's no push over.

Never tried Advance mode for serious. Can't wait 'til I get home to play it, now with an arcade stick and all :)

4 to 5mil in stage6 will probably be the average for this week. If anything though, you should be at 4mil by the start of stage5.
I reckon most will get assraped by Grubby if and when they get to it. ^_-

Protip: That turret wall becomes a lot harder to destroy if you bomb it, as you destroy the little turrets that cover it, making it fire a more aggressive spreadshot. ^_-

You're not kiddin'!

Reaching ST6 is not hard.
Going through to the Advance ALL is.

Playing Advance with a proper team of 3 different characters selected with A, B and C and triggering all 11 extra bosses is very hard indeed!

Anyway, I'm off to the arcade now to start my Grudge Match with Icarus.
