Samson MD - Mystery Shooter?

I recently found a screenshot of this game and as it was described to be "space tortoise shell boat 우 주 거 북 선 Samson".
Now I've heard of a game before by the name Samson and on MegaDrive and apparently it's not very common but needless to say I've found zero info on this game anywhere.
Anyone have any further info?

Sorry, no further info. But it gains several thousand win points for the oars thing 8) Maybe it's called New Century Super Dimensional Space Dragon Galleon or something?

space tortoise? I remember Super Laydock had an obscure Korean turtle shooting game for MD - maybe he can help you.

Edit: Korean title is Uzu Keobukseon

Crazy Koreans. That's a Korean region game.

Hard to find them now and days.

Sega-16 wrote:Now here's a rarity for you. Distributed in Korea by Samsung, Space Turtle Battleship, or Keo-Buk-Son översatt, was released in 1992 and was promptly passed over by every U.S. publisher known to man.
Hehe, that's funny. "Översatt" means translated in swedish, he must have gotten the information from a swede and misinterpreted the title. :)

Somewhat obscure, but it doesn't seem to be super rare (as with many other samsung published games, such as the korean version of Eliminate Down).
If you want more info, go ask on the assembler forums, I know someone there has it.

I've seen the boxart, it does exist! Just google Eliminate Down + Korea, I'm sure you'll find something...

EDIT: I managed to find a small picture of the box.

Yup I have that game, boxed with manual and stuff. 8)
Back when I had no name for it, Twe offered to translate the title and came up with "Turtle ship".
It's been almost literally ages ages since I played it and I can't now because I haven't got a working megadrive atm. :(

Bad quality I know (sorry camera is broken, need a new one fast), but you can actually see Sonic on the front as well. :D

Don't waste your time unless you're a collector. The game itself harkens back to Compile...without the polish. It's your bog-standard shooter. There are stages to your weapons, and taking a hit won't kill you if you're above the standard weapon. Instead, it will merely drop you back down a weapon level. If you do die, however, the game uses a checkpoint system. Also, once you level up, your oars disappear in favor of jets. Simple bosses too.

They should make a sequel where your options are pirates riding on burning sharks.

CIT - I know Korean, but can't help with the spelling because no Korean support on my keyboard. It's pronounced "Ooh Joo Guh Buk Sun" and is based on an old Korean general who founght off invaders with ships that looked like the ships on the cover.

From what I remember, the real turtle ships were enclosed and had spikes on the tops, to make it more difficult for attackers to get on the top and attack the men on the ship.

Here's the wikipedia article on it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turtle_Ships

Thanks for that Wiki entry!

Turns out it gives the spelling there: 거북선 :)
