Anyway, yes it's a shitty score, especially when you consider that I actually beat the game. But now that I can add a new game to my 1CC list, I'm taking a break from this game. I need it just to get the damned announcer's voice out of my head.

"BONAAAH!" "BONAAAH!" "BO-BO-BONAAAH!"

Posting a quick follow-up due to the massive score increase. Though the game kind of makes sense now, I still don't particularly like it.

Does anyone have this superplay and can save it at a lower quality/cut sound out/whatever? 300mb would take me 7+ hours to download. Failing that, the scores by stage/boss?

68 million wtf. I need to know how and where.

How much before the final stage? I just don't intend to milk that boss.

I try to milk 3/4/6 to the point of the boss running away and that's a huge gap.

Well, a bit better. I need to learn to milk the bosses.

At max rank, about 15 million is gained from the stage 6 boss milking portion. SAI enters stage 7 at a little below 64 million points.

There's a 128x event trick for destroying one of the large missile sub-ships for a whopping 6.4 million points.

Here, I cut it down to 50mb (no audio, 50% of the original resolution). You should be able to make out the scores, approximately.

Not to bad for a 1 eyed looser, garenteed i will shatter this score by the end of the week though. I still dont get how people get 12 million on stage 4....i must not be chaining everything right.

Can someone describe how to enable autofire for MAME .98? It doesn't seem to work the same way as Edge described for the later version.

You need to use Mame32Plus to enable autofire like he described. I don't think autofire can be enabled in standard mame.

Last update for today, I swear!

Galdur - Team Canada - 18,971,270 - 5 - Windina

EDIT: This game requires the player to do some very specific (and obtuse) things before it relinquishes the big points. Lots of people are probably very confused and wondering why their scores are so low. Clearly the high scorers don't want to reveal their scoring strategies, but perhaps for future rounds important game/chaining rules should be disclosed before the week begins so everyone has a chance.

Thanx to changing tips with a few teammates, I managed to better my score, in spite of chaining a lot WORSE now with the Peplos ship.

Is it ilegal to use Save States for Practicing? I think I need to get the last pattern of the 3rd boss rightly to beat it, and using a save state here to understand it better would help me a lot.

In the old shmeet hosted by Ramus I used it a lot in Cyvern and Gradius.

I've been doing some espionage, and it appears there isn't much team communication either, so you're not alone. ^_-
There are some comprehensive strats posted in our Strategy Forum (like this one), as well as one decent thread at super-play.co.uk's forum, and one at Arcade Extreme (needs Babelfishing).

Those tips are free of charge. ^_-

Improved my score a lot

Image

Shatterhand - Team Old Schoolers - 4,039,370 - 1-4 - Peplos - Mame

Had never seen level 4 before... got there after losing only 1 live for the 3rd boss (That last pattern of him is great for milking, but a pain in the ass to milk).. just shot everything without trying to chain anything in level 4, died once for a rear enemy (The 2nd wave of smaller ships, the 1st one which actually seemed to be harder I managed to dodge), then died for a bullet I didn't see coming.

I used to hate that game, now I kinda starting to aprecciate it...

Am I doing it right?

Collect first score multiplying angel before the last enemy wave to appear before the toughish red ship on the first level. Collect the power up angel before the teensy enemy generator finishes spitting out enemies in order to maximize the powerup items.

Collect second score multipling angel during lull before boss fight. Kill boss ASAP, without causing second power up angel to appear

Activate second power up angel.... ???? sometime during first part of level two?

Therafter, shun score multipliers. Each one shunned doubles the value of the next, to a maximum value of 128. When you do collect the item, the point value of every enemy you destroy while under its influence is multiplied by the multiplier value of the angel. You'll need to know when activating the angels at X64 might get you more points than waiting for the X128 value.

Kill enemies with charge shot when possible.

Milk 2nd boss and beyond.

...that's what I've got so far.

Here's my FIRST TIME EVER playing Blazing Star score:

Zigfried - Feka USA - 1'292'600 - 4 - Hellhound - (MAME)

Next time, I plan to actually pick my ship instead of accidentally hitting the wrong button. ^_^

What a misleading scoring system. I spent the first 15 or so plays concentrating solely on chaining (not paying too much attention to the blue point items). Took me a while before I noticed that the point bonues increase w/ the more you get (w/o missing any).

Anyway, a few plays after this revelation:

DarkWolf7 - Feka USA - 5,178,920 - 4 - Windina (MAME)

Should definitely be able to improve this by the end of the week but posted it just in case I don't.
