Glitchy ESP Ra.De

Post by Acid King »

I got an ESP Ra.De. board yesterday from Excellentcom and I've noticed a few little glitches that didn't happen when I played/play it in MAME. First I noticed the status bars at the top and bottom of the screen would flicker if I fired during the mid boss' explosion on the high school stage. Also, at the end of several boss fights, the explosion after clearing one of the life bars bullets/bonus items sometimes flicker or disappear and reappear. Just curious if anyone else with the board has noticed these problems. I've got the international version.

Yea they all do that. No worries.

Ketsui also has some glitchy graphics, although I think they're cool. If you're packing the screen with bullets and chips, the game will slowdown so hard that the chips all blend into a bizarre mess. Makes me feel like I'm in the matrix.

Same sorts of things happen with the DDP PCB, like your ship disapearing when a boss explodes, and things blinking. I believe Pixelcorps termed some of these artifacts "sprite tearing" when he played my ESPRade PCB for the first time. I think all of Cave's games push the hardware to the maximum, and a bit beyond in some circumstances.

Yeah it seems like it. There's the effect in Ketsui like Kaneda said, the issue in DDP, ESP Ra.De. and the graphical problem with the gold ingots in ESP Galuda.

Yeah, it's actually not only limited to Cave games. My Dimahoo board does a similar thing as well...the bullets glitch and disappear sometimes right when I'm in the middle of a pattern! Really screws me up :?

I know. Battle Bakraid does that in a few spots as well.

The same can be said for the 7800 cart Desert Falcon...

Post by PC Engine Fan X! »

In the 7800 game cartridge of Desert Falcon, there's so much stuff happening on-screen that the framerate gets bogged down and "sprite tearing" occurs from time to time. I like how that the 7800 version of Desert Falcon is an 'isometric" based shmup in the vein of Zaxxon.

In theory, there are 512 different possible combos that one can make to get all the different power-ups, 1ups, etc in the 7800 version of Desert Falcon. ^_~

The Ketsui, DDP, and Galuda issue are all the same shortcoming of the PCB. Makes owning the port worthwhile.
