Ibara PCB question: Freeplay and coin errors

Post by EOJ »

I played my Ibara PCB a bit today. I got in the test menu,
but couldn't find an option for Freeplay anywhere. I've seen pics and vids of Ibara with Freeplay on, so I'm just wondering how to turn it on. I read the instruction sheet in Japanese, and it does not mention Freeplay anywhere.

Not sure, maybe I overlooked something very simple.

Go to the Test Menu and change the Coin Slot options to OFF (I think, can't remember exactly).

Took me a while to work it out as well. My supergun kept giving me coin errors that stopped after Free Play was switched on. -_-;;

Yeah I got some coin errors too! I was freaking out thinking my board was f'd. I found I can put in coins (virtually of course, I'm just using a supergun), but I have to tap the coin button really hard and only when the title screen has the timer counting down. Weird!

Yeah, I found that with mine as well. The odd thing was, I could insert and play the first coin after boot up, but the next attempt at 'inserting a coin' would give me the coin error that needed a board reset. Again, Free Play solved that problem.

I'm not entirely sure why it does that, as every other board I hook up works fine. -_-;;

Well, since it happens with both our boards, it's probably just something to do with the Ibara PCBs when attached to superguns. I'd like to hear from anyone with a cab to see if it happens in there as well.

It probably has something to do with the way a supergun is wired up, as it would be a nuisance if it happened in a cab as well. Imagine having to give an arcade attendant your credit money just to play the game. ^_-

Do the superguns actually trigger 'coin' or 'service'? Both usually trigger a credit, but they are different pins on the Jamma connector. I wonder if Ibara gets angry if you use service to trigger mulitple credits or something.

Yeah. Just seems weird as Mushi and Espgaluda 2 both play fine on a super gun without coin errors, and they're all on the same SH3 board.

I've got the same problem with my Ibara pcb on my New Astro City cab which has a button wired to the coin mech for adding credits.

Wow. So it isn't just with superguns. I wonder if this affects all the Ibara boards, or just a certain batch? I played Ibara at a couple arcades in Japan (on Egret II cabs), and never had any problems with coin errors. Strange.

For what it's worth, I can confirm both the Mushis do not suffer this problem on a cab, with a button hooked up to the coin input.

I wonder if ibara is overly sensitive to how LONG the coin input is active for? Us humans with our meat fingers pushing a button are going to hold it down longer than the coin mech would, which would explain why it likely doesn't freak out in arcade-installed cabinets.

Try being really fast ;)

I would not be astounded to find it to be a bug. Ketsui had a bug in FREE PLAY mode that if you started your game during the DEMO, you could not control your ship and it would just kinda control itself up into the corner or somthing. No problems when not in FREE PLAY mode, though.

Ibara plays fine on my cab in freeplay or with credits on.

The coin error seems to happen only when I don't release the pressure on the credit button fast enough.
No problem with Mushi.

Yeah, that "coin error" thing s an attept to catch fishers. if you try to dip the coin partway thru the gat wit a string, and pull it back ou tthe switch will close for too long and you will get a COIN ERROR.

My Ibara PCB in a New Astro City just gave me a coin error. It happened when I put a coin and and soon as I felt it go past the coin mech, I hit start. I let the game sit for roughly 55 seconds as I googled the answer, but it automatically reset itself back to the title screen with no credits.

I am thinking along the same lines as zakk. I built my Ibara PCB into a dedicated supergun, and the first button I installed onto the Coin pins kept giving coin errors, even when pressing the button really quickly. I swapped out the switch for a different (and uglier) one, and that one adds coins just fine pressing at a normal speed.

also happens with esperade and dodonpachi..only if you hold the credit button down tho. if i wire a credit button to the coin mech it does this but not when i wire a button to the credit switch on the power supply of a cab.
