GSK says:
this game was intended as one of the initial Bubble System releases in '84 but was shelved and eventually dredged up in '87 as a conversion kit... it's a shame, as it was showing its age even back then
Interesting! Count me among those who knew nothing about this one until today.

The older name title of "Attack Rush" was the original name that was supposed to be released on Konami's Bubble system setup back in 1984 before Konami resurrected it again in 1987 under the new namesake game title of "Hyper Crash."

Here's proof of the older "Attack Rush" arcade game flyer: https://gamesdb.launchbox-app.com/games ... yper-crash Did you notice that the CPU enemy cars look quite different in the earlier "Attack Rush" game build as shown in the arcade flyer? Konami went back and created all new CPU enemy cars just for the newer 1987 release of "Hyper Crash" indeed.

Fascinating arcade trivia/history to learn about nowadays in 2026 in regards to Konami's Attack Rush/Hyper Crash arcade games.

GSK invaluable as always! So that's 1984 for that rad explosion sound, damn. (uh, unless said boom was added in later on!)

Now I look at it, that explosive-triggered barrel roll into frog splash is some seriously crazy shit. :o And I thought City Bomber's "jumping car with buzzsaws takes out attack helis" was wild.
Buzzsaws: not just for trees, or cars!

I wonder if they were inspired by something from manga/anime/etc? The way enemy cars casually bust it out on you, too, really sublimates the effect. Now that's applied physics!

Amazing, I didn't know Konami was doing realistic simulations of US freeway driving back in the 80s.

Looks like the Chase H.Q. trademark is expired. Nobody has claimed it, but I suspect it doesn't bode well for an Arcade Archives release. Hopefully I'm way off base and it pops up in the weeks or months ahead.

Nice to see Hyper Crash. I briefly tried it on Game Room years ago but didn't buy it. I kind of regretted that in later years when Game Room was shuttered since I've grown to get into a lot of less than amazing 1980's era racing games (and they were only $3 a pop on Game Room, iirc), but never got around to trying it on MAME in the years since to see if my opinion had changed. It doesn't make a great first impression as I recall, but it just might grow on me if I give it a fair chance.

Great finds PCEFX, those flyers are stone cold. Twinbee never sounded so Darius-esque, this some existential warfare

BARREL-ROLLING CAR CRUSH will GIVE YOU A GLIMPSE OF ARMAGEDDON (`w´メ) (■`w´■)

I gotta say, besides having a much radder name - perhaps the raddest I've heard in recent memory - ATTACK RUSH looks cooler, too. Machines have more of a Road Warrior thing going on. I thought Hyper Crash looked kinda generic at a glance, until the player car did a sweet flip and put its tyres square through three different rivals' skulls. Now that's a cure for restless spirits!

I'm not sure it's worth the dip, but this game looks AWESOME in motion. Seems like it would have been a perfect fit for the Atari Lynx, which I would have played to death.
