GTA 6 Trailer released
https://youtu.be/QdBZY2fkU-0?si=Sf_eV4AX82pNjmxD
I haven't been much into AAA games lately, but this looks like something to get excited about. Unfortunately we have to wait until sometime in 2025 for it.

I like the "It Cures Emotions!" ad. Some Blue Channel vibes.

Lucia's fallen on some hard times since Lunar II, but I'm here for it.

The Who screaming YEEEEEEEAHHHHH! over that intro wouldn't be out of place, so I guess they hit the vibe.
Mighty long wait until 2025, though I'm three or four or five games behind on GTA anyway...

Games haven't been complete on disc for like 20 years so idgaf about this at all, but I have been looking forward to this day for a long while. Not because I hate physical media, I don't, but because I love the truth that hurts and when people are made to face it.
40 years ago if people could have easily & affordably downloaded their NES games through their telephone landline or satellite TV set top box they would have and Gamestop would have never been birthed from the Devil's saggy cored out butthole.

Bullshit on "I love the truth" when the first sentence in your post is misinformation that you did not fact check.JBC wrote: ↑Thu Jul 02, 2026 1:00 am Games haven't been complete on disc for like 20 years so idgaf about this at all, but I have been looking forward to this day for a long while. DLC and minor patches aside, most of the (PS5) games I've bought are complete on disc.
According to https://www.doesitplay.org/ then 66% of PS5 games do not require a download; 16% has minor issues (bugs, missing minor DLC) leaving 18% as incomplete on disc.
Those 18% are by harsh restrictions too. Games are listed as "Download required" only on account of them advertising DLC on the box (code only, that you can't play without internet). Those 18% also includes multiplayer only titles.
Some of the bugs cited across the 16% with minor bugs and the 18% with more major bugs are also ones that were still in there in the day 1 patch, or even to this day. No one but the most dedicated people test the game by running through it two times both patched and unpatched.
That's not getting into that you said "for like 20 years", for PS3 (2006) then 95% (6% of which have minor issues) of games did not require a download.
I'm sure you're going to have a nuanced take like "If I can't have every bit of cosmetics DLC the game is incomplete" now, but that's not what anyone read into your original message and you know it. You do not love truth.
Don't worry though, misinformation like yours have already won, Sony's stopping physical disc production in 2028. What's your prize you ask? Why, higher (dynamic!) prices for all games of course! Thank you for your service.
It is a factor for me when deciding when to buy the game, digital always means I'm willing to spend less money on any given game. And yeah, I will be buying GTA VI at some point, when and at what price (also) depends on the quality of the game. That seems to be an unknown factor at this point.
Unless you meant "anyone" as any large number of people, then no. People do not care about physical games at all.

Re: GTA 6 Trailer released
Yeah almost every physical game with an offline single player mode contains a playable build on disc/card. Put console in offline mode. Insert disc. Install game. Play through game
Exceptions: Game key cards, Microsoft first party titles since Gears Tactics, the odd release here and there (usually because someone's shat out a shoddy build with game-ruining bugs or they hit a storage limit and didn't want to pony up for a 2nd disc)
Switch lets you skip downloads while in online mode, xbox doesn't - which might be where the misconception comes from. But pop the xbox into offline line and it'll install purely from disc and be fully playable offline
The whole "discs haven't had the full game for years" thing is not true in the slightest. But I suppose society is all about spreading misinformation these days

You're just trolling, but I had to point out your misinformation to others, because lots of people are buying this. Trolls like you helping with game publisher's astroturfing campaigns is part of the reason why physical gaming is practically dead now. A small part, but still, you won, misery for everyone is incoming.

Re: GTA 6 Trailer released
I haven't bought physical media since 2007 when I sold a collection that required its own room, and the only games I bought that I don't have (legit) access to are Outrun 2 and Afterburner Climax. Both of which I can play in 4K on PC any time I feel like it. In 19 yrs of digital only purchases, no one has taken anything else from me.
All of the games I once collected up to then are all on my PC and perform better than they ever did on their respective console.
I haven't looked back.
For clarity, I should add that I got a disk copy of PS3 MGSV for £10 from a coupon on Hot UK Deals and that was the last disk I bought.

Re: GTA 6 Trailer released
Part of the reason why digital gaming is very good now is the competition. If they don't offer a top notch service, people will either buy physical or go to a competitor.AGermanArtist wrote: ↑Fri Jul 03, 2026 9:15 am I haven't bought physical media since 2007 when I sold a collection that required its own room, and the only games I bought that I don't have (legit) access to are Outrun 2 and Afterburner Climax. The last straw for me was the death of the BR drive on my PS3 100hrs into MGS5, I haven't looked back.
With Microsoft getting even less relevant as a competitor with multiple studio closures soon and Sony shutting down production of physical games for their system, things are going to get worse for everyone.

Can we at least have one fucking messageboard without this sort of childish bickering and posting just for the sake of "owning" someone? We're all at least in our fourties here (I assume), let's just have grownup interactions.

I'm sorry you guy's plastic storage medium lacks some data. Luckily you can easily store the complete data on a better medium directly inside the computer box now.

Re: GTA 6 Trailer released
$ony and others like M$ and N$ are NOT making any money on second hand sales of games. Far from it.
So they are abandoning the whole fans collecting their stuff-thing altogether.
But where one falls, another stands up. Case in point AES+, also many other physical old console releases are released. It is still a great gaming world. Sony is really steering us more towards retro collecting and no more current gen collecting.
The PS6 obviously will not feature a disc drive nor will there ever be an attachment for it.
Someday a company might release a 3rd party drive for the PS6 (for past gen discs), but Sony will patch that out immediately

Re: GTA 6 Trailer released
I like and use both for their different strengths. If my Switch physical collection burns/stops working, I will still have more digital games to play than I have time, especially shmups. Should I in decades, as a grandpa, lose access to my digital Eshop games, I will have my physical games (if they'll still work and the device still works or is back compatible). Until then I'll keep buying primarily physical and sometimes digitally (discounts or too big for physical like Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth on Switch 2). Physical has the advantage, as long as it works, that you can sell it. I will never pay full price for digital games (I bought the Japanese versions of FF7 on Switch 2 which are way cheaper). I think Nintendo will embrace physical longer than the other 2.

That's not a high bar exactly, considering the state of the other two. I would hardly say Nintendo is embracing physical either.

Maybe, but only if the download cost less than the physical game, because games were traded between friends, resold or were second-hand.JBC wrote: ↑Thu Jul 02, 2026 1:00 am Games haven't been complete on disc for like 20 years so idgaf about this at all, but I have been looking forward to this day for a long while. Today, however, not only can you no longer resell or trade them, but you even pay more for them...
GTA6 represents the collapse of the system; releases have been moved from November, and even those in the next 6-12 months will be affected solely by the existence of GTA6 and probably the rest of the gen.
It seems like all the developers have said, "Okay, the gen ends on November 2026."
I expect everything to be moved to PS6 or Helix because the all-time blockbuster is coming and there's no room for anyone else. There is mass hysteria.
