Ugly sleeve for a cracking Rainbow LP... and tbh I never rated X-M's title screen very highly either, although the unsettling X-TREEEM CLOSEUP works better in daemonic techno-horror than feelgood ROCKIN.

Incidentally, Bring On The Night's subtitle is DREAM CHASER. Not the most unique title, but with all the odd places Blackmore & Co appear in JP game music lore, it wouldn't surprise me. The songs' vibes most definitely synchronise at any rate, holy fuuuck! Image Image

>Starstruck (off Rising)
>Lightningstruck (Trigon's "Faraway," off Naoto Shibata & co's Perfect Selection Konami Shooting Battle)

Would be remiss not to include Shibata Project's "Nostalgic," also Trigon; one of the ultimate AST hair metal ballads. Image Image

Definitely among the best menu themes I've ever heard. You gotta have gusto like this in action games, man.

Man I can't get over Konami's late 80s AC musical chops. :o Every random pick harbours face-melting brilliance! I only know HAWT CHASE as the game whose staff assisted the struggling Haunted Castle; then a random horror sidescroller fallen behind schedule, gifted the shiny new Dracula IP. Then they were recalled to their original project, and HC got booted out half-baked. 3; BUT WITH SHAWEET BGM :3

Now, the audio quality's not as great as Konami's thunderous usual. In fact it's quite poor, prefiguring badly-compressed N64/GBA carts. I wonder what the tech situation was? Graphics look ambitious. Also, most rips kick off with unpleasant tyre squeal SFX. But! It's A Hard Way In The Sububs reels off the most delightful piano solos over an effortlessly breezy machinegun groove!

Happily, lots of JP arrangers know this too, and theirs sound BALLS AMAZIN Image Image

> Arranged by kenshiro @ Game Music Channel (just immaculate! super rad dude btw!)
> Arranged by CHABIN (from FMPSG002 -Legendary Sounds-) (nice chunky FM sound!)
> Original Sound Version (headphones warning for intro)

TOP GUN THE 2ND MISSION = MISSION 2 BGM, cover by the estimable McQueen8601. Fuuuuck yes. Image That wildly careening yet piston-precise sound! Image The low growl of the guitar that kicks off each verse is so cool! The same leads erupting forth in controlled spiralling furies! I think I've posted this before, IDGAF THOUGH (`w´メ) this some BIGDICKENING ACTION BGM Image

Image

Customarily badass overseas boxart by Mr. Tom Dubois. Is that even the right game? I dunno, never played 'em tbh. Ultra-apropos this BGM, though! The sweeping scope, the dizzying perspective, the visceral sense of momentum. Check out the wakes of those battleships hauling ass! Shmuppin' as fuck. Image

I've never been a Sonic guy, but I've started putting on the Sonic 3 soundtrack every morning while I do my usual news+online fuckery cycle. It might be a red flag.

Heart Of Hearts <3

Man I gotta say, I don't know why it took me so long, especially after 1LCing the game several years back. Genpei Toumaden must have one of the greatest bang/buck yields of any OST. Fierily relentless, floridly varied, deftly compact. This father/daughter duo's rendition (give 'em a sub!) was my soundtrack for tonight's email drudgery, and ho ho hoooly balls, it made it fly past on loop. Recurring midboss Yoshitsune's strutting headbanger BGM a highlight as always, but the whole thing's killer. Just missing the bonus stage BGM; a harsh omission, but honestly, that this OST remains so strong despite missing a standout just makes me like it more.

(Yoshi's fan-favourite BGM forming an appropriately Fuji-esque vista )

Mayne I don't wanna jinx this week's ACA release, but I can't contain myself and I don't do superstition either. :o So fuck it. Bamco just put Rave Racer's OST on Spotify and probably elsewhere and ho ho hoooly fuck it's sounding good.

Image (ta bud!)

All glorious SAMPLINGMASTERISMS in place! PASS DI BLUNT WHEN YUH PASS UP THE BONG, YAH Ranking face-melter KAMIKAZE all present and correct, I could cry mayne. Don't leave me baybehh~ And Rare Hero 3, breezy n' cute as a button as always. 3! 3! 3 3 3! I always thought Yominori Hey and Teknopera were the weakest links by far, with their goofy gimmick hooks, but all the same, glad to see 'em here for posterity. Annoys me that both have some pretty rad bridges, oh well. Maybe better at the controls?

Good omen hopefully. I ain't superstitious. MEGA and AYA and SANODG et al were some talented cheeky buggers! Patrician sickgrab sense.

Pet theory of mine that ACA Ridge Racer 2 has been held back since it's a bit too similar to the original, and could hamstring the new 3D lineup's momentum. I do hope it appears though; could really use that rear-view mirror, plus after putting lots of time on ACA RR1, I'm curious to see how its handling model differs... and it's got some muhfuckin tunes, too. DRIVE U 2 DANCING is the ultimate RR soundtrack opener imho. The new engine roar sound is killer, too. I was pleasantly surprised to see ACA RR1's OST make it home fully intact, will keep my fingers crossed non-superstitiously for this one as well.

EDIT: OMFG  Ridge Racer 2's up as well, and Rage Racer! I'd always assumed the latter had run into licensing issues, it's so criminally absent from later games and albums. VOLCANO VEHICLE all present and correct. What a nice surprise this all was. :o

I need more insanely baller Genesis music just like this. This has got to be a top 5 song on the console for me. Incredible.
